Celebration just opened a new bookstore downtown (right by Seito) and to my surprise they had a huge selection of Disney books (more so than Virgin Megastore or anywhere else on property I believe).

Not only that, they had a few rare items. Any of you remember that hardcover Epcot photo book?* They have it. Remember the Animal Kingdom softcover preview book put out by Hyperion?** They have it.

Pretty interesting.

It just opened two days ago. Check it out.

(About a 15 minute drive from Magic Kingdom -- and yes, its all on Disney Property).

My Epcot Book says "Epcot Center", not just "Epcot" Any clue which was first?

I am pretty sure that the original version had about 100 + pages where the later version have around 250 pages. I have the later version which does not have the EPCOT Center logo on the cover but has the additional pages.

It's interesting... There were two publishings of the book, one before and one after the park opened, though both were named "Walt Disney's EPCOT Center" as far as I knew. The only way to tell them apart were the number of pages - the second having more content and photos.

So, this can either be a 3rd version of the book (it's very popular in resale, so maybe Disnbey dusted it off and started reselling it again? Thus now its just Epcot) or, since I know I own the second version, just "Epcot" is the first version.

I guess I have version two then (239 pages, pictures from the park while it's open). Ebay is great to find books like this. I also got "Since the World Began" on Ebay for like $20. Look for "Disneyland: Inside Story" too. I actually just had that one in the house for some reason but it's out of print and highly sought after now.

It has 239 numbered pages and says copyright 1982-but no opening day photos.

I`ll throw a spanner in the works; apparently there were 3 versions of the EPCOT book. The ISBN of mine is 0 8109 0819 0 1st ed - lots of concept art, what look like pre opening CM test day photos, no opening day images. Strangely, it`s the same cover as shown above, but again with `Center` in gold below EPCOT.

Where to start....

I just got "Designing Disney, Imagineering and the Art of the Show" and the new version of "Disney A-Z". I am new to finding books on imagineering and the history of Disney. Are these two good books to start with in my new found reading interest? Do you have any other suggestions?

Thanks!

Jose,

I live in Windermere, the next town over is Ocoee and there's a used book store with a lot of vintage Disney reading :)

I hate to brag...but okay I will

I collect Disney 'stuff' from the 20th century only. This includes video, books, and other park collectibles. I have over 400 books published in the 20th century the majority about the Disney company and Walt himself. I also have all of the young adult novels they published in the 60s, 70s, 80s that were based on the movies...you know, where it says 'now a major motion picture from Walt Disney Productions'. I think I'm only missing like less than 10 books.
