A new Baby Elephant was Born at Disney's Animal Kingdom was born last night per the Disney Parks Blog

I’m thrilled to share with you the fantastic news that we have a new baby elephant at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Our 22-year-old elephant Donna gave birth to a 288-pound female calf late last night after a 22-month gestation. Right now, baby and mom are in their backstage home, but in several weeks we expect them to join the rest of the elephant herd on the Kilimanjaro Safaris.

The new baby (no name yet!) is the second calf for Donna, who gave birth to a female calf, Nadirah, in 2005. This birth raises the number of elephants in the Disney’s Animal Kingdom herd to thirteen, including five males and eight females.

Disney elephants are so lucky they get to live at Disney World. I wish all elephants lived in Disney World!! :sohappy::sohappy:

Not old, just vintage.
I'm so glad I am not an elephant. I don't think I could handle being pregnant for almost 2 years and then giving birth to an almost 300 pound baby. Baby elephants sure are cute though.

I think it important to note that breeding African Elephants in capitivity is extremely difficult and that Disney's Animal Kingdom is a leader in research on African Elephant reproduction. I believe only 11 African elephants have been born in capitivity in the last 10 years and 5 of those were born at Disney's Animal Kingdom.

Great news! Looks like lots of babies at AK this year. I know we had the baby gorilla back in February (?) and was the baby rhino this year or last?
