See the things next to Goofy and Donald with the arches? That's what I was talking about.

@WDW Vacationer,

I don't see anything... But I think I know what you're talking about. Is it those things in which Mickey and Minnie rise at the end of the show? The pillars? Well, as I said I think they should use hydraulics to automatically hide the props(pillars, arches, etc.) under the stage once the show ends, and when it starts they could automatically rise up.

Thanks for the news, Drew!

For those wondering whether the 40th itself has been confirmed, it sort of has (emphasis on sort of). Jason Surrell, in an article discussing new Fantasyland in D23, wrote that it'd be ready for the tail end of the 40th Anniversary Celebration. There are mentionings of this in a few threads on the Fantasyland expansion thread, but I'm really surprised that it hasn't received its own thread in News and Rumors. Especially given that not everyone heads onto that subforum (I know I hadn't in months before heading there last night).

It's amazing how ever since 2008 I've been hoping for a 40th, and now it's about to happen, same with the FYL Expansion! I've waited really long for this! Especially for something the crap that's currently parading down Main Street.

A new show is always welcome!

I hope they get rid of those raised stage things.:hurl:

Agreed in full. I hate the current stage. Has the Gold Arches from HCOE, the Tents, ugh. Clutter. At least give us Tokyo's, where it looks like an extension of the Castle.

And has pyro.

And shoots water.

And has Vapor screens.

And catches FULLY on fire.

:D

Their stage is amazing.

But I think it looks ugly.

I disagree with those stating that the performance of stage shows in front of the Castle should be eliminated. While I agree that the aesthetics are in need of a serious improvement on the stage and that the quality of the current show is less than stellar, the show seems quite popular (at least whenever I've passed it). Just because you're not of the age that enjoys character interactions doesn't mean the stage shows are bad. Sure aesthetics are nice, but Walt Disney World would not exist if it were just a beautifully manicured park with plenty of nice trees, beautiful architecture, and nice details. Great substantive content, more than anything else, keeps people coming, and keeps people coming back. Replacing a stage show with trees and landscaping is a step in the wrong direction, in my opinion.

Replacing the current show with a better show and a better stage, however, is a step in the right direction.

Threadwin, IMO.

I disagree in this situation. The castle show creates another crowd in the hub that unnecessary, while simultaneously taking away from the great look of the castle.

I like DAWM, but it just really detracts more than it adds IMO.

I think the first point is a little untenable. In present day WDW, there are crowds everywhere. Even still, you can navigate the hub just as easily as you can anywhere else (and I've done so in the busier seasons) during these performances.

The second point is a matter of opinion. Like I said before, I think the current stage does look like crap and should be more seamlessly integrated. If its look were improved, it would only be a slight detraction from the Castle (I'll even concede that it would detract from the Castle). The detraction doesn't outweigh the substantive addition of a good stage show. I'm betting I might be in the minority on this here, but among 'real world' guests, I'll bet I'm in the majority. I'll accept slightly less from the Castle's aesthetics if it means a substantive addition in the form of a stage show.

Wouldn't mind keeping stage shows IF they found a way to have the performers enter from below the stage or some other way that would allow the castle's main passage to be open most of the day rather than closed.

It's darker. That's about it.

Unless you think our Castle is ugly too...We have the same one!

Same thing.

Save for the ugly stage in front of ours.
Based on those two pictures I think our stage is much nicer.

There is something about having a show in front of the castle that to me is a no-brainer. I just spent this past year living on the west coast in Anaheim and one of the things that I missed the most was having a major show in front of the castle. It gives it something of extra interest and really adds to the atmosphere IMHO. It's hard for me to imagine the Magic Kingdom with out that show. Even though I don't always stop and watch the show I'm always glad its there and it's a nice way to incorporate the Disney characters in a thematically appropriate setting. To me having a show in front of the castle is "Disney", not to mention I'm in love with DAWM.
