I got attacked pretty bad after about 3 months of being on here. Cautious of which boards I post to because of it.

I'm sorry. I guess like I say, I've learned to pick the battles I stay in as I've gotten older and in general I don't give a flip what perfect strangers think of me and my opinion too much because I think so highly of my bs myself probably.
I remember when this happened to Hatter. I knew right away he had screwed up....my mind doesn't wander into the perv gutter like a lot of people's do and I am not going to criticize them for going to that extreme because you never know who and how someone might have been violated. But I couldn't get on the tar and feather bandwagon. Honestly I was disappointed the mods didn't shut it down faster. I had to give Hatter the benefit of the doubt and take his word for it that he was joking no intention to offend or violate and anyways I really dislike rabid mob tirades anyways...this one got so vicious so fast....I just really felt the emotion so I stayed away.
And yes I am female...I am a statistic...I have children and grandchildren, not like I want to live next door to registered sex offenders and cut them slack but neither did I nor would I classify Hatter in such a manner over a judgment lapse.

I never saw "said" posting but if it was, as some are portraying it, then I would agree with you. It should have been shut down. Any posts I ever saw by Hatter were interesting and funny (mostly to do with dining :hungry:) I'm sure I miss a lot that goes on here. By the sounds of it, that's not a bad thing.

I was taking a break from WDWMagic when the big flame war went down. I certainly am not perfect and when thinking about it & reflecting on some of my past behavior - I'd be a hypocrite if I joined in the witch hunt with this matter. We're all human and sometimes we make questionable choices. I'm not going to elaborate as it's just not necessary, but I swear...sometimes it's ridiculous how some people feel the need to join into mob mentality and vilify a person.

This site has a number of doom and gloomers... I have shared in some of the doom and gloom as I do miss many things from the 80s and 90s, but there are positive things in the present and future where WDW is concerned. While it clearly grated on the nerves of some of the doom and gloomers, Hatter's sunny attitude always helped me look at the positives for WDW in the present and future. You always hear that negativity is contagious...well Hatter's optimism and enthusiasm were equally contagious. I just think it's really unfortunate that it's all come down to this.

I could ramble on, but there's just no point.

Ok, I am going to chime in here and say a few things. Some of you noted that you didn't see what was posted. I did....I was there. This may be one of those times where I think you had to be there. I agree Hatter was a person who had a positive outlook on WDW....nothing wrong with that. This site could use some of that from time to time. I have to disagree with the mob mentality thing. He made a statement about committing a crime. When called out on it he backed off. Said it was a joke. The problem is that people are EXTREMELY sensitive about the crime he was "joking" about. When he made the "joke" he was very cavalier in the manner in how he said it. This is what rubbed people raw. He absolutely should have been called out on the rug for it. We all say dumb things time to time, but what he said crossed the line of just a "dumb thing" When you say something like that and it is out there it is very difficult to just take it back. Its there in print, for all to see. Sometimes when you make such a mistake there is a price to pay. In general we as a community can forgive many mistakes but molesting a minor is one mistake we just don't tolerate. I don't think chastising those who called him out as just being a doom and gloomer. This isn't about projecting our own morals or values on anyone it is about right and wrong. This time Hatter was wrong and he has paid a hefty price for it. When he said he was "joking".....sorry I am not giving him the benefit of doubt. 1) I don't know him, how do I know he isn't a pedophile? just because he post sunny thoughts on a Disney chat forum? 2) You simply don't kid or joke about such things.....period!

Thank you for posting this - and I really don't want to beat a dead horse here, but I just want to add that things were said in private messages that should and will be kept private. And for the record, Hatter did return here with a new identity and chose to brag about that too. Time to move on....

Umm...Isn't this supposed to be a site dedicated to talking about Disney World?

Back on topic...I'd NEVER stay at the Contemporary ever again! They've let that thing go! I mean there's a huge hole in the side of the building, big enough for a giant train to drive through for crying out loud! Someone should fix that ting before someone gets seriously injured! ;)

Back to the Contemporary again. I mean it's soooooo far away from the MK. I have to get all out of bed...walk down the hall...take an elevator...walk to the monorail station...get on...ride for like three stops...takes like 10 whole minutes...then I gotta get off the darn thing...walk down the ramp...then get this...gotta walk UP a slight grade AGAIN after I just walked down...and I'm not even in the gate yet! Seriously, Disney really needs to make this experience more convenient if they want to continue labeling the Contemporary a "Deluxe Resort"!;)

I'm going to continue bashing that old Contemporary Resort. It's way too close to the MK. I can hear those pesky fireworks every night, keeping me up. And if I go out onto my balcony to complain? Well, if there's a slight gust of wind, one of those things cold put an eye out! OH, and then I have to look out at all of that traffic every night! Bus fumes...kids crying...head lights...I have to look at all of that and listen to all of that from my balcony every night! Jeeesh! Great googly-moogly...:banghead:

I too missed the original thread that was at issue. I also am not sure how it happened, since I was on around the time - I think. ;) I saw something alluding to it in some other post and saw his goodbye post.

I also had no idea until nemo14 post that he had come back. I guess I do not spend as much time here as I think I do. :D

Our first time at POR was not good at all & I vowed to never go back again. Bus problems, luggage problems, housekeeping issues plagued us every step of that trip. However, with a family of 5 it is our cheapest option at WDW. That being said, we booked again the next year with fingers crossed, and it was fantastic they really won us over the second time there. We now consider it our Disney home!

So true! We are all guilty of lots of things. No need to judge one another.

Hey, as I get older I realilze that every time I point a finger at someone - darned if there isn't 3 more of them pointing back at ME !!! That being said - I walk through life with the attitude that "your expression of personal freedom ends...where my body space begins !!! ". and that goes for 'stroller-rammers' too. Also as the song says "don't give me no lies - and keep your hands to Yourself".

He does have a point but i am cleanly dressed mind my P's and Q's but would still feel wrong there. Its not a reflection of how i act or what my manners are its just that is not for me.

Heck - not me !! just like on a cruise ship - Give me my warmed slippers, my towel elephant, my resort bathrobe, and the mints on my turned down pillow. Sorry - I guess I am a bit of a princess. But I toil like a sweaty serf when at my job at the Hospital Lab... 'save those lives - stamp out diseases' !!

Hahaha, but truth be told, the Contemporary has the highest parking lot view rooms ever. I'd never stay on that side of the Tower, if I was a paying customer.
