Needed!!! Any and All Info You can Give me on The Polynesian Resort!!!

Crush Dude!

Back from WDW!Counting down to DLP in November!
Hi folks just about a week since i returned from 3 weeks at the world and this has been my 1st chance to post! Il try put together a report tonight but 1st im looking for all available info on the Polynesian Resort!!
On our trip we ate at the Grand Floridian 1 night and afterwards it was too late to hit the parks so we headed to the Polynesian and watched Wishes from the beach panned out on a sun lounger and we instantly fell in love with the resort! A week later we ate at Ohana for breakfast and loved it, the juice and bread are gorgeous :slurp: We then explored the resort and it is an amazing place with a great feel to it so we decided we were gonna stay there for 3 to 4 weeks on our next visit to the world.
I Have a few questions for Poly veterans out there;

What are the rooms like?
How is Ohana for dinner?
How is the kona cafe??
Is it worth it to book a mk view room?? (i like the idea of opening my room door onto the beach:lol:) Or would i be just as well off with a cheaper room??
Any opinions on the ohana dinner show??
Wanted to try it this year but it just could not be fitted in!

Im sure ive more questions but i cant think of them, any info or info sources would be great as would your opinions of the Poly from past vacations there
Thanx in advance and i look forward to hearing from you all :sohappy::wave:

Kona is one of my favorite places to eat on property. While I have only had dinner there, I hear they have a great breakfast menu also. My family stayed at the Polynesian 2 years ago. My mother requested the Tahiti longhouse when she made reservations. The rooms were really nice and very big. While we only had a garden view, it was a short walk to the beach. The Tahiti longhouse is farther away from the Great Ceremonial House, but we were a very short walk to the Ticket and Transportation Center, which was fine for our family. We loved staying there. The resort decorations and scenery are stunning.

I took a one month old there for a weekend stay and it was great. I had room for the pack and play, there was a chair i could sit and feed him his bottle. Had plenty of room for him, two others, and myself. we loved the food at the quick service counter downstairs too. we never ate at the other places in the resort so i can't give you an opinion on that, but we would hop on the monerail and eat at the other resorts as well. our room was in the building right next to the lobby and we had the monerail passing by all the time, it was fun to sit and watch, we even had bunnies outside our patio. I have to say it was my favorite deluxe hotel. just the feel of the resort was magical.

I stayed at the Poly with my brother and his girls a couple months ago. For transportation convenience I think Poly is a close 2nd to the Contemporary. The ambiance is wonderful at Poly. Very relaxing. My brother booked a garden view since it was cheapest and we made specific requests for the room. We ended up 1st floor in Tokelau which was awesome. We were situated close enough to the Great Ceremonial House to not feel like we were in the boonies, wasn't a horrible hike over to the TTC when catching the monorail to/from Epcot, a hop-skip-n-jump to the bus stop (& laundry room), right by the quiet pool, had Sunset Point right outside the door for watching the fireworks, and it was a newer building so all floors had balconies (just in case we didn't get our ground floor request). I thought we had a great location. The rooms at Poly & the Contemporary are bigger than most of the standard deluxe resort rooms because these were the 1st two resorts built at WDW. The modular-type pre-fab designed rooms were spacious. I'm not sure if the newer buildings at Poly have smaller rooms but it's possible. I know I read this on the Tikiman's page. I highly, hiiiighly recommend studying the Tikiman's site. That place rocks! It's awesome arriving with some knowledge of the resort's history.

Then there's Kona Cafe. Oh myyyyyy...how I loooooove me some Kona Cafe for breakfast. It's by far my favorite breakfast in all of WDW. The only drawback is trying to decide between the tonga toast and the pineapple macadamia pancakes. :slurp: Also, the Kona coffee bar is a Godsend in the mornings when I don't have time to sit and drink a cup of coffee. Fellow guests all over WDW are grateful for the Kona coffee bar. I'm not a pleasant human being before coffee. :goodnevil

Ohana's dinner is pretty good. I don't think it's quite as good as it used to be before the various menu tweeks but they still have the heavenly bread pudding desert stuff so I'm still okay with eatting here. :slurp:

Anywhoo, the Poly rocks! Study the Tikiman's site and have fun. I loved it!

It is one of the deluxe resorts, so has the highest cost. You can reduce this some by travelling off season when discount packages are offered. Current rack rate from the Disney site is:

$355-500 for standard room and discounts for certain times can be about 30% when available.

O'hana is good, it is a buffet with some fun interactions (mostly for the children) so it can be a little noisy. Very noisy when the characters visit for breakfast.

Kona has a surprisingly nice menu for an ordinary looking restaurant. Has some special Poly only items.

As you can see above, there is quite a price difference for "view". Guess it comes down to how much time you spend in the room and how important that is to you.

Spirit of Aloha is a nice dinner show. My favorite however is Hoop de do Review that is IMHO a far more entertaining evening.

We have never stayed at the Poly but we do make a point of stopping there on our trips to dine. We have enjoyed meals at O'Hana character breakfast, O'hana dinner, and the Spirit of Aloha show. By and far the dinner at O'hana is one of our favorites at the kingdom! It is served "family" style, just as is the morning character breakfast. They have several courses and bring them in serving dishes for the family to share. When we were there in Dec 2008 for dinner we actually had two wait staff for our dinner meal. When it comes time for the main course the meat selections are brought out on long skewers directly from the fire pit in the middle of the room. It is a great meal. We have to miss it in Sept due to it being completely booked:(.

We did the Spirit of Aloha show in Dec 2005 and it was also a wonderful "family" style meal with a dinner show. You start with salad and the fresh pineapple, then the meal is chicken and ribs, rice, veggies, with a 'molten" chocolate desert. You don't want for anything at either O'hanas or the Spirit of Aloha show, if your platter is empty or cup empty it is filled again. I couldn't eat the desert so they brought me out more pineapple - about a 1/4 of a whole pineapple. The show was wonderful, a bit corney at times but that is how it is supposed to be. The dancers are very, very skilled in their dance and represent their cultural dances very, very well.

Some day I am going to convince DH that we are going to stay at the Poly.

POLY is amazing. Kona has an absolutley fantastic breakfast and dinner at Ohana is great too.

The rooms are huge and beautiful. We had a garden view. We ended up in Fiji overloking the marina. My kids loved being able to look at the boats. We could also see CR from our room.

Our only complaint was that the buses were the worst we had ever experienced. They seemed to never come. We waited at DTD for close to an hour on a Saturday evening. And getting to/from DHS wasn't much better. However monorail transportation for MK and EPCOT is very nice.

We stayed here in March 2007 when I was pregnant with our first son. We thought this would be a good choice for us since we were there for both our 7th anniversary and our "babymoon". It was very relaxing! We stayed in Tuvalu with the MK view. We knew since I was pregnant that we'd be spending a lot of time in our room and we sure did! It was nice to come back every night and sit on our balcony and have a view of the water, castle, fireworks and water parade. Sooooo relaxing! We only went to the pool one day and it was quite crowded, so didn't go back. Pool was smaller than we thought it would be too. We didn't care for the counter service food there either. It got old quick when there wasn't much to choose from. A lot of times if we were going to eat something like that, we'd go to the Contemporary counter service and eat there before going back to the resort. We love rooms that drop right off to the water, so it was perfect for us. Wouldn't hesitate to go back! You will have a very relaxing time! The Luau was nice too. We didn't do this on this trip, but did it a few years before. Very good food and a nice show to get you into the polynesian mood. Never had any transportation issues. When we first checked in, they gave us a smoking room, so we went back to the front desk and the cm seemed absolutely clueless that that was a smoking room. They moved us to a different room but only to have someone smoke on their balcony right beside us the whole trip. So, being non-smokers and also pregnant, that was our biggest issue. There were lots that we didn't do that wish we would've, but someday we'll get to do them all! Our son kicked for the first time as we were leaving our room the first day, so that's a memory we'll always have there.
