Background:

Me, 33, going solo for 6 nights/7 days March 30 to April 5.

I originally planned to stay at AKL Villas in a studio. However, when I went to book, while on hold, it got booked. So, I bit the bullet and booked my dream resort, the Poly.

However, the website is now showing availability for the AKLV studio that I originally wanted.

While the Poly is my dream resort, the AKLV studio would save me $600, and it is also a resort I would love to stay at some day.

Pros of Poly:
Monorail
Dream resort
Wishes and Electrical Pagent from beach
Beach
Hammocks (love to be lazy and read)

Pros of AKL:
Dedicated buses
Savannah view
Studio

What would you do? (Please add reasoning too!)

For me it would have to be the Poly. I think AKL is too out of the way. With the Poly, you are in the middle of everything! These are the things that make the difference between having a nice vacation or a GREAT one!

Poly, hands down. Reason: Poly was my dream resort, too. We essentially did the comparison you're doing, ony we substituted WL for AKL. And we bit the bullet and paid dearly to stay at the Poly. (although we lucked out and got a good discount applied to our package, which helped) Now that we've stayed at the Poly, we'll never stay anywhere else. If you're in a longhouse near the TTC (we were, in Tahiti), you will have "dedicated" buses to MGM and AK, too, b/c those buses are a closer walk than the Poly buses, which share with the Contemp and GF. And walking to the TTC monorails for MK and Epcot is so fast and easy. Definitely stay at the Poly!!!

I was under the impression that park buses didn't run from the TTC anymore, and that at the Poly you had to use the main depot outside of the GCH. Can someone explain the TTC to me then?

Yes, I did request Tahiti!

You are going to get a lot of people telling you how great the Polynesian Resort is.

Follow your heart and not your head.
Where do you really want to stay?

Sounds like a win/win dilemma.

If the Poly is your dream resort then I say go for it. The fact that you actually booked it suggests that you can afford it and I bet it didn't take you too long for you to make up your mind!

When we were deciding what to do for our honeymoon it was a choice between AKL, WL and the Poly. In then end we decided to split the trip up into 6nights at the AKL and 5 at WL. We really want to go to the Poly but we just couldn't afford the extra cost of the resort instead of one of the others and I didn't fancy having to change hotels 3 times during the trip.

Maybe you could split your stay between the two resorts? You will save a bit of money and get to go to both your dream hotels. I hear that Disney are very good at helping you move from one hotel to the next - I'm sure someone else can give you details

There are buses from the TTC to the Studios and Animal Kingdom. The other parks are covered by the monorails. The only service that was ever stopped from the TTC was the bus to DTD due to people trying to cheat the parking system.

About your situation...The biggest thing you need to ask yourself is "Does the Extra money make it worthwhile?" Can you go to the Polynesian and comfortably afford it, or will the extra 600 dollars from staying at AKL be better for you? If you can go with the Polynesian and not miss the extra 600 dollars then I would say do it. If it is your dream to stay there then I would recommend doing it.

I just love the Poly. I love feeling like I'm at the Magic Kingdom even when I'm in my bed sleeping, and I love having Epcot be just a short walk and a monorail ride away. I don't think I have any desire to stay at AKL just because it's not in the middle of all the action.

I personally would goto the AKL, just because of the price savings. I was planning on staying at the Poly but I got a good deal at the WL. So that is where i shall be my home away from home.

If it were me, I'd stick with the Poly if given the choice between the two. For one, I think I like the theming better.

Number two, the monorail, beach and close proximity to Epcot and MK make it more desirable, IMO.

I've tinkered with the idea of doing a split stay, but for 6 nights, it does not seem worth it. For example, on Day 1, my flight does not arrive in Orlando until 7 pm (check-in around 8 pm). On the last day, my flight leaves at 7:45 am (ME to airport around 5 am) So, "technically", I have 5 days to spend at the parks and resort.
