NBA Experience at Disney Springs

I'm glad that NBA city is good as gone. We have watched games there and it was such a ripoff we ended up taking out their souvenir glasses to make up for the exaggerated cost. The food is nastified as well. However, it would've been better for Disney to build a NFL one or even a soccer one.

Sticking to one sport is a mistake imo. Despite them playing all sports inside the marquee will say NBA and people will only think NBA is playing there. Expanding ESPN to Disney springs would have been a bigger win here.

However, if it's going there, it's a pretty awkward location for NBA's sake. I mean, DQ is at the complete end of the West side, right next to HOB and Cirque, so it's not necessarily in a location where people are going to be constantly passing it.

Well, NBA doubling down on a concept that's been a loser for a decade now, so not exactly up on their due diligence.

Also, isn't the rumor that Cirque parking lot will be developed next after new garage? I've heard rumors of a new nightlife district, so if this can survive 5 years, not a bad location for a sports bar.

why would Disney care if it is a losing bet or not? they arent managing it, they arent staffing it, they arent owning it... they just rent a space to them, and can evict them for non-payment at any time...

In my opinion, the reason NBA City wasn't nearly as popular as it could have been is the lack of player appearances. There's a team just up the road and I only saw Magic players there once (grand opening).

The former NFL players club (Pointe Orlando), NASCAR Cafe and even the ESPN club (Boardwalk) used to regularly bring in athletes and broacasting personalities which would pack the restaurant and make people forget about the over-priced, mediocre bar food.

In my opinion, a bunch of indoor basketball hoops (I mean, with basketball, what else can they really do? The clubhouse laundry experience?) and tv's showing that night's game aren't going to get people to come out; it didn't work with UO and I doubt it will work w/ WDW. But a former player giving pointers to kids on those courts of giving some live commentary on those games? Sign me up.

I just hope one of the interactive activities is going to be an "NBA player simulator" where I can see what I'd look like covered head to toe in tattoos.

Interesting about the nightlife rumors. I haven't heard anything, but would love to hear that it's in the future plans.

Kareem Abdul-Jabar was there during All Star Weekend a few years back. He was .... he was rather stange managed.

Yeah, but I'm assuming the NBA would be willing to pick up the tab of renevating the space where theyre going.

Disney's economic model has always been to make someone else pay for it.

I think it could be well done, if they do what needs to be done.. as has been said, the NBA is huge in Europe and Asia, and there are almost as many foreign players drafted as college players (and colleges are recruiting overseas as well, and not just Canada. Fab Mello from Brazil played for Syracuse, for example), so there is draw. Probably more international draw than MLB or NFL. The gift shop should have gear from all teams, and maybe even the NBADL teams.. Player appearances would be key.. the Magic would be easy, but it shouldn't be too hard to get players from visiting teams (assuming travel time accommodates it), especially if they throw in park ticket packages

I have never been to DQ, so I don't know the size, but is it big enough to have a court inside? if so, they could perhaps work pre-season activities/games

Yep. I think ESPNZone would have happened but one exists at boardwalk. This is a great alternative to that in my opinion.

It amazes me that people still fail to grasp the DS concept but once completed it will make sense.
I'm sure they'll harken a backstory involving Dr. James Naismith and peach baskets for your entertainment....

Not that you'll ever see it, of course.

Someday you will have that v8 moment when DS makes sense to you.

Although I do admit I still don't quite get the backstory for Citywalk.

Unlike you, when actually seeing DS the backstory is the least of my interests....

Thankfully, CW has never felt the need for one.

Back story - What is the back story on all the clothing stores, micro car sells, possible Apple store, etc. This is a shopping mall. I would even love to see a specialty market come in and sell basic food products.
