Anyone calling which lap the big one's going to happen? If practice is any indication, we know it's just a matter of time before someone gets loose. I'm saying 124. (And again I'm just pulling that out of the air. :))

I'm still wondering what happened to the # 48's tire? Did you all see the long strings of shaved rubber from the tire, that Jimmy showed to the sports reporter?! Wow. Never saw that happen to a tire before--bizarre.

Something about special tires just for this race. I missed the official explanation from the Goodyear representative.

Goodyear said the #48 only did right side tires on the first pit stop. The left side tire had a lot of laps on it and the tread just disintegrated.

A lot of crew chiefs were talking about "corded" tires after a regular pit stop.

Just read on twitter that the caution was caused by an electrical malfunction. The malfunction turned on the yellow lights, but the flag man didn't signal yellow. Nascar decided to make it a legit caution to figure out what happened to the caution light system and then it started raining.

Did the rain happen then the caution, or did the caution happen then it started raining?
Good question! How did half the caution lights come on by themselves and the others had to immediately be turned on by the officials? (cue Twilight Zone music) I'm glad they called out the checkered flag. A restart in that rain would not have been good.

Human error, some twit hit the switch by accident, my guess is they are now looking for a new job

I heard Robin Pemberton on Sirius post race show. He said one of the flag men leaned on the override switch.

I just read on Fox Sports (online) an interesting description of the manual override switch, and the error by one of the flag men, (who accidentally leaned against the switch), and turned the caution lights on. They then tried to turn the caution lights off, but realized the override switch was still turned on--hung on caution. I'll bet they won't let that happen again! ;)

In the last few years, California has gone from one of the dullest races to one of the best. Drivers said the old pavement has led to better racing.

Matt Kenseth captured the pole yesterday for the Auto Club 400. I wonder how Jimmy Johnson will do in the big race; the #48 has won 5 times in Fontana. Jimmy's from California and I think he really likes racing in front of the home-town people! (Oh by the way, Brad Keselowski was 2nd on the pole, and Jimmy was 3rd.) Should be an interesting race. Reminds me--I've gotta get my snacks at the grocery store. Can't watch the race without my treats! :)
