Chronicles of Narnia has already made over $265 million since its opening on Dec. 9th (just in the US alone)! Does its sucess make it one of the greatest Disney movies of all-time?

Definately one of the best. Not THE best though. The best will always remain to be Mary Poppins. But it definately is way up there.

According to my 14 year old daughter, it is the best. She's seen it 3 times and would go again, if I'd let her. No wonder it's made so much money.

If you are talking in terms of money made, it is currently 29th on the all-time box office list. Finding Nemo is the highest ranking Disney released picture, coming in at 13th with $339,714,978. I did just see The Chronicles of Narnia today, and it is a wonderful movie. The CG lion Aslan was really wonderfully done, as well as all the other animals and mythical characters. And the youngest girl is adorable!

I wouldn't say one of Disney's greatest...it was very good, but no where near as good as the books...but what movie ever is?

Great movie? Yes it is wonderful. Disney movie? I would not classify it as a Disney movie. There only connection to the movies is distibution.

It was deffinetly one of my all-time favorite Disney movies. I can't wait till Prince Caspian comes out Christmas '07. Does anyone know how long the the movie set will be up at the Studios?

I enjoyed Narnia emmensely and still do. It's a very well made film and let's you escape to a dreamlike fantasy world. The stunning visuals and seeing the fantastic mythical creatures like never before is awesome!

However...for some reason i don't really see this as being classified as a "Disney" movie. It's hard to explain...even though it was released by Disney i see them as only being a distributor and not having much imput into the final effort. It doe'sn have that "feel" to me as say "Mary Poppins" or even "Pete's Dragon".

"Narnia" IS wonderful...i love it...but i can't bring myself to see it as a Disney film.

I have heard it will be replaced by a Pirates set...so it may be open until sometime in May...depends on if they want the Pirates exhibit opened before or after the movie comes out in early July. It supposedly will involve an entire ship from the movie that you can walk through--sounds pretty awesome to me.

Interesting that they are doing Prince Caspian next and not the Horse and His Boy. I wonder if they intend on making the films the way Lewis released the books.

I would not even rate it as one of Disney's "good" movies, let alone greatest. Perhaps I'm alone in this, but I found the movie dull and uninspired. It all felt like I'd seen it before in Lord of the Rings...and the much better BBC versions of the Chronicles of Narnia. Yes, the effects were good, yes the acting was fine, and yes overall the film was okay, but that's really all it was for me. I walked out of the theater feeling like I'd kind of wasted those two hours because it was all just uninspired retreading of familiar grounds.
Just because a movie is financially popular does not make it a great movie. Fantasia was a financial flop, as were Pinocchio and Alice in Wonderland when they were first released. I would argue all three of them make Narnia look like a home video. In fact, I would argue EVERY Disney animated film blows this film away, including Atlantis, Home on the Range, and Treasure Planet.
Actually, the more I think on it, the more I realize why those films are all better than Narnia - heart. I didn't feel anything for any of the characters. The whole thing was cold and unfeeling, though the child who played Lucy almost managed to save it.
Don't get me wrong - I wanted to like this movie. I taped all the making of specials as I have done for every other Disney movie, and I was there opening night, eagerly hoping to have a new film to add to my DVD collection in 6-10 months. However, I have no intention of buying this now when it does come out. If anything, I may buy the BBC version instead...or just watch Lord of the Rings again and save myself some money.

I believe Prince Capsian was the second book Lewis wrote. They are trying to release the movies in the order he wrote them, instead of chronologically.
