Myths and Urban Legends, True or False

All the spires on Sleeping Beauty Castle are 22 karat gold, except one. The story, or myth is one is purposely not gold in order to celebrate and acknowledge one of Walt's statements about Disneyland: "Disneyland will never be completed. It will continue to grow, as long as there is imagination left in the world."

Pretty sure that's false. There are also a couple of stories as to why SBC isn't taller.

That there was a body with screaming sound effects in the spiderweb of the original spider room on HM. Taken down very quickly after original opening. Hidden under the tracks somewhere and used by CMs to scare newcomers. Probably just a myth. But even so, it would have been cleaned out after the recent refurbs. Guess we'll never know.

I had always heard its just on backwards, either for the same reason you gave or in error during construction but that "Walt said it was perfect" and didnt notice so it stayed as it was"

Dole Whips actually contain trace amounts of crack cocaine

hmm brings an interesting idea. I heard this myth that goes back as far as 10:30 tonight (eastern time) 3/30/13 that said when police were testing currency and found virtually all united states dollars in circulation had trace amounts of cocaine (true btw) it was discovered that Disney dollars had nearly twice as much when tested. apparently it wasn't all pixie dust in Disney......

You're thinking of another story, which is true. The top of SBC was turned around as a joke, but Walt ended up liking it and thought it looked better turned around, so it was kept that way. He did notice it.

This is the back of SBC. The top should be faced the other way.

Another Disneyland one, in the 1950s the City of Anaheim had restrictive heigh limits for construction except sports facilities, so a basketball court was included inside of the Matterhorn in order for it to be classified as a sports facility so that it could be taller. False, no such regulations existed and the single basketball hoop was added later by a mountain climber to help pass the time during breaks and inclement weather.

One version of this I have heard is in regards to the suit of armor that was worn by a Cast Member who would then pop out at guests in a Doom Buggy. That did happen, the false story is that it was ended due to a guest being so scared he had a heart attack. I think another version is that the ride in general was so scary that it scared a guest to death, literally.

Warning very very outrageous, if you read I cannot be held responsible for mental images or thoughts.

Myth as perpetuated by by colleagues: Walt Dusney has to kill someone off in everyone of his films rather its actually shown in the film or hinted at because he sold his soul to the devil so natural disaster would not happen in the his parks.
Status: I don't know maybe when they unfreeze Walt he will tell us.

Gosh, I hate that one. How about if SBC were any taller, a red beacon light would have had to be placed on top of it. I hate that one, too.

That one is based in some truth. The regulation dictated the height of the Hollywood Tower Hotel at the Disney-MGM Studios and the Forbidden Mountain at Disney's Animal Kingdom.

It's a federal FAA regulation to protect planes from smashing into the buildings on accident.

Yeah, but people act as if the castle were just a few feet taller, the beacon would be there. It would take more than a few feet.

There's the one were if you are late with your fastpass window you can ask nicely if they will let you in and they will or if they don't you scream like someone is torturing you and you will get a free weeks stay at a luxury resort for as many people as you want, any time you want, but you still won't get on the ride.

Truth be known I just made that one up, but it could happen.

On the one about the fast pass... It totally happened to me.. My dumb-brain wasn't paying attention and got over to Space Mountain and looked up and said.. oh snap... Missed that by 15 minutes... oh well.. We can get another fast pass.. The CM smiled and said.. Oh heck.. go ahead... We totally went to Guest Relations and told them how the cast member went above and beyond and she didn't have to to make the day a bit more magical.
