So how could the suite in Cinderella Castle be for Walt? People and their rumors and imaginations.
It couldn't have been. Disney likes to perpetuate the story. I'd love to get my hands on some plans in the Archives and see what that space is labeled. Roy didn't finish the apartment in New Orleans Square, so I can't imagine he'd be interested in a Magic Kingdom apartment, especially since he likely would have retired had he not passed in December of '71. Lilian and the girls, through Retlaw, still owned the apartment in Disneyland so it could be that they had at one time expressed interest in another apartment, but I don't think Retlaw owned anything at Walt Disney World.

Just did a quick measurement on Google Earth, and looks like either Disneyland or Magic Kingdom park could easily fit in the MK parking lot. It's big.

good thing you used google earth and
not apple maps, according to that travesty if you needed to go to a hospital in florida you were sent to a supermarket. god, I can picture now somebody trying to find the magic kingdom and leaving with a hufflepuff shirt.....

Whenever you get your hands on those documents, let me know.

I could be totally wrong here, but I thought they did finish the apartment in New Orleans Square? They just didn't finish furnishing it because Walt died. They then turned it into what was the art shop, which is now just closed. I'm not super great with timelines anyway, but I'm pretty sure I saw this on a documentary or read it in a book about Walt.

It may be awhile. I'm not even sure how to start such a process, but I'd love the chance to look!

It was built, I meant finished as in outfitted to be used as an apartment. It became office space for awhile, including where a lot of work with the Oriental Land Company was done in regards to putting together Tokyo Disneyland. In the late 1980s it became the Disney Gallery, which left the location when the space, along with the space in the castle, was finally "completed" as the Dream Suite for the Year of a Million Dreams.

Nope. The apartment was put on hold once Walt Disney passed. It was completed fairly recently. It's absolutely gorgeous, would love to stay one night.

Do you know when construction on the CC Dream Suite started?
The room was always there. It housed a telephone switchboard for a few years and then was used as storage space until being claimed for the Year of a Million Dreams. It may have had some other uses here and there, but I don't recall anything of significance except its supposed intentions as an apartment.

I didn't know that. Well I knew the room was there, but I wasn't aware of its use. That is quite interesting.

Thanks for the fact straightening! I had no idea they turned it back to a suite, ahhh more things to add to my Disney Bucket list. I should really rename that to things that will probably never happen haha
I'm pretty sure now they only use the suite for Make a Wish type situations.
