Mystery Project at Epcot

Would nighttime entertainment be considered an "attraction"? He also said was talking about how he was shocked Disney is investing in the project...so I doubt it is Illuminations. It doesn't add up. It seems like it is most likely an Innoventions attraction. Although my heart yearns for an Imagination redo. But it really is interesting how Innoventions is all closing up shop so quickly....

If they replaced each of those solar cells with modern photovoltaics, it would provide a ton more electricity to the attraction. If scholarly memory serves, the best efficiency for a photovoltaic on the market in 1980 was like 16%. In 2012, we hit almost 45%.
They all got replaced though I can't pin down a date. Certainly after the mid 90s.

What is interesting about this is that I also recently read that there is a rumor about a second restaurant opening in the unused building at the top of the Canada Pavilion. Why is this interesting? Because up until now, the building was not usable due to fireworks that are launched right in back of this particular building.

There are no fireworks launched anywhere near Canada aside from New Years Eve.

Where did you read the restaurant rumour? Laser booth aside, the space up there is tiny. Seriously.

I am going to have to see if I can find where I saw that. The way it was written was that this could either be an extension of Le Cellier - which would not necessitate a large space - or a much smaller eating venue that would not necessarily be a TS. If I find it I will copy the link to here.

Just out of curiosity, I have never been there New Year's Eve. What happens during the fireworks that is different? Is it like the tag during Christmas or is it a different show entirely?

Mmmm, if they just opened a window to serve poutine from, I'd be happy. Something along the lines of the fish and chips stand in the UK pavilion.

I agree about the Imagination redo (would love that!) and would be interested in seeing an Innoventions upgrade. But...

I'm thinking it is a re-do of the Illuminations show. It has been rumored for a while and the Jerry Rees rumors originally date back to 2013, so it may have been in the works behind the scenes for a while. Anything in an existing building would probably have needed to start construction by this point to hit a 2016 opening date.

I hope I'm wrong though. I'd love for more Epcot rides!

I'm sure this has already been asked, but is "next-gen" something specific? Is it just new technology? And I'm wondering how Illuminations could be "interactive". Any ideas?

If it is a new illuminations show, any guesses as to what it will be like? First thing that comes to mind is WOC fountains.. but that would involve a lot of work that probably would have been underway by now...

Maybe we will hear some actual details during D23 this year when they are supposedly going to announce the Star Wars changes at DHS.
D23 will be interesting this year. What information will we get regarding Star Wars Land/ Pixar expansion in DHS, more details about Avatar Land, EPCOT updates ( if any )?????? It could very exciting times for WDW

I still feel it is likely that this mystery project will be a replacement for Eo. It certainly would fit Rees being a movie guy, the attraction is long overdue to be replaced with something new, and it something that could be done quickly such that it can still happen in 2015/2016 even though no work has started yet. There's also little hints like his resume page describing the project being purple, long associated with the Imagination pavilion.

On top of that, Eo is going away to be replaced by a movie preview and Disney seems kinda vague about it returning, even though they say it will.

If this is the case I would hope nothing too WoC-like, as it appears Rivers of Light is going to follow that style.
And I do quite enjoy the blend RoE has between fireworks/centerpiece currently. Maybe new fireworks with an innovative lighting/laser/non-fireworks interlude.

Also, this just got me thinking.. if they ever take away the Torches around the world showcase I will be deeply saddened. I love that addition and I think it could be tastefully added to whatever comes after RoE. (Plus entering EPCOT at the end of the marathon and seeing the torches alight around the lagoon was absolutely amazing).

Could be. Hope so. My bingo sheet has west coast star wars land, DHS 2.0, and an EPCOT surprise on it at least.

The more time passes the more I'm inclined to think likewise. The only hesitation is can they put something in there that is more than just another 3d/'4d' show? Something larger than life? Or is that just passion for a personal project getting everyone's hopes up?

What's funny is how much hype we got during the past few Expo's only to find out we get...

And CLEARY We see all of this construction and Disney is like..."We are preparing for a New Washroom....Move Along."

After the regular show and tag countries not on the U.S. timeline have their own mini fireworks show launched from behind them. Canada is not one of these. However all 11 pavilions have shells launched from behind them during a ten second countdown and on the strike of midnight.

I just keep thinking about WDW's 50th coming up in a few years, and if they're planning to have a grand celebration (which I'm seriously crossing my fingers for), then now would be the time to seriously ramp up all types of construction and plussing of the parks so that they're ALL EQUALLY show ready for a celebration as grand as a 50th anniversary. Perhaps (and this is a big perhaps), we will get news we've all been waiting for and maybe even some surprises at D23 this year. This is obviously the most optimistic side of me consuming all of my thoughts.
