They only do the seasonal closings for the waterparks because it saves WDW money, not because they have too.

If a resort was connected to either Typhoon Lagoon or Blizzard Beach, It would allow them to be open Year-long as it would provide enough traffic and business to the waterparks.

It's too cold in Orlando for at least two months of the year for one water park - let alone two! I've been twice to WPs at WDW in January or February, and wondered to myself, "why did I do this today??"

This feels like Deja Vu. Didn’t we discuss this late last year when water management permits were filed? I thought the consensus was booth storage and not an EPCOT hotel? I can’t find the old thread.

That's a lot of land cleared out for storing the food kiosks. With the Guardians of the Galaxy ride pushing outside of the traditional boundaries of the park, I have to wonder if the powers that be at Disney have realized that there's a lot of space inside those boundaries that is taken up by backstage offices and such that could be moved outside the boundaries, possibly to that central location, with perhaps more being moved to behind the Guardians coaster building at a later date. So, this might be an area where additional permits will be seen down the road.

A resort is possible, but that's a pretty small piece of land for a Disney resort. It's smaller than the area the Riviera Resort is going to occupy, and I don't see them putting a 15 story tower right in back of the World Showcase.

Riviera is already visible behind Italy.

I doubt it's clearing now for a resort imminently though, there's already the FW and front of Epcot sites, plus the SW resort, which all seem further on in planning.

Could it be used as temporary storage for now, then do some exploratory stuff later on when they're "ready" to consider another resort?

You think a single resort would be enough to support an entire waterpark in the winter?

That was one of my guesses. Weren’t the food kiosks previously stored where Rat is for the summer? If so, they’ll need a temporary home soon.

They have already created a new location for Kiosk storage, see the picture below. Since this mystery area was part of the skyliner permit, because it's just being cleared and covered with gravel and since it connects to the strip of land where the Skyliner will run, I still think it has something to do with the Skyliner, just not sure what.

Jiminy Christmas man. Every time I try and secretively build my giant storage shed, you weirdos are all like, “what’s going on? Why did those trees go bye bye?” Guess I’m taking my kit back to Menards for the umpteenth time. Let’s time travel. In a few months, KS is not being expanded and nothing interesting is being done, so it’s best ignored. OK?

So this is really out there as far as speculation goes, but could they possibly be adding a previously unannounced inline station here, and putting in some sort of transport hub for either direct access to the bus system or potentially a transfer to the rumored, yet unspecified other method of mass transit? (presumed light rail or something similar)

Buena Vista Dr heads towards Animal Kingdom and Disney Springs, a light rail system or some other system would work really well running along this road, connecting Coronado, All Stars, and the waterworks as well.

Having this spot used as a transfer point with the Skyliner would open up access to the HS and Epcot as well.

Yes i do, Cabana Bay down the road with Volcano Bay?

and let's not forget both WDW waterparks get more guests than Volcano Bay.
The point is that Disney feels winter attendance at its water parks is too low to justify them both be open. It’s unlikely a single resort would move the needle enough for them to justify year round operation.

I love the idea of a resort tied to blizzard beach. I think it would be great. I just can’t see them locking themselves into year round operation by marketing a resort with connected water park.

That was cleared towards the end of my trip ??? first week of May-ish???? From the bus or my car I could only see the portion cleared that followed the road. Since it started at an intersection my thought was either another enterance point for the Rivera or a temporary road for construction vehicles or ultimately both. It is wide enough to be a road and didnt give it much thought since that is what it appeared to be to me unlike the Tron Clearing that was happening behind Circus & Walkway to Tomorrowland at the same time which was massive clearing happening.

I am not sure this is true. The work they do during those season closures is extensive. They do not save on labor because all the labor has to be moved and worked at other locations. So now they have zero revenue from that park, all the employees are giving hours elsewhere, the same hours they would be working if the park was open, and they are paying a refurbishment crew to come in and do refurbishments. The park is closed, but it is not idol. This does not save them money.

Thanks for pointing out the kiosks' new storage area. Heh, well, I was right about the area being too large just for kiosk storage. I lack the engineering skills to have any reason to think they'd be putting in a power station there for the Skyliner. Given the concept art showing that storage and maintenance looks to be taking place at the CBR hub, my other guess that this might have a switch to send gondolas to a maintenance area doesn't seem likely.

This area is bigger than where the transfer hub at the Caribbean Beach is, so something doesn't add up here. So I have to wonder if Skyliner was used to get a "foot in the door" on this area of land, which will be used for something Skyliner related as a fig leaf, and later....?

Then again, a person could make a lot of money following me around a casino, betting the opposite of what I bet. :)
