Sorry if this is posted somewhere else here, but did a search, just didn't come up with anything...
In regards to the link mysongofthesouth.com, has anyone purchased this dvd, and if so, how is the qaulity? Have been considering it, but am a bit sceptical...:shrug:

I have read others posts that the quality wasn't too good- at least I thought that I had read that. But I did order it, and I didn't think the quality was too bad. Granted, I do not have a high definition tv or anything, but I thought it was close to what I would expect when I buy a dvd from anywhere else.

OT, when we got it we made a family movie night and made the kids watch with us. They said it was boring, and I couldn't get the songs out of my head. :lol:

I would not trust them, The video is not for release in the USA. I emailed them about this over a week ago and they never replied. I was curious about their validity. Thus I think it is a complete hoax. Do not waste your time and money. If they were real, they would have replied to me. I think it is sick that people try to make money of of SONG OF THE SOUTH. Just a way for some idiots to make a fast buck.

That particular site may not have been discussed, but you're going to get an ethical debate here, whether you want one or not.

The quality of all those DVDs varies greatly.

What it boils down to is if you care or don't care that this is a bootleg copy of the movie.

If you don't care, you shouldn't care if you download a copy of the movie instead of paying for it (since your money would only be going to pirates anyway), which you can do for free at a lot of torrent sites (http://www.isohunt.com/torrents/?ihq=song+of+the+south). At least then, if you get one of poor quality, you can delete the file and download a new one. No money lost.

Good luck with whatever you choose to do!

Hmmm...sounds good, so far. I've seen that "add" soo many times, but have been reluctant. maybe I'll just do it. How long did it take to receive once you placed the order?

Yeah, I had a hunch it was just a bootleg...I really wish Disney would just release the movie. I did read the other post's that they were "in talks" if-you-will...
maybe someday, someone will get the nerve to just make the decision:confused:

This reminds me of an interesting tidbit. I was reading an interview with Gerard Way from My Chemical Romance and he said that he and his brother would sell bootlegs of Song of the South on ebay to pay for concert tickets when they were in college. If you bought a bootleg from New Jersey 5 or 6 years back, then you may have a pretty cool autograph and never knew it.

seriously - i gave them a chance this year after watching hayseed dixie at a festival, they just didnt have stage presence, or deceant material :(

i do like a few songs - but *meh* i went to the bar...

^^You know, I've always wanted to finance some hobby by selling things on eBay that it would be free for me to procure (or close to free), but I've always been scared away by the threat of getting into legal trouble or my conscience.

Oh well, I guess a Figment collection made under dobious pretenses wouldn't be quite as meaningful...

I bought a copy earlier this year. The sound and picture quality are pretty bad IMHO although another poster on here bought it around the same time as me and he thought the quality was great(you know who you are:wave: ). There are weird discolorations in the film and the sound is scratchy and tends to "shatter" in places. I don't feel bad at all for buying a bootleg copy because I fully intend to buy the "official" release if/when it happens. I just don't get the whole "just download it" argument. I love actually having a physical copy, I guess it's the collector in me. While the quality was pretty bad I still loved it. I hadn't seen the movie in it's entirety since I was a child. I loved it then, I still love it now. It really is a fantastic movie IMHO and I don't get the whole "racist" vibe at all. If anything the bootleg copy made me long even more for an official Disney release, a pristine copy with loads of extras(that i'm sure Disney is sitting on)would be like a dream come true for me. As it is, at least I have a DVD copy that I can pop into my DVD player whenever I want and enjoy this great film.


Even though I didn't find the film to be racist I was quite offended at one of the extras...an old Warner Bros. cartoon called Coal Black and the Sebben Dwarfs that was released in 1943 and ultimately banned in 1968 for it's racist content(it is one of the censored eleven). Come on Disney, wake up and give this film the Disney Special Edition treatment that it deserves! And, by the way, Splash Mountain is my favorite ride.:D

If you're referring to me, just to clarify, I never said the quality was "great". I found the quality "good"...perhaps "great" if I were to compare it to the reviews from you and others who purchased a copy. :wave:

Ethically, I don't have a problem purchasing a pirated copy, since Disney isn't trying to make money by selling its own legal copies. And I would rather pay money for a copy that I can watch in bed or in my recliner, than to download it for free and have to sit in front of my computer in my hard wooden chair to watch. I'm sure there are ways to download it and send it to your TV, but I'm not anywhere close to being that technologically advanced. LOL In the world of computers, I'm still driving around in a model-T. :ROFLOL:

I like having a true product, rather than a bootlegged copy as well. Maybe someday Disney will release this movie. I'm not really into downloading movies. just enjoy all the extra's, too!!!:ROFLOL:

I actually bought mine about a toy convention in Chicago, they actually let you preview the movie on a portable DVD player they had there. It was actually really good, I know it's a bootleg. Same on me. Oh well. From what I hear, you can buy it at these type of conventions. The price was nice, $10.

I always frown everytime I hear so many stories of Song of the South... It really was a beautiful piece of work. As for if they would or wouldn't ever take this movie out of the vault ever for the states... I don't know, but I always wish they did.


Sometimes, i feel that some people are so deprived to not know where the characters of Brer Rabbit or Fox or Bear or Splash Mountain or Zipadeedoodah or a laughin' place or "How do ya do?" ever came from. It was an amazing film.

I think it's about time that this movie is released again. It is absolutely ridiculous just because of one scene, to condemn an entire film. Another thing, by not releasing it, are we trying to deny that slavery ever existed in this country??? I'm sorry to get so political, but it's just a movie! Maybe they should ban the movie Roots too!:mad:
