MyMagic+ MagicBands to begin testing in parks soon

Seriously, what do you guys think is so different from what is currently in place? The only new element with the band is that you don't need to go to a fast pass kiosk for every fast pass. And the ability to customize your Test Track experience without a separate card. The band is essentially a Key to the World card in all other aspects. This is NOT a totally new thing.
Please consider it this way: Does it make sense for Disney to spend $1.5 Billion so they can offer essentially the same as what they offered before?

Anyone know if you're NOT staying at a Disney resort BUT you're going to a Disney park would you still be able to buy things with the band?

Yes and no. I think we all agree Disney can do better on park quality and enhancements. But, at the same time we all agree Disney is a business. The bands are a great idea from a sales/merch perspective. I do not trade pins or collect vinylmation, but these items make a lot of money for Disney. The bands will do the same thing from a collector/customizing perspective.

I am very interested to give the whole thing a try when we go there the end of this year. So far the only negative that I see is the limited number of Fastpass+ reservations that you can make in one day and that they limit you to one park. For those who like to park hop that puts a damper on things.

It's almost 14 years after the introduction of FP and CMs are still explaining it.

MagicBands involve considerably more elements than FP. I suspect it's going to take a lot of explaining to anyone who isn't already familiar with the basic concepts of MagicBands before they arrive.

I think we need to give people more credit. I'm amazed how quickly people adapted to using iPhones, digital cameras etc. It doesn't take much to understand that the MagicBand basically replaces all those tickets and bits of paper. Disney will have in-room TV, paper guides, website guides, help on the smartphones, and of course the cast members. They have more ways than ever to educate people, and I think they will succeed.

Of course there will be some that don't get it, just like with FP, but the majority will.

The test will be at Animal Kingdom Lodge and Animal Kingdom park, with Cast Members acting as Guests. MagicBands were previously tested in Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios a few weeks ago.

You are absolutely right. People who are anti MyMagic+ are putting up the notion that it is extremely complex to use and understand - it isn't.

Key point with this test is that it is the first time it has been used across the whole spectrum of the functions. The previous tests were limited.

Hmm...Last I heard the test was to span all four parks. This was several weeks ago though so my information may be outdated.

I could be wrong on this one, but lets think about this as a whole. Disney knows that many families park hop, they also know that plans change...such is life. Right now we are only seeing a very limited amount of what the service has to offer. I imagine that you'll have the ability to schedule your entire day..wherever you want to go...once the initial testing is complete. It may take time, but I think they would want people to experience the parks when and how they want.

Hope so. BTW, like seeing someone with a positive attitude towards all the changes!
