That's a 4+. 4 rowers, 4 oars, 1 coxswain. A quad (which is what my husband rows) would have 4 rowers, 8 oars, and usually no coxswain. The bow person has to keep looking over their shoulder and "watch the road" as it were. So they were more interesting to follow and often needed course correction - hopefully before they crashed into another shell.
