Ok so I know this sounds horrible and I would never entertain this idea but my fiance and I are looking into it. We have had this trip planned since march. She was expecting from what her friends told me to get her engagment ring in WDW so I stepped it up and gave it to her for graduation. It drained the bank! Now we have just been hit with every road block imaginable trying to pay for this trip in sept by the 45days due date. which is in like 30 days. Her car has broken down, we had a death in the family, i was out sick from work for a few days, its just a nightmare.

or how about has disney ever extended the 45 day payment time for anyone?

Thank you all for the imput. We have been in the past very good with money and budgets. We will have the money by the time we travel in Spet, just not with in the 45days they ask for. I have appealed to Disney for the extension and am waiting to see what they say.
We are getting into the wedding planning now so you can imagine all we are seeing is $$$$ all around. We both made the decision that we would rather cut a few corners on the wedding then give up this trip. It has just been so long since we were there and this was suppose to be a kick off for a fabulous year.

It would be such a stress reducer for us if this trip was off the table but I feel the harder we fight and save for it, the more enjoyable it can be

P.S. If you really want the extension, you'll want to call Disney Reservations and speak to someone. Sending an e-mail will likely be unproductive.

We considered skipping it and making our honey moon, however our wedding is going to end of July. No way we will head to WDW with the potential for the heat.

Then perhaps just make it an early honeymoon and just have a nice weekend getaway after the wedding. That way you're not paying for two trips.

I don't think they will extend the deadline.

I personally would not take out a loan. That's not a good way to start your life together. This is only the first of many difficult decisions you will be making together, and most involve postponing getting what you want until you have what you need. You need to start refilling that savings account before you spend more money on luxuries.

Being an adult is not always fun.

That is why they call her "The Mom." You do not always like what she has to say, but in the end, she is usually right.

We always make sure we can pay our vacation up front, with money saved up, no credit cards. The only thing I put on a credit card was my AP last November and that took me 5 months to pay off so it did gain a little interest. We always immdiately start budgeting the day we get back from our current trip for the next one. I knew that when I got back on May 7th I would have to save $100 a paycheck for the next trip in Sept for hotel, food, MNSSHP tickets and souvenirs. (Airfare was already bought) If we crunch numbers and realize it's going to be tight or we just can't do it, we will change the trip. I understand emergencies come up. My car needed almost $1,000 worth of fixing right before our trip last month but somehow I made it work and till got to go. I don't think I would ever take out a loan.

I would usually say no. But there are always exceptions. Have you paid off any of the trip already?

In my life if it is a luxury item like a dinner out or a vacation I follow this rule...if it aint cash, it aint done! I know it is hard these days but very truly and honestly "buy now pay later" is the very credo that got our country where it is today with the lending institutions crumbling and real estate market in a shambles. I draw my line in the sand before I even get onto the beach.

On the plus side if you do postpone and then go when you can afford it out of pocket it will seem all that much more gratifying that you worked hard as a partners to get there...just an extra added plus to help enjoy the trip!

i hate to be to personal how much are you talking and what is ur vacation like? is there anyway to trim back the trip like if your in a premium go to a lesser hotel? Maybe give up something else? or decrease by a day or two. We did put our last trip on a disney visa fully expecting to pay it off ... life happened but we got it paid after 5 months. I would say if you can pay the trip in 3 months i would throw it on the disney visa at the very last minute and go for it. provided it was reasonable good luck

The Disney Visa lets you pay for the vacation and have interest free financing for 6 months. That being said - I would NOT put a trip on a credit card and not pay it off unless you are absolutely certain you can pay it within the 6 months. The interest will be accruing that entire time and if it is not paid in full you will be slammed with 6 months of interest (compounded) at around 20%. Think of it this way - would you rather pay for a trip and a quarter (including the interest) now, or push it off and just pay for the trip.

They say the most common thing newly married couples argue about is money.
OMG- a married couple for 15 years also argues about money! LOL.

As someone who used to be very irresponsible with money and would do this very thing, all I can say is, don't. I've been very fortunate that we can take vacations and pay up front for them, but if I wasn't able to, as much as it would pain me, I wouldn't go. Being in debt is a horrible feeling, and if you're in a situation where you can't afford a trip, then you should simply put the money aside until you've got enough, then go. I know it's easier said than done, but vacations are a luxury, not a necessity. Not to hijack this thread, but honestly, this is exactly why we haven't bought into DVC. I guess it's personal preference and beliefs.
I hear ya on the DVC! It's the annual fees that get me!:(

HAHA, well please dont roll your eyes but we are staying at the poly. We can cut our trip by almost 50% just by staying at the values. I guess we are still at the stubborn point and dont want to budge much.

Even if you cut back to a moderate or one of the less expensive deluxe hotels, you'd be putting this trip more in reach. i.e. WL or AKL would save you a considerable amt. The Garden Wing at CR as well as BC, YC, and BW should also be some savings...not as much...but also not the high prices of the Poly. And if you can't give up going to the Poly- have you thought about cutting back your number of park days and just relax & enjoy the nice deluxe resort you'll be at? Do you have hoppers? i.e. you could cut back to single park tickets to boost savings? Are you doing any dining? maybe you could scale back to CS and groceries since food at WDW is a huge expense.

Also, you're doing a pkg- have you thought about switching to room only? This way you'd have more time to pay + you could buy tickets through Undercover Tourist and save quite a bit there as well.

I've put portions of pricey trips on credit cards and it's really tough to dig out...especially when you have something as huge as a wedding on the horizon. If it were me, I'd either switch my resort and plans to something more affordable and cut back on park tickets OR just wait until the trip you want is something that won't put you into considerable debt.

I absolultley agree Disney World isn't goin anywhere anytime soon plus I'll think it'll be more enjoyable knowing you dont have a loan. I never take out a loan so I dont have to deal with that stress an worry :)

Honestly - and just being brutally honest here. If you have to take out a loan you can't afford it and since you decided to stay at the Poly rather than a Value it not only means you can't afford it but you think that spending WAY above your means is OK. If you start justifying things like that I predict an extreme amount of debt in the future.

It's a really easy hole to fall into and a really hard one to crawl out of and you don't seem like you have the financial maturity to make good decisions when it comes to money.

Honestly I'm not trying to disrespect you but if you were my friend or family member I would try to talk some sense into you.

The loan Idea was out. The loan we were looking for was just goign to be short term like 3 months. nothing drawn out. WE can justify this expense all day long. However there has just been so many speedbumps these past two months then we have seen all year!

I have talked to Disney and seeing if we can get that deadline extended. worth a shot to atleast ask and if any one on this board has a little "pixie dust" or some pull please shoot me a message if you can help!

If that doesnt work we have three other options we are goign to look at but baby steps. I want to see how this plays out. I am hoping Disney will give me some magic here.

I have worked in the banking industry for over 20 years and have worked with people exploring options in how to payoff credit card/personal loan debt. Unfortunately there is not always an easy answer. Just with the experience I have and the things I've seen concerning unnecessary debt accumulation I would never recommend taking out a loan to finance a trip. A previous poster suggested postponing the trip until you have rebuilt your savings account and I wholeheartedly second that advice!! Don't forget too.....Christmas will be right around the corner and along with it extra expenses!
