My Magic + details ...

I'm going in December, and I'm hoping that none of this has been implemented yet. I'm actually thinking of rushing back asap so I can experience the things we've been missing since the last trip (4 years - hard financial times) before they do this. And if it's implemented and gets bad reviews here, my next FL trip will be to Universal, no doubt about it. It makes that much of a difference to me.
It should all be live by the end of the year.

After looking around Twitter, I found that @AttractionsMagazine had posted something that I found very interesting:
Disney World is planning on converting all park entry turnstiles to the new entry touch points by Sept. 1.

This could possibly mean that MyMagic+ could be officially rolled out by then with FastPass+ and even the Magic Band. They are currently heavily testing the system and Magic Bands and it seems that it is possible that this could happen.

Nah. They will just give you paper tickets with an RFID sticker on them.

Judging from what our insiders have said, if the MM+/NGE system were fully rolled out on September 1, the system would collapse under its own glitches by September 2.

Haven't they already given everyone MyMagic+ tickets? I have quite a few from April.

I believe paper tickets have been RFID capable for some time (its been a little confusing trying to keep up with when things have happened).

But getting back to the Tweet, all entry touch point gates wouldn't necessarily indicate that MM+ (or even FP+) is going to be implemented on Sept 1. All it means is that the old turnstiles will be no more and that you will need an RFID enabled ticket to enter the park.

Good Point. I was thinking Magic Bands would become available because of the changes.

I wasn't a fan of those new entry points. seemed slower and more crowded. 2 magic poles to a row, and sort of an awkward "did my card scan" dance occurs with the CM saying "HOLD IT CLOSER!"

just give me a freakin barcode! :devilish:

This just means they hope to have most people on RFID ticket media and not much more. There is still ongoing testing. A step, but hardly a sign of a complete rollout.

Most turnstiles are already switched over and that is what the majority (if not all) are using. Key to the world cards are already RFID capable and if you have a paper ticket (not RFID) they have cast members with tablet or IPhone/iPod device with swipe capability. Cast members at the gates have said they are expecting to still deal with paper tickets that are already issued for some time (one said a year) since there are some out there with a no expiration option. I want to say the majority of entry into the parks now is through RFID on a card. Doesn't matter if it is a magic band or KTTW, same technology.

Our room at Bay Lake had entry to the rooms with just touching the key card to the reader on the door. A wristlet with my key inserted (where your "license" would go) was the easiest thing aside from a magic band. Touched the card to pay, get in the room, etc. I for one am thrilled for this new technology as it will alleviate the need to collect cards after entry (so the child and husband do not lose them). Bring it on!!

What a gracious and magical way to enter a theme park. This NextGen stuff really sounds like it's paying off!

Same here. Not sue why some don't like the idea of MyMagic+.

I honestly thought we got through so much faster. Easier entry with wheel chairs and scooters. Tap the card, press your finger, and wait for the green. My son had an easier time with this than the other biometric.

if I were to complain about anything with regards to this roll over, it would have to be the pin pad you use when making a payment at the stores, restaurant, etc. the keys on the pad are very tiny. Makes it hard with longer finger nails haha!

I found this technology to seriously make this trip much easier. I know it sounds bizarre, but I loved the ease of it all.

And to correct my previous post on all entry points, I do remember that Disney Quest only had the older entry turnstiles.

There shouldn't be a "am I doing this right" question to entering a Theme Park!

Agreed about the wheel chairs and scooters. But the lack of gate I think confuses most people. I noticed people looking around with a "uh...where's the gate" look, then attempting to just walk through, then figure out what to do with the Magic Pole. I know that the learning curve is relatively fast (you should get it after the first time you do it), but maybe more visual cues should be used.

It's not the MyMagic+, it's the prospect of FP+. Limit on # of FP per day, only one park makes hoppers useless, fear that all FP slots will be taken before park arrival making changes difficult, etc. MM+ seems to be great. Sure there are detractors that are concerned about privacy, but I don't see how the privacy concerns are much different than before. It's the FP+ that's my real concern

you two seem to be confusing the fact that the RFID technology and MagicBands are only a small part of the MyMagic+/NextGen Rollout. Maybe you can give the Mouse your money faster than before, but that's just a small piece of the pie. Limited FPs, FPs for one park per day, possible a limiting of Park Hopping, etc are all on the horizon.
