My Disneyland vs. WDW Opinion...what's yours?

Leave Park comparisons to the following:
1. People with a design education. Architects, artists etc.
or
2. People with a theatrical design education
or
3. People with film or print design education

All others - step aside.

Disney Imagineering has said many time "Disneyland is the gem. If anything Disneyland Paris is the superior design amoung all of the compan's Parks." - Right from the designers themselves. God has spoken

Case closed

Well if that is the case, I have a BBA in Finance and since WDW does more for the bottom line of the company as well as the shareholders, I would say it must be the better of the two. Point in this statement being we are all trained in a particular field and the way we individually judge the final product of each park from our educational and professional experience are totally different than what really matters, the way each individual consumer views the final product.

When I went to Disneyland I was expecting to at least like the Disneyland park more than the Magic Kingdom park but I really didn't at all. I liked it okay...but in my opinion, with a few exceptions, most of the attractions were better at the Magic Kingdom. Maybe I'm just used to them more, I dunno. I did like New Orleans Square better than Liberty Square and I did like their Pirates a bit better. And the Indiana Jones ride was more fun than Dinosaur. But I thought almost everything else was better at WDW (the outside of it's a small world was much prettier at Disneyland but the inside was much better at WDW) and the extra rides they had at Disneyland (like a little train ride, the Storybookland ride, a Roger Rabbit ride, a Pinnochio ride) were nothing special, in my opinion. I would much rather have the TTA, Philarmagic, and even Carousel of Progress. Everything at Disney World just seems more grand to me - the castle being the biggest example. I can see why people might prefer Disneyland since it is a charming place and the only park that Walt lives to see - but the World will always be number one in my book. I do want to go to the overseas parks someday - especially DisneySea because that park looks so beautiful.

I found a great video of Remember....Dreams Come True http://youtube.com/watch?v=5ibxCo_IGfs
Does anybody know how long they had this, because when I went in 2005, their show didn't seem to be like this. They only had the fireworks one night of our stay, and we were on Autopia when it started, so we missed half of it, but does anyone know?

Why do people complain Sleeping Beauty castle at DL is too small? Would these same people complain of it being 'too small" if it were the only castle at any of the parks ? i think not. You people only complain because you compare it to Cindarella castle at the MK. Sleeping Beaty castle fits fine at DL. Main St. and its building are scaled pefectly to compliment its size. It was the first park built for heavens sake, no nneed to complain about it, it is perfect for Disneyland. And for what it is worth i lived the first 40 yrs of my life 5 mins from Disneyland(lucky, aren't I)and i practically lived there so i am very aware of Disneyland vs. the Mk and WDW.(live in central Fl. now)

I am an Architect with a master's degree from Columbia University. Disneyland's magic kingdom is superior to WDW's magic kingdom in the follwowing areas:

Architecture and overall design
Scale integration / set design
Planning, circulation and layout
Detailing
Lighting
Ride effects and ride systems integration
Show design and human performance
Preservation
Upkeep.
Management

There is no room for any other opinions unless you have a better degree.

This is how an educated person speaks:hurl: And exactly how would you judge who has the better degree. Perhaps your logic could use a little work. Oh, and I have a Master's degree as well.

While I do agree, it is shocking for people like me who only saw the MK at WDW version for so long, then looking around for a castle and finally realizing this large souvenir looking thing IS the castle!

It's all about perspective...then I see pictures of HKDL where the same size castle is seen in front of a huge mountain and it looks even smaller!

My whole post was comparing the two parks. So, obviously I'm going to compare Cinderella Castle with Sleeping Beauty Castle.

As a stand-alone castle...it works fine...but comparing the two, you can't help but realize that Cinderella Castle is more prominent and "awe-inspiring."

Awwww. its so great that teh intertubes lets you compensate for shortcomings in the real world...

This sounds like a bad Fark Cliche:

"Well, I am an architect, so I am really getting a kick out of these replies..."

Anyone who makes blanket statements like so have only served to remove themselves from the conversation, and provide humor to those watching...

Thanks for the April Fools

I know this is beating a dead horse...but I just can't believe how amazing that Indy Ride is.

Is the "Lucas-land" confirmed for DHS or is it all just rumors right now?

I'd also really like a "Burton-land"

I enjoyed reading your opinionated comparison, Freaky. Glad to see you and the Mrs had a fabulous time.

My favorite part of your original post...

Did you know that in MuppetVision 3D...if you look back at the projector area where the Swedish Chef is...it says, "Lil Sparky?"

A final thought. While I prefer Disneyland, I am so happy that there are worthwhile differences between Disneyland and Magic Kingdom. If there weren't, I might never visit them BOTH. And both parks, heck, both RESORTS offer so much wonderful stuff that the other doesn't. And what I DON'T like about both parks these days is when one gets an attraction and then the other follows suit. I'd much rather have MORE reasons to visit both that more similarities.

I have a degree in parks, recreation and hospitality management, I think that should qualify me for having an opinion on Disneyland vs. Disney World...And having never visited Disneyland, my opinion is that...your fancy nancy architecture degree makes you no more qualified than me to have thoughts on what makes one park superior to the other. It makes you no more successful than me, no happier than me, no better than me (or anyone else posting on here) but apparently it DOES make you more arrogant. Remember my friend...an opinion is just that, and until someone starts listing false FACTS about something that you have actual knowledge about, perhaps you need a friendly reminder of something that the rest of us learned in kindergarden-if you don't have something nice to say, close your browser window and leave everyone else to their chat.

BEWARE LONG POST

Hmm..
In my humble opinion (been to Disneyland 2 times; Walt Disney World about 20 or so)... If you're comparing the Magic Kingdom to Disneyland, I think they are pretty much equal. + Better, Longer It's a Small World (better building; bad flume)
+ Better Buzz Lightyear Attraction (AstroBlasters)
+ Better (somewhat) Jungle Cruise

+ Remember, Dreams Come True Fireworks
+ The Sailing Ship Columbia
+ Closer Hotels (both on property and off)
+ DISNEY's CALIFORNIA ADVENTURE
+ Shorter Line for Soarin' (Soarin' Over California)
+ Pixar Play Parade
+ Aladdin, A Musical Spectacular
+ a bug's land
+ Paradise Pier attractions
+ Better Disney animation attraction
+ Better It's Tough to Be A Bug

I hate comparing DL to WDW because I love them both. They are completely different experiences and it would be impossible for me to choose one over the other.

We are DL regulars and are visiting WDW MK for the first time in July. Are we going to be disappointed?

No way. You'll find WDW to be different... but still extreme fun. You'll find that there's much more to do, but you might also miss the homeliness and intimacy of Disneyland. Even though some prefer one resort over the other, they still have a bucketload of fun, and I'm sure you will. Have a good one!

Nope. You'll love it. Go enjoy all the stuff that Magic Kingdom has that DL doesn't. Enjoy a Peoplemover, COP, and Country Bears. Check out the improved HM. They're different, but both highly enjoyable. And even though most here might dislike the NEW Tiki Room, check it out for yourself.

I used to be able to go to both parks each year and really looked forward to the differences. And it is REALLY nice that they actually HAVE a night time parade in the MK. It still burns me up that DL doesn't.

What's really great is there are enough differences to make them almost like a new park for you.
