2013/2014/2015 - MuppetVision 2 - Rumor - (1/24/11) Keep in mind that this concept is only just an idea within the Mouse’s house of ideas with no set timeline. I’m hearing that give the popularity the Muppets are starting to recieve once again, WDI is starting to come up with ideas that could be used to make an all new MuppetVision 4D film to replace the old current film which is now 20 years old and revitalize the Muppets attraction once again in California and Florida for the next two decades. I’m told that this idea is one being pitched as part of the second wave of improvements WDI wants to make to California Adventure once they finish the current crop with the opening of Cars Land in 2012. Stay tuned!

I can’t see this happening with 3D becoming more common in your neighborhood movie theater and homes. Besides, I don’t like the thought of the last thing Jim Henson worked on going away.

More Muppets! Yeah!

Replace Jim Henson's last work? Boo!

Of course when's the last time Screamscape was right about anything? (I guess it was the last time they posted rumors that were confirmed months ago by our insiders here.)

I would hope they wouldn't change the show, it was the last project Jim Henson worked on! Why not make some room and build the Great Muppet Ride or a Swedish Chef's kitchen to supplement the show instead of changing a classic?

I agree with everyone about not changing the show... Besides the film quality and such, the movie doesn't feel dated, unlike certain other 4D shows (I love Eo, but BOY is it 80s!). It holds up really well.

Yes to the above. Henson's last work, a great Muppet show.

The new film is yet unproven--here's hoping it captures Muppet magic.
If it does--then audiences are going to be hungry for more, and seeing
this classic is perfect--they don't need to do anything to it.

Fingers crossed that they don't mess with this one.

The only way I'd like the movie changed would be to get rid of Waldo. Surely there is someone within Dis that can figure out a way to use the original Muppet components while getting rid of that annoying, so-not Muppety Waldo. Obviously Waldo was the Disney component to the show and doesn't fit at all with the great Muppet performances.

If they were to replace the show, I'd like to see it look more like you're actually going to see a taping of the Muppet Show in the Muppet Theater and less like you're watching a movie. The characters would be smaller on stage, but the effect could be amazing. Besides, how cool would it be to feel like you're sitting in the audience for a Muppet Show taping. They could even record different acts/segments that could play randomly (like the new Star Tours) so you'd see a different show each time. Heck, they could even add new things to it to promote whatever's going on in the Muppet world (like the new movie, tv show, etc.).

I always thought the genius of the film is that all the Muppets HATE Waldo. Bunson tries to get rid of him almost from the get-go; from that point on just about everyone tries to ignore him, shoo him away, and/or outright kill him. Aside from Bean, they all subtly acknowledge that he doesn't belong in their world and they are just as annoyed with his presence as we are.

The film still holds up, it's still the best "3D Movie" attraction at WDW, it just received a nice refurbishment. Let's leave it alone.

I think Disney would replace the show if the new movie that is coming out does really well. The muppets must nail it for us to get something new IMHO.

Actually, I've found Screamscape to be much more accurate in recent years. It used to post rumors from anyone, but they have much better filters now.

Disney is trying to revitalize the Muppet franchise and there is a new Muppet movie in production, so I could see this happening. Just because MuppetVision was one of Jim Henson's last productions doesn't mean it should stay as-is indefinitely. Eventually, it needs an update.

Correction: It's not one of his final works. It is his final work. His swan song.

Correction: It is timeless. While maintenance is needed and possibly updates to the technology, the contents never need to be changed. Ever.

I'm sorry, but are you "correcting" my opinions with your own opinions? Neither of us are correct. These are opinions. I merely said, quite logically, that if Disney is looking to revitalize what was a failing Muppet brand, a brand new show to market it would be reasonable. That is true.

Correction: It WILL be changed eventually. Nothing is permanent at Disney World. Nothing. ESPECIALLY movie attractions.

Correction: I'm pretty sure his final work would be "one of his final works." It's a great show but it is not Jim Henson's burial chamber.

Point #1: Eventually, it will probably be replaced. WDw isn't a musuem nor should it be. But just as CoP still stands for mostly historic reasons, MV should stand as-is for as long as possible.

Point #2: True, but it is more precise to acknowledge that it is his final work. There is significance in that. When you say "one of his final" it makes it sound as though there are a lot of equally significant works around and this is just one of many. Not so.

Yes, it's opinion. And I was being a bit snarky. But really, there is no reason to change the content of the show. Only the tech will ever be dated.

Disney isn't exactly known for keeping old attractions around simply for the artists' integrity (barring the artistic work from alteration, distortion, or mutilation).

As much as we love Disney for the amazing art, Disney was, is, and always will be - a business. Businesses don't progress by keeping everything the same. When MV is updated/replaced, be it next year or 10 years from now, it would be nice if Disney released the original on Blu-Ray or equivalent, for those of us who do enjoy the show and its significance with respect to Mr. Henson. :)

This is an attraction I still laugh my ______ off every time I see it. I actually like the preshow almost as much as the actual show itself, Sam the Eagle is hilarious. Its one attraction that I don't mind if they are not in a rush the change/update.
