MuppetVision 2???....

It's not going anywhere anytime soon, maybe 5 - 10 years. Disney just spent a lot of money to convert it to Digital 3-D.

We've seen updated attractions before with very short shelf lives with respect to the updates... A recent investment is a good sign of longevity, but does not dismiss the possibility of a subsequent refurb.

Dont get me wrong i LOVE the Muppets have been watching them my entire life. But i highly doubt this one, it seems that a lot of rumors have came up recently for the 2013-2015 range. Does that seem a little odd to anyone else? Maybe i am missing something but why so much now especially after FLE was just announced!!

I’m hearing that give the popularity the Muppets are starting to recieve once again, WDI is starting to come up with ideas that could be used to make an all new MuppetVision 4D film to replace the old current film which is now 20 years old and revitalize the Muppets attraction once again in California and Florida for the next two decades.

Are the Muppets becoming popular again?

Must have missed it...

On this note, we used to be accustomed to Disney doing something new and spectacular every single year. More recently, the Dream and Fantasy have swallowed upwards of $2 billion of investment capital. With Dream complete and Fantasy on the way, that's a lot of money that Disney ISN'T spending anymore, which creates liquidity to do other things.

Not disputing your overall claim at all, but in general, I am unclear as to how a technical upgrade would preclude Disney from updating the show? Any new show would benefit from tech update and it would, in fact, lower the costs of an updated attraction since the necessary hardware is already paid for and installed.

I would hazard a guess that WDW will not push through a new MuppetVision, but if TDA decides that DCA needs to update its MuppetVision (and it is less popular at DCA than it is at WDW), I would bet we would then get a copy, too. At least, that seems to be the pattern of late.

Also, it's a bit presumptuous to say the Muppets are gaining in popularity. They aren't. But, the new film shows tremendous promise, and if it is as well-done as I think it will be given its cast and crew, I think it could revitalize the franchise.

I understand that but its just the AMOUNT of RUMORS and what they are.
Granted they are just rumors but still.....

i thought they hadn't long refurbished muppet 3d? surely they wouldn't go to that expense just to replace it in a few years...
and this year was the first time we saw it, and it was EPIC! they do not need to do anything to this show. it was packed when we went, and i'm sure it packs out on most screenings.

I doubt FLE would make any difference to this rumor. If this is planned as part of a Phase 2 revitalization for DCA, then WDW's plans would be pretty much irrelevant.

As long as they don't have wrong sounding Muppets, it might be OK. The stuff they've done for Youtube lately has been pretty good.

Love that clip.

I'm not sure what to make of this rumor. The original show is pretty close to perfection (with the aforementioned exception of Waldo). It's easily my favorite of the "4-D" shows.

On the other hand, I love the Muppets and it would be interesting to see what else they could come up with. As much as I enjoy the current show, it would be nice to be able to laugh at something that I can't quote every line to.

I absolutely HATED the rumor (thankfully false) that the latest refurb would remove the pre-show, but if the whole production were changed top-to-bottom, I would have to give it a chance.

If this does happen, I think the idea of releasing the current show on DVD would be a great one. There's really no reason Disney couldn't release a recording of ANY beloved retired attraction, but it's especially true for screened shows. The 3-D effects would be lost obviously*, but that's not really the attraction of the show anyway.

* Or would they? Isn't 3-D TV being pushed as the "next big thing"?

For example?

When Journey Into Imagination re-opened after it's first huge overhaul, I bet Disney did not anticipate making additional changes to it in a subsequent refubishment yet again so soon after such a vast overhaul took place. (Yes, in theme park years, it was soon.) Just because money is spent to change something by no means indicates that such a change is indeed "permanent."

True. Some people think that releasing material commercially would deminish demand/enjoyment of the respective attraction, but this is obviously not the case. Shrek 4-D is available on DVD, and yet the crowds keep coming. So too is Captain EO (albeit unofficial, and it's plastered all over YouTube), and Wishes (and other theme park audio) are for sale on Disney CDs. Take Back to the Future, as another example. The movie has been commercially available for purchase for almost 25 years and yet every local AMC theater sold out of tickets for it when it screened here on the 25th year anniversary a couple months ago. :sohappy:

The only way I'd like the movie changed would be to get rid of Waldo. Surely there is someone within Dis that can figure out a way to use the original Muppet components while getting rid of that annoying, so-not Muppety Waldo. Obviously Waldo was the Disney component to the show and doesn't fit at all with the great Muppet performances.

It says there that Waldo is indeed a real Muppet and not a Disney creation at all, as he was on the Jim Henson Hour show.

Sounds Good! I would love to see more than just a new movie if possible, like a themed restaurant or a ride in some capacity or M&G might be nice as well.

This is intriguing... however until one of our insiders chime in on this I'm going to hold off from calling it anything more than Blue Sky at this point.
