Motion Sickness

Hi...I am prone to motion sickness, so there are certain amusement park rides that I have to avoid. I have noticed that taking Dramamine helps some, but what is it about "Star Tours" that makes me sick regardless of taking the medication. Are the visuals out of sinc?

Does anyone have other medication suggesions based on your own motion sickness experience ? Thanks.

I get motion sickness also. I CANNOT do any motion simulator rides. Star Tours, Mission Space, etc. I just avoid those rides when I go. But, on the topic of meds, I normally take Bonine when I need something for motion sickness. Most pharmacies have it OTC, but you may have to ask the pharmacist for it.

Put me on the tea cups, Dumbo or multiple rides on E:E, RNRC and Space back to back and I will be sick as a dog. However, M:S and ST do not bother me. It's kind of weird how everyone is different.

Nothing in WDW gives me motion sickness...But if you put me in a 1st persons view video game and I am sick for hours.

I have the same reaction as the OP. I'm pretty sure with me it's because I'm expecting feel motion but I don't. It's a visual motion simulator. My mind gets wierded out by expecting to feel like I'm moving forward or down or whatever, but I'm not. Just kind of getting shaken around. I haven't found a medication that helps that. Star tours, and Body Wars are the only ones I've had a problem on though. Other rides have been fine, soaring, etc.

Simulators are reliant on your brain tricking your body into thinking that you are experiencing something different to what you actually are. (That's why M:S tells you to keep watching the screen and keep your eyes open, if you closed them you'd realize that you're spinning around) Unfortunately the effect doesn't convince everyone's bodies (or convinces them too well) -hence the motion sickness. With video games people will often feel sick because they aren't moving in the way that the game images are.

The only ride I have a problem with is the Tea Cups. That is until we sat in the front row of Star Tours. I thought for sure I was going to hurl:)hurl:) all over the floor in front of us. It was awful. Of course DH and DD loved it. I told them that we can't ever sit in the front row again. I think I was just too close to the screen. And then after we got out of Star Tours I was hit with a migraine. I have meds for that thank goodness.

I've done every ride at WDW except for Tower of Terror. The only one that's done me in is, believe it or not, Dinosaur. Yes, Dinosaur. No spinning, no simulations, no dips or drops, but it makes me sick as a dog every time. I can't see taking anything and feeling the side effects all day, so I just skip the ride.

I did not feel good after Astro Orbiter. I will not be on that ride again!
Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin is another ride that gets me. I have to be the one to control of the ride vehicle and that helps some.
Ginger should help and I will be taking it during my upcoming trip.
Anyone have any thoughts on how Tower of Terror is with motion sickness?

I once saw a woman getting sick immeditely walking off of Star Tours, that was enough to freak me out and I will never ride it again, even though I didn't get sick. Weird of me.

When I rode Star Tours for the first time in "03" I couldn't wait to get off. Thought I was gonna hurl right there. Was totally messed up for the rest of the day. I am too chicken to try MS because of this. EE will sometimes make me a little queasy on the backwards part depending on where I am sitting on the ride. The teacups, forget about it, I get sick just watching those things go around. The rest of the rides do not bother me. I just take 2 Dramamine at breakfast and 2 about 6 hours later.

Some people get sick from the spinning, or from up-down and side-to-side motion, and others from not being able to predict what direction their bodies are going to move next or have this motion contradict what their vision perceives. Different rides trigger different reactions in people with motion sickness.

I had a boyfriend that had motion sickness, and dramamine did help reduce (but not eliminate) the effects of motion sickness on him. No offense to anyone here, but that's one of the reasons he and I are no longer together; I want someone I can enjoy Disney with, 100%!

There aren't too many rides that can trigger motion sickness, but I'd stay away from these:

Star Tours
Tea Cups
Primeval Whirl

Maybe Dinosaur, though that never seems to do me in. The other 3 do give me problems.
