Motion sickness and the Magic Kingdom Monorail/Ferry

My dad gets bad motion sickness at the mere mention of a boat or a train. Needless to say he won't be going on any rides but he wants to go with his grand kids to the Magic Kingdom (with other adults too). Is there a way for him to get there without using the monorail or ferry?

Where are you staying? If you are driving to TTC, then you have to choose monorail or ferry. Are you staying onsite at a WDW Resort or offsite?

The short answer for local day guests is no, unless you arrange for a cab from the Transportation Center to the Contemporary, and then walk the rest of the way. Resort guests (at almost all the resorts) have bus available.
For the record, it would be pretty rare to have motion sickness on the Ferry across a manmade bathtub with no waves and no current. If his motion sickness is that severe, it requires medical intervention. The monorail can cause more motion sickness.

We are staying at Saratoga Springs. He is probably going to have to take something because the only way he doesn't get sick is if he is in the drivers seat. He swears he gets sick on the USS Intrepid in New York City, which does not float but is fixed to piles, so some of it is psychological. Hopfully seeing the grand kids faces will be enough of a distraction.

i have same problem. i can ride ferry, not monrail. no current in lake like on river in NYC. it also helps me to be at front of ferry, facing forward. i would have him try the ferry once

Well, if you're staying onsite you can take a Disney bus directly to the MK, you bypass the ferry and monorail on the Disney busses. Does he get sick on busses too?

As for the ferry, I get very sick on water but can take that ferry all day and it doesn't bother me in the slightest!

If he hasn't tried the ferry I would suggest trying it. Go up top and watch the horizon. The lake is very calm and the boat is wide and rock solid. If he can handle a bus, the ferry is ten times easier.

I agree with people here about the ferry. The calmest boat ride I've ever been on. Never bothered my mother either, and she was very prone to motion sickness, especially on boats.

I have a friend with severe motion sickness and she absolutely swears by Bonine. Works better than Dramamine and doesn't make you sleepy. I used it on a trip to Europe when we were spending long amounts of time on busses on curvy roads. I found it to be effective. Doesn't solve the immediate problem but might help.

I also suffer from motion sickness on planes, trains, automobiles, monorails and ferries, so I feel your father's pain! As others have said, to get to the MK from Saratoga Springs you can take a bus, so he won't have to take the monorail or a ferry. If your father gets sick on all modes of transportation, then there aren't many options besides taking some kind of medication. I use the less drowsy Dramamine and it works wonders for me. I take one every morning of my Disney vacation and I feel fine the entire day. My husband sometimes gets motion sickness on the roller coasters so he takes one on days when we will be going on those attractions and he feels fine. I hope your dad finds something that will work for him. Getting motion sickness at any time isn't fun, but especially not on a Disney vacation!
