Most incredible thing you've heard when dealing with a Disney newbee.

I'm excited that my cousin and his family are going this year with us. Their first time. His wife asked us not long ago if there was a Disney store there!! We just laughed!

My dh had a student who went to WDW during the school year. Dh is a World Cultures teacher, so asked the student if he enjoyed World Showcase. The student said, "What's that?" Dh learned that the student's family walked into Epcot, looked around and saw buildings instead of rides, and left the park since there was nothing to do there. :(

I've also heard many people say they hate Disney because they spent all day waiting in lines. These are the people that did NO research whatsoever on their upcoming trips--not a clue about rope drop, what the headliners are at each park, how to use Fastpass, etc. They also couldn't believe that they couldn't get a walk up table to places such as Chef Mickey's, Cinderella's Royal Table, etc. because they didn't make ADRs and wasted some dining credits.

Some people just don't get IT. Maybe their brains are wired a different way

I'm looking for some stories of things that you dealt with either by friends that were going to Disney for the first time, had just been or thing that you heard or dealt with in the parks themselves.

Mine was a friend that was going, just she and her husband, for their first trip to Orlando. She knew that I had been many times and wanted my advice. This was a few years back so it was considerably less complicated then it is now. Anyway, I gathered all my books, video's, brochures and paraphernalia together and let them read through it. They made a good choice and decided to stay 5 nights at the Poly. Back then ADR's really didn't exist...you made your reservations when you got there. I also spent one on one time with them trying my best to explain what they could expect when they got there. Long story short...they went and when they returned I asked them how they liked it. The reply was..."it was the most boring time we have ever had anywhere". When I asked why...what did they do... the response I got was. Well, all you do is walk around, there's nothing there to do except a few kiddie rides and a lot of buildings that we weren't interested in. When I asked about PoTC, or HM etc. they just looked at me funny. I said, didn't you go into any of the buildings and they said... No, those were just gift shops and we didn't want to buy anything. So they went for 4 days, if I remember correctly there were three parks at the time and never went in any of the rides or even knew they were there. They must have been listening really close when I talked to them.

They told me that the NEXT YEAR they were not going to waste anymore time or money they were going on a cruise. It wouldn't surprise me at all it they just stood on the dock and waved as the ship left port and came home and complained about how there was nothing to do on a cruise.

I would have ripped her a new one! LOL! I would have told her

"You did it wrong! How could you not even ask where the rides were?! I told you what to do and what to expect and you wasted your whole trip thinking that this is DisneyWorld? Did you even bother to ask anyone where the rides were? You just messed up your own vacation!"

=)

@raven24 That 2nd video was hilarious.

I have heard a few ridiculous things at Disney. One of them I have heard a few times and thats people looking for Jurassic Park at AK. For some reason a lot of people think its there.

My sisters are in EPCOT and give me a call. I ask how they are and how do they like Disneyworld. They said they aren't in Disneyworld, they in EPCOT. They said they walked around and had few margareittas had lunch at Mexico and were just kinda hanging out on a bench. I asked if they had gone to Soarin? What's that was the responce. I asked if they had done the aquarium? What aquarium. I talked to them later. They had gotten in line to do Test Track but had reservations somewhere in DTD. They left and didn't get on the ride.

Someone I know online was planning a trip to WDW. She posted all kinds of really, really dumb questions and comments on her blog. The worst was her wondering if you could take the monorail to Harry Potter. I explained that Harry Potter wasn't at Disney; it was at Universal. She said something like, I thought so but then still wanted to know if the monorail went there. I was like NO, it's a competing park. Disney is not going to build miles and miles of monorails to get there. o_O

I had a friend who went for the first time with his wife and 6 year old son. They just went onsite for five days, out of their fourteen and when they got home they said five days was long enough. He said I thought there was animals to see,I said in AK. Where is that located in MK. Yep,you guessed it.They thought MK was WDW. Never knew about the other three parks.Almost as nutty as one guy I know who got the train for the first time and visited Glasgow, says to me when he got home," What a city,it's covered in glass so if it rains, you don't get wet" He hadn't left the railway station.

Wasn't it? I was dying when I first saw that video!

The classic Universal questions. Where can I buy the Minions?

We had friends ask us to go over everything with them for a trip in May of this yr. They came over the house and I hooked up the laptop to the tv so they could see everthing I was talking about, showing them (this site and other with great info), etc... A week later we were talking to them and you would have thought they were never @ our house. They were staying @ CBR and made dinner reservations every single night in Epcot b/c one of their family mbrs who stay @ the Yacht Club every yr do that.

They called us 10-15 times while there asking how to get somewhere, etc and when they got home, we found out they didn't listen to anything and missed multiple attractions, missed Wishes, MSEP, MMY & Fantasmic b/c every night they had to leave to go to Epcot. AND had the audacity to say they were tired of Epcot by the end of their trip. When we asked how overall they liked the trip, they said "I wish we knew more info before going". Morons.

If a newbie is going to ask for help......then LISTEN!!!!

A coworker of mine was wanting to plan a first trip for her kids. She had been before but a long time ago. She asked me for advice. We got to talking about tickets etc. and she said "But when you go to Disney, you have to go to all 4 places right? The tickets are for specific parks on each day so you have to go to where they say." I was so confused. I finally realized she was confusing a "3 Day ticket" to be for X, Y and Z park only. She didn't know about park hopper and honestly thought that all multi-day tickets are for specific parks and you can't decide which to go to on which day of the pass.

I guess my stories aren't from "newbies" as much as people who just haven't been in awhile and/or are overly optimistic about what they can wait until the last minute to do/plan. For example, my neighbor is going over Christmas and I was talking to her yesterday about the planning. She says, "oh..well most of it's going well. I still have some reservations to make, like for Cinderella's Royal Table and we want to try the new Belle restuarant." My first thought was "uh-oh, how do I tell her the chances of getting either of those are slim-to-none without sounding mean?" So, I said, "don't forget about the princess meal in Epcot and the Cinderella dinner at the Grand Floridian." I'm hoping that when she finds out they're booked she'll remember my back-up suggestions. I'm normally in a panic on day 180-out-from-my-trip! I guess ignorance is bliss...that is until your ignorance ends up biting you in the behind! Hopefully it works out for her, but I'm not holding my breath!
