Most bizarre things WDW has ever done.

While not bizarre. I sure do miss all of the TV specials they used to do for new ride grand openings like Space Mountain at WDW or Splash Mountain at DLR. Fortunately you can find these still on Youtube with a bit of hunting. I mean, the Space Mountain grand opening is at least a 45 minute video with a 2,000 piece marching band that marches out onto the people mover track. Still today, I am amazed at that video. The Space Mountain video. Earnest goes to Splash Mountain. While corny, it still shows what lengths and passion those in charge had for their company and product that they were delivering to the masses.

Point is, now we get some VP or whoever. They walk up to a stage and say a few words surrounded by some characters. Add a bit of small fireworks and ta-da. Open for business. I think that it speaks volumes across the entire company. From new projects that get scaled back. Reduce maintenance (yeah I'm lookin at you Mr. Monorail), etc. Things are done on the cheap continually. I get that they are a business, yada-yada. But, Maybe if they stopped taking large bonuses, etc. and got back to the heart of what Disney is about. Perhaps things could change for the better. Don't get me wrong, Disney is still great and all, I just think they can do better to distance themselves from the competition in the positive direction.

What was the last attraction that gained its own TV special?

Not sure...but in the early 90s, there was a show called "Walt Disney World Inside Out" that would regularly feature new attractions.

Here's Tower of Terror:

And here's an episode exploring New Tomorrowland, Alien Encounter, and Honey I Shrunk the Audience:

Inside Out was my favorite show of all time. I miss it so much.

While not bizarre and not featured at Walt Disney World. For those that visited Disneyland in the past. Does anyone remember the time the MSEP at Disneyland created a birthday cake float honoring Mickey's 60th Birthday in 1988? Does anyone else remember that?

In the Wonders of Life pavilion there was a movie type attraction where Martin Short described the whole "make a baby scenario" Endearing - maybe. Bizarre - understatement.

Nothing more awkward than an early 90s tween version of yourself sitting next to your parents while on summer vacation listening to a comedian tell you where babies come from. Nothing more awkward except maybe the "did you understand all that" conversation with your mom while your dad avoids eye contact that followed while on line for Body Wars.

Yeah. Nothing quite like thinking about Martin Short's parents having sex while you wait in line at Journey Into Imagination.

Do you mean the Scott Herriot Inside Out, or the J.D. Roth/ George Foreman one? Because there IS a difference. One was pure joy, the other was an abomination.

I could not agree with you more. I have all of the Scott Herriott shows on dvd, and watch them about once a year. I was so disappointed with the other show - I thought Brianne (?) was loud, crude, and couldn't care less about Disney. And George Foreman was so stiff, so NOT an actor. Lame series!

One of the ugliest (and most bizarre) things ever done at WDW. Even worse than the Sorcerer's Hat in Hollywood Studios. Worse than the value resorts.
