How would you rate it's replacement, Mission:SPACE?
Let me put it this way. I am not a demonstrative or highly emotional person. I very seldom show or express how I feel about things happening around me, especially to strangers. The first time I rode Mission: Space (about 30 times ago) when the ride stopped I looked up and announced in a very loud voice... "That was Freaking Awesome". As far as being fun and packed with faux participation it is the best thing that Disney has.

No it doesn't have the "sweetness" and warm fuzzy's of most of the other Disney rides, but, it does the story and immerses you completely in it. It got a bum rap due to the unfortunate deaths of a couple of people with problems, health-wise, and created a false sense of fear in many people that, I think, otherwise would have loved it, so they have never dared to give it a try. This is coming from a person that has mostly ridden it while I have been in my 60's.

I liked it just not every year maybe something similar for 50th gold perhaps
Oh, you need not worry. They got so much flack for the Fake Cake from the dedicated Fake Castle lovers that they really have never done anything of that magnitude since then. Why go through all that time and expense for nothing but criticism. Personally, I'm just glad that I was able to experience Disney when it still had that creative push and whimsical attitude uninfluenced by those that cannot stand to see a blade of grass out of place.

They tried it again with the BAH in DHS. That could have been alright and had they removed it after the Celebration of Walt's Hundredth Birthday it would be revered by everyone. The mistakes they made with the Cake was the usurping of the Castle to make it and in the case of the Hat... the location usurping the view of the Theater.

Close off part of our brand new park and hold paintball fights?
Why not!?!

Well I had not idea that was a thing, but very bizarre indeed. Though, other than the Christmas lights, it's probably one of the only things that really utilized that big space (I'm still amazed they never put gift shops or anything to blend in with the fake store fronts).

While not bizarre. I sure do miss all of the TV specials they used to do for new ride grand openings like Space Mountain at WDW or Splash Mountain at DLR. Fortunately you can find these still on Youtube with a bit of hunting. I mean, the Space Mountain grand opening is at least a 45 minute video with a 2,000 piece marching band that marches out onto the people mover track. Still today, I am amazed at that video. The Space Mountain video. Earnest goes to Splash Mountain. While corny, it still shows what lengths and passion those in charge had for their company and product that they were delivering to the masses.

Point is, now we get some VP or whoever. They walk up to a stage and say a few words surrounded by some characters. Add a bit of small fireworks and ta-da. Open for business. I think that it speaks volumes across the entire company. From new projects that get scaled back. Reduce maintenance (yeah I'm lookin at you Mr. Monorail), etc. Things are done on the cheap continually. I get that they are a business, yada-yada. But, Maybe if they stopped taking large bonuses, etc. and got back to the heart of what Disney is about. Perhaps things could change for the better. Don't get me wrong, Disney is still great and all, I just think they can do better to distance themselves from the competition in the positive direction.
