News Morocco Pavilion redevelopment

This would be like saying the Italian pavilion could easily be switched up to Ireland. You’re dealing with opposite ends of North Africa and with very different architectural traditions.
I was talking about the Islamic Architecture

Well, you mentioned Egyptian temples and obelisks, which are ancient.

As for Islamic architectue, though there are certain commonalities between its Egyptian and Moroccan manifestations, there are also considerable differences. The kinds of minarets shown in the last picture you shared look quite unlike their Moroccan counterparts. The same goes for many other features and motifs.

I said to replace distinctly Moroccan structures with these monuments.

The Florida Blue Lounge has found a new home at Marrakesh, beginning September 3rd -

"The Florida Blue Lounge is returning to EPCOT on September 3rd, 2022 for its second year at the EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival. It will be in a new location – Restaurant Marrakesh in Morocco – and will offer lighter refreshments than when it was in the Norway pavilion last year. The emphasis will be on the experiences within the lounge. We were invited by Disney to the EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival yesterday and inside Restaurant Marrakesh to learn more about the upcoming lounge."

"But now the Florida Blue Lounge – which I was told would be open to everyone, but still with reservations – will have activities like getting a henna tattoo. The hours will be noon – 6 p.m. daily."

"A limited number of reserved seats will also be available for the Eat to the Beat Concert Series, which is a terrific perk."

The return of white card privileges. I wonder if I'll need an ACA: Y designation in my digital wallet

That would be insulting to Morocco, considering the King of Morocco sent Moroccan artisans to build most of the pavilion. It wasn't mainly a Disney creation like the other pavilions.
On second thought, KEEP MOROCCO, TAKE AWAY MV AND GIVE US A NEW PLACE!

This thread has convinced me that even the highest levels of artistic authenticity can only do so much to win people over. Until non-Western cultures are better understood and appreciated, the majority of visitors are going to continue seeing the Morocco Pavilion as just some generic exotic Other.

It's not the same as 2,000 BCE Egypt??!??

I feel that growing up in the US, tail end of the Boomers, we were not taught that much about other countries in public school... We learned US History, some basic world history but not much about the other countries...even the ones closest to us like Canada and Mexico... Maybe later generations learned more, but in the public schools we went to in the 70s, there wasn't much focus on other cultures... even regarding Canada, aside from being settled by French trappers, we didn't really learn anything else....lol
So I think many Americans tend to see Morocco as an "Exotic Other"... and this is I believe part of what EPCOT was trying to do when it was conceived...teach everyone a little more about the world as a whole... new cultures, different people etc...

We have this issue in the Canada pavilion as well. Most Americans are just not interested in other countries.

Its not just boomers in the states - I think most nations teach selective history focused on themselves and then only the bits where they were the good guys

I‘m gen X and went to a state school in UK. We learned selective bits about British history - Boudica and the romans, 1066, Tudors and Spanish Armada and WWII. We did do some modern world history (the Cold War) and the history of the American west later on but only if we chose to study history as a subject in high school

What is MV?
Formerly Millennium Village, was utilized during the festivals in 2020 and 2021 for four booths. Huge plot of land between the UK and Canada.

Floridian Gen Z here and outside of a World History class (Ancient Egypt and Europe, a few pages on others if they're lucky) it's not really present in most curriculum.

The regular curriculum doesn't do for cultural expansion for students beyond a foreign language requirement.

Some of my AP classes were more extensive such as AP Art History (about 40 peices of art from non Western cultures; paltry given we had to memorize over 200+ European/American works of art) and from there it would be whatever conflicts the US had in AP US History, but wars don't exactly paint a good picture for cultures.

However I will say that people in my age do seem to be more interested in learning about other cultures (mainly East Asian) which goes hand in hand with the rise of anime and KPOP in pop culture alongside the rising popularity of ramen and boba.

Morocco would be more easily converted into Spain. Andalusia has a strong Moorish heritage.
Uh no....

Yes! I love Spain!
I do as well as I have bloodlines to Spain and parts of N. Africa (though not Morocco, but further east) but I really wish people would stop with this whole "all looks same" when they aren't
