More Tree Issues?

I understand what NextGen is. Unfortunately, it's not near as interesting or as much fun as ground-breaking, mind-melting attractions. I'd plan a trip to see something amazing. Not planning a trip to go see how Disney applied technology to the flow of my trip. That's the point. It's a whole lot of money that could've been better spent. That's my opinion, tho. That's coming from a person who really doesn't care about tech junk or characters knowing my name.

BTW, why can't Disney do a trip app that allows you to pay for stuff via smart phone like Starbucks has? Maybe Disney should take notes. I don't have to wear or carry a bracelet to Starbucks.
A billion and a half dollars on tech junk that will be old news in a few years.

A billion and and a half!

On Nextgen. Stuff nobody needs and most people don't care about. A billion and a half.

Of course the money could have been better spent. They have lost their minds.

Did you take a survey or something?

You must be smarter than them.

Which multi billion dollar global media conglomerate are you running? You seem to be an expert on such things. I'd love to buy up some of your stock.

What most people don't know is that there's a phase 2 to NextGen which is why it cost a billion dollars. In addition to skipping the turnstiles, guests who wear a bracelet get to board a hydrofoil at the TTC.
If that happens I will come here, stand on my soap box, and sing "I Was Wrong". Start holding your breath. LOL!

Next Gen isn't SUPPOSED to blow your mind. It's infrastructure. A platform. It's like roads or computers or accounting software. That's the problem. People are evaluating it like it's a billion dollar attraction. It's NOT an attraction. It's a thousand tiny improvements that will be implemented over time, some that will enhance the guest experience, some that will create operational efficiencies, and yes, some that will assist marketing efforts. I know it's shocking and appalling that a company spend money on such things, but it's all part of 21st century business.
The shocking appalling part is allowing show to suffer to try to get ahead (or shouldn't we be saying "catch up") on your technology. Or, not planning ahead better from the get-go so things don't get stale while you spend a billion or so doing "infrastructure" stuff. Meanwhile, the competition up the road is really slammin the home runs... It's okay to knock the Mouse sometimes. A little ribbing never hurt anyone. ;)

I think the problem people are having with Next/Gen is that Disney themselves is making a big issue about it. If they had just slipped the upgrades in, without making all the fuss, there wouldn't be the discussion that's been going on.
So true. Goes along the lines of a press event to announce additional show seating. Fun stuff!

That's the biggest myth on all these boards. Universal is growing but that's because they were insolvent, i.e. almost bankrupt before Harry Potter. If I open a park and five people come, then the next year ten people come, I can claim I grew by 100%. With your logic, I'm slammin the home runs. Universal went from "failing" to doing "pretty well." Disney has consistently been doing "very well" but they get slammed for little growth. Universal isn't changing and building because they're killing it, they're changing and building because they're desperate and gasping for air.

Wait until Uni's attendance surpasses DHS or AK's and then you'll change your opinion on Uni's progress. Universal is doing very well right now, no need to diminish their accomplishments.

I don't care one bit about attendance. I care about Net Operating Income. Universal has inflated "click" totals because they have a disproportionate number of passholders who are very low-revenue guests. DLR has the same problem.

Edit: It'll never happen anyway. Worl of Disney has higher attendance than Universal Studios.

I don't really care about attendance, income or any of it. I just like a clean, pretty park with good rides. IMO, Uni does a better job there.

I wish Disney had spent their billion and a half dollars on that.

They JUST spent $2 billion on cruise ships. In ADDITION to Next Gen. You act like the NGE budget is the only money being spent by Parks and Resorts. Or ever again. Avatar is coming and it WON'T be just one ride, nor a Soarin' clone.

Off topic: I'm more put off by Universal's employees than any of the park content. I've only had poor experiences with them and finally swore the place off when I heard two food service employees talking about the sex acts they were going to perform on each other when their shift ended. Not what I want to hear while I wait for my chicken strips.

It's bad in both places. A staff member in Disney's club level yelled the F word in front of my son.

Uni is working on the employees, too. They keep improving. Disney's are sliding. They're about equal now...possible edge to Uni.

I'm not big on Avatar. I'm never screaming for expansion, either. Always begging for cleaner, prettier and better maintained. If there is money left, build a cool ride. And not a ride that copies a better ride at Uni. Something new, unique and cool.

That's what I want.

I don't care about cruise ships. That is sweetpee's department. :)

I just realized that I'm in the "More Tree Issues" thread.....how did this thread drift into Next/Gen?
NextGen trees... where the limbs decide, on their own, to break off thus lodging themselves into the heads of the guests! Now THAT is Disney theme park magic (and interactive!)
