More park hour cuts

I don't think so.

I have neither the time nor the desire to prove facts to you (or anyone else).

If you have a specific question regarding hours ... like wanting to know what they were in May of 1985 or July of 1990, for example ... ask and if I have access to the schedules, I'll provide the answers.

But if you don't want to take me at my word on them, feel free to contact Dave Smith at the Disney Archives (it might help if you're a younger guy!) and ask him to check the records. They'll bare out the accuracy of what I am telling you.:hammer::hammer::hammer:

Yep... it is an arrogant response.

All you have to do is pull a few sample time schedules (not related to a major event, Seasonal period, or grand park opening) along with supporting documents, and I will shut up. I've googled historical park times and the furthest that I have seen... (without going past page 7 of the search results)... is 2001 and 2002. Just pick a sample... since you have more access to this information than I, as a 30 year old Financial Analyst, can come up with.

This interested me so I did some of my own research and believe it or not I found some time schedules on this site. Here is a link to one of them. What can I say, I guess I have the time and desire.:lookaroun:D

I guess I should add that this is from 1989. There are some more. If you type "old maps" in the search box on the main page you will see a bunch. The only ones that have some times are the show schedules. I am not sure if it proves anything but I figured I would try and find some old park hours since this seems to be an issue.

Im not saying that WDW1974 isn't who or what he says he is. However if you look at the other sources on this forum they never feel the need to insult others when called out.

the person he was responding to, wannabe@dis, is an extremly rude poster and attacked WDW1974 first. It was only fair that WDW1974 gave him a sharp response after being disrespected.

So it's free now?

No. What you likely mean is they are only charging $25 (or whatever the original fee was).

When the airlines go back to NOT charging for your first two bags, then you can talk to me about it. ... We both know that ain't happening even if oil drops to $25 a barrel.

What I meant, was the fee on United for a Second Checked bag was $50, per this press release at the beginning of September:
http://www.reuters.com/article/rbssIndustryMaterialsUtilitiesNews/idUSWNAB109920080915

But one month ago, they cut they recinded their second Bag fee increase (should have been a little more clear the first time) probably when they discovered charging an extraordinarily high fee for baggage was killing their bookings and worsening their bottom line.
http://www.businessweek.com/ap/financialnews/D94A6I000.htm

On a side note, It would make more sense for airlines to raise the overall ticket price, than to keep creating fees and say it helps offset fuel costs. Just create a fuel surcharge fee, rather than making travelers pay a huge amount for their baggage. Because, just like government taxes, this fee is likely to stick around and will never be completely killed off.

Thanks for the sample times from January & Feb of 1989. Its too bad there aren't more documents like this saved somewhere for folks to easily find.

But my question is if wdw1974 has and can provide some proof about the longer open times of the parks in the past from the '70s and early '80s, I would appreciate it.

I just don't see why it is such a big deal that some of these historical park times can't be posted, if 74 has them available. Besides, it might go a ways to improving how wdw1974 is viewed by other posters.

I'm sure to get flamed for what I just stated, but I mean no ill will. I've just seen far too many negative posts related to what he says on here.

Sorry, I got confused as to what time frame we were talking about. I would also like to see them as well. Historical park hours questions come up a lot and for some reason it is hard to find them. Hopefully he will oblige.

Okay, here is a link to a page that has some hours from summer 1973. It says MK open til 1:00 A.M. Look at summer 1973 prices. You have to scroll a ways down til you start to see pictures of old ticket books. There seems to be a quite a few there.

Yep, I see the 1973 brochure that says from June to Sept 1, they are open from 8AM to 1AM. Thanks.

I frankly think they were ludicrous to be open for that long a time period every day. Yes its the summer time, kids are out of school, yada, yada... etc. But don't folks, especially younger kids, need sleep?

Or maybe they run the park ragged with these hours in order to give the park a solid foothold for the future. Those had to be some ugly shifts for the CM's that pulled the graveyard duty that summer.

I am surprised some geek hasn't put schedules from 1971 to now online somewhere. They aren't that hard to come by ... especially the 80s and 90s. And there are plenty of geeks with nothing better to do.

But my question is if wdw1974 has and can provide some proof about the longer open times of the parks in the past from the '70s and early '80s, I would appreciate it.

The best I can do is try and dig some up and type them up here. But some moron is going to say 'how do we know he isn't lying about the MK being open 9-1 on 8/14/77?' and all the BS will start again.

But hopefully, the intelligent people here (and I believe most are) will believe that I have no agenda other than providing a historical perspective when someone claims something ignorant like 'Epcot always closes at 9' etc ...

But I will see what I can do tonight/over the weekend.

I just don't see why it is such a big deal that some of these historical park times can't be posted, if 74 has them available. Besides, it might go a ways to improving how wdw1974 is viewed by other posters.

I doubt it.

People seem to either like me very quickly or hate me even quicker. And I am not here to win a popularity contest.

I don't say that to be arrogant at all. And, sure, I want folks to like me.

But, ultimately, I'm here because I do have my own unique perspective on TWDC and WDW and probably more experience actually at the parks since 1974 than all but maybe 1-2 people on this site.

You may not like what I say, or even how I say it, but (usually) I know what I am talking about. And I am putting it out there to help the WDWMAGIC community as a whole.

There's no ego trip about being right about Disney-MGM's hours in 1994!

I'm sure to get flamed for what I just stated, but I mean no ill will. I've just seen far too many negative posts related to what he says on here.

You won't get flamed ... at least by me when you post reasonable, thoughtful posts like the one I am responding to.

But after years off-and-on sites such as Micechat and, mostly, LP.com, I am very quick tempered when people jump on me over things they simply have no clue about ... let alone when they tell me I don't.

If that makes me not the most pleasant personality here, then I can deal with it.

Now ... I need to go find some schedules for you and others.:xmas:

Well, first of all summer of '73 was the second summer WDW was open and it was immensely popular, but really those hours were the exact hours (I believe) DL was open back then too.

It made sense then ... and I believe it still does.

Summer is a time for vacation and most normal people I know (yeah, that may have been a shot to some) like to sleep in and party late when on vacation. When I tell my friends about the crazies who get wake up calls from Mickey at 5:45 a.m. while on vacation they say things that ... well, I can't write here.

Summer nights at Disney parks (anywhere) are magical. And there's nothing like spending the morning and early afternoon at a park, leaving for a nice swim or nap during the hottest hours, maybe even grabbing dinner and returning at say 7 or 8 p.m. and knowing you still have 4-6 hours of fun ahead.

I recall earlier this decade when they had July and August closings at 9 or 10 p.m. when the sun didn't even fully set until around 9 ... couldn't help but feel I was being screwed out of magical Disney nights.

Anyway ... those schedules ...

OK ...boys and girls, you asked for schedules and I just came across a bunch ... they aren't in any particular order, so I'm just going to post them as I come across them.

I'll start a new thread with them so people don't have to read 16 pages to get to the history.

And this thread can go back to being about current hours.

Hope this makes your weekend more magical!

I wish I were at WDW this weekend myself.
