MontyMon’s delayed December Trip Report

No, December wasn’t delayed, the TR was!

So, despite all my best intentions of not taking Morgan out of school any more now that he’s in High School, I had a chat with his Vice Principal who told me the school wouldn’t object to a week off until next year when he’s in Grade 11 [a Junior for my American friends]. So… I booked a trip for WDWCelebrations’ “Holiday Hoopla” event.

30 November

We left Ottawa bright and early, flying by way of Dulles to arrive at MCO at 2:30PM. It was a wonderful 85F as we got off the aircraft. We were off the plane and to DME in no time and checked in at Wilderness Lodge by 4. I’d booked a bunk bed room, only to find that Morgan has grown more than I thought and doesn’t really fit in their bunk beds. He complained briefly, but when I offered to see if they had a different room available he said he’d be OK. We were a bit weary from our travels, so rather than head to the parks for a brief visit before dinner, we just lazed around the room and watched all the Disney Resort channel loops until our luggage was delivered. We then unpacked and toured the resort a bit. We had 7PM reservations at Artist Point, so we headed there. We both ordered the Mushroom Soup Appetizer and the Beef Tenderloin steak… Best steak we’ve ever eaten on property bar none! :slurp: After dinner we decided to crash for the night and have a fresh start in the morning.

I can vouch for this! Actually, I can vouch for all of this sentence! A bunch of us met up for dinner August 2009 and Monty started throwing stuff at a nearby table(of course they were with us too)! Then he started getting others at our table to throw things at them! :lookaroun
Why is it your recollection of events never seems to jive with the recollections of any of the actual adults that were in attendance?

You're more than welcome.... But I'm probably technically too old for you [though I am a DOM] and Morgan's likely too young for you. :lookaroun

It may be mediocre, but they're winning...

Ahaha, you're right on both accounts. Might be able to make an exception for Disney trips though, I'd totally fit on one of those bunk beds.

We're not going to beat the States tonight playing mediocre hockey. The Campbell will be better than the Swiss goaltender and I'm having an anxiety attack already.. I need to find a friend with a TV because I CANNOT watch online again. Whein.

Another reason to move in with us... 55" HDTV :king:

Monty! As I said the 1st morning in front of Space Mountain, it was great to meet you in person. Some quick thoughts:

-It seemed like a few people in the group were a bit unhappy we decided to wait for the Cowboy scene at first, but I knew that it was so rare it would be worth it. However I had no idea how many in the group had NEVER seen it.

-The chair incident. How odd. Before I could even react you were on the floor. Just glad you were ok. BTW, did we ever discover if the waitress just propped it back up somewhere?

-Really, she never called Morgan? I thought it was love at first sight.

-I'm so happy to hear a great review of what we continue to do as WDWCelebrations from you. Unlike many other Disney based groups, we are all volunteer and not for profit so it feels great to hear such positive feedback.

-I looked at all my pictures from the event and guess I didn't get one with just you & Morgan. Oh well, here's one of the large group pictures from Epcot.

Hoopla!

  • If I were worried about waits I probably wouldn't do Celebrations' events! As I said, the slower, laid back pace is a big [but nice] change for Morgan and I.
  • The chair was probably the smoothest I've every had a chair break with me on it! After all was said and done, I checked... The two chairs I saw her bring out were solid. I have no idea why she bent my broken one straight before going backstage with it.
  • Morgan will probably sue me for childhood trauma when he's an adult as a result of that harlot not calling! :lookaroun
  • I most certainly stand by my recommendation of WDWCelebrations! Great group of Disney nerds leading a slightly larger group of Disney geeks through the parks.... What could be better? :king: Seriously, it's a lot of fun and getting to meet that many like-minded friends can't be beat!
  • Still a nice pic... except the one lady peeking out from behind another, and Jackie being the only one in the sun! :lookaroun Nice that everybody else cooperated!
  • HOOPLA!

I love reading your trip reports, Monty. They are always so filled with humor and you can just tell how you adore your son. My husband and I always inflict childhood trauma on our daughter. Last trip we skipped down mainstreet and made her do it too. She did it but I think she wrote it down to remember it when she writes her book.

Thank you!

And yes, I adore Morgan. My life pretty much revolves around making him happy and keeping his world as safe as I can.

He's pretty easy to adore though, good, polite, intelligent and handsome as well. :king:

We were enticed by the pumpkin pancakes as well, but never having had the Tonga Toast, we had to do that. Plus, I view pumpkin as more of a Halloween/Thanksgiving food, so after that, there isn't so much allure. Maybe I'm crazy. Tonga Toast did not disappoint. Funny that you went back later for TT!

I had no idea WDWCelebrations was also doing an event that weekend. I think there were no less than 4 groups there at the same time (maybe 5). That's pretty wild.

Sounds like all you WDWMagic'rs had a great time! Like I said before, it would've been great to meet you all, but I doubt my parents would have been too keen on it, and we already broke off from them too many times, so we just couldn't justify it.

Great TR Monty,

Looks like Morgan is a good sport going along on all the trips, looks like he is a nice kid, you are doing something right.

Love that game last night. DW "encouraged" me to watch some silly Hugh Grant movie last night. Little did she know that I was watching the game on TSN on my new Iphone. I managed to keep from jumping out of the seat when our boys scored.

Oh and Monty.... Go Leafs!!

Wearing my Juniors' jersey at work today, getting lots of compliments.

Morgan's a pretty fantastic kid [maybe I'm biased]. I explain to folks who accuse me of spoiling him that my Disney trips are spoiling me, he's just a beneficiary!

The last time the Leafs won the cup I was six months old and in diapers, I figure I'll be in diapers when they win again!!
A realistic Leafs fan? Whodathunkit?

Good on ya, I always knew Newfs had class!

Hey Monty.

I have to say it was great meeting you and Morgan. It's something I had looked forward to for a long time. I think I could have talked another hour and a half. Maybe our trips will overlap again someday. Oh, and Dot is uponastar.

I really need to work on my memory... I remembered Dot, but couldn't put a screen name with her [Sorry Dot].

And I could have talked the rest of the day and into the evening [just about me of course! :lookaroun]. It was wonderful meeting you, your lovely daughter and your husband who did a great job of not killing me for fawning over the women in his life! :animwink:

Right now I only have one trip planned this year, 27 Aug - 5 Sep, but I'll probably either attend WDWCelebrations' Project XL or Grape Getaway [if they do it again].

I wasn't sure how he would response to me telling him I was going to meet a man, but he handled it pretty well.

Finished the book by the way.
