Tyler, haven't seen you in a while, glad to see you here, anyways, I wanted to know what controls were on the panel that now has the coverplate with the WDW Monorail logo?

I've been here... :)

As for the controls... the Horn, PA, and E-Brake are still there. Missing are the speil controls (Rew, FF, Stop, Play, pause, etc), the "Reply" button, and the Test Lights button.

Hey Tyler, is there a previous thread where you posted info such as what kinds of maintenence goes into the monorail system on a nightly (or however often) basis?

I'm just curious as to how the whole thing works and how much it takes to keep these trains going.

Lots of duct tape, rubber bands, paper clips, and bubble gum.

Actually Ty, i don't. It wouldnt suprise me at all.

I've seen duct tape holding together a door on a 737 before. I'm sure people use whatever they have handy to make improvised fixes and simple solutions.

Although you won't find any Bubbleyum on the monorails, I have seen MacGuyver type fixes to the train to keep it in service till full maintanance can be done... Each train is fully inspected at night, and if any maintenance is needed, it's brought back to Shop and done there.

Why knew that the monorail system had so much in common with the Millenium Falcon? (humor)

Well, with the amount of people it moves on a daily basis and the amount of time it takes & logistics it takes for a train to go through a switch, its nice to know the lenghts Disney Transport will go to in order to keep from disrupting the guest's stay.

Thanks for the pics Tyler. I am assuming that is all touch screen controlled?

Very Cool though... it looks a LOT like a on air control console in most radio stations now  :)

I was glad to see the same control thingy in the new pic though, I guess you could call it a joystick.

The MCU (Master Controller Unit) has remained unchanged. I'm sure that will be the next component that is redesigned. The Company that originally made them (at a cost of $10,000 per unit) is long out of business. When they break, they have to be sent out for repair at a cost of $3,000. Since we only have a limited amount, and they can only be fixed so many times, Im sure that will be the next item to be refitted.

Does the driver still have to get out to open and close the doors with the new system, or can they stay seated?

For safety reasons, the door controls will always be on the outside of the train. This way, visuals must be made with the doorways before they're closed, to ensure no one gets trapped.

A few safety features were added -- When the train pulls into the station, it must line up within a certain distance of the "Mark"... otherwise the doors will NOT open. We can also lockout doors, so that they wont open at all... (used in case we can't load a specific car due to a mess, mechanical, or other reasons)

Wow...now I wonder if the new console, when installed into Monorail Lime, will be able to change the white delta back to blue...
