...and you hafta roll the "r".

I'm always amused by people who can't do that. Maybe I've just got a cruel streak. Wouldn't it really suck being born into a Spanish-speaking country with a speech impediment?

LOL!!!

I learned somewhere that there are some sounds you need to master when you are young or you will never be able to do it. That's why people of certain cultures consistantly have problems with the same sounds. Use it or lose it!

Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Here are the lyrics [too Epcot]...still lookin for an mp3.

"Ladies and gentlemen, as you board please move all the way across your car to make room for everyone. For those of you standing, please hold onto the handrails and stay clear of the doors.

Please stand clear of the doors. Por favor mantenerse al lado de las puertas.

As you board please continue moving across your car to make room for everyone. Please offer available seating to those needing special assistance. If you're standing, please hold onto the handrails and stay clear of the doors. They will be closing in a moment. Thank you.

Welcome aboard the Walt Disney World monorail to Epcot. For those of you standing, please hold onto the handrails throughout our journey and stand clear of the doors. For the comfort of others, no smoking please. Thank you.

As we turn south, you can catch a glimpse of the spires of Space Mountain in the Magic Kingdom. Nearby is Disney's A-framed Contemporary Resort. You may also see Disney's Wilderness Lodge, which captures the spirit of the national park service lodges built during the early part of the century.

We are traveling to Epcot. Here at Epcot, nations celebrate human achievement and potential. Its 300 acres are divided into two worlds, Future World and World Showcase. Future World offers fascinating explorations into realms of energy, transportation, and imagination. You'll also find adventures in communications, sea exploration, food production, and other vital topics. World Showcase is a community of nations highlighting the accomplishments in cultures of people around the world.

On the banks of the 40-acre World Showcase Lagoon are Mexico, Norway, China, Germany, Italy, The American Adventure, Japan, Morocco, France, the United Kingdom, and Canada. Young adults from each nation represented in World Showcase are among your hosts making this a true international exchange.

Walt Disney World invites you and your family to celebrate the dawn of a new millennium. From October 1st, 1999 through January 1st, 2001, we're hosting the most memorable millennium celebration on the planet.

Epcot is at the heart of this international celebration with a fantastic festival of exciting non-stop entertainment.

Please stop by Millennium Central near Spaceship Earth for the latest show times and information. This is also the central location for Millennium pin trading where you can exchange commemorative Millennium celebration pins with Disney Cast Members and other guests from around the world.

At Millennium Village, you will discover the cultures and accomplishments of people from many nations. This global village recognizes the role of cultural heritage by preparing the world to meet the challenges of the new millennium.

Guests and performers are united in song, dance, and percussion in Tapestry of Nations, a colorful twilight procession enveloping World Showcase. You become part of the celebration in this moving spectacle of sight, sound, and emotion.

Our daily celebration ends with Illuminations 2000: Reflections of Earth, an all new nighttime entertainment spectacular that depicts the entire history of our planet from the moment of creation to the dawn of the third millennium.

A millennium milestone only happens once every thousand years so don't miss this one. Join us here at Epcot as we reflect on the past and celebrate the future hand in hand.

The glass pyramids are the gateway to your journey into imagination. Inside you can find the 3-D adventure, Honey I Shrunk the Audience. Join Professor Wayne Szalinski as he receives the Inventor of the Year Award for his incredible shrinking machine.

Next is The Land, where you'll discover creative partnerships between people and the land around the world.

In The Living Seas, you can descend via hydrolators to Sea Base Alpha and navigate the largest, most spectacular coral reef environment ever created by human kind.

Ladies and gentlemen, we're approaching the Epcot monorail station. Smoking is not permitted at Epcot except in designated areas. Please consult your guide map or ask a Cast Member for the location of designated smoking areas. Please hold onto the handrails and stay clear of the doors until the monorail stops completely and the doors open. On behalf of the Cast of the Walt Disney World Resort, we'd like to welcome you to the Millennium Celebration at Epcot.

Ladies and gentlemen, please remember to collect your belongings and take young children by the hand. As you exit, please lower your head and watch your step. Thank you."

It's not amusing. Do you laugh at handicapped people too?

Actually, you don't trill the r in puertas. Only trill double r's and words that begin with r. And I'm one of the pathetic who can't do it! I had to fake it thru 5 years of Spanish classes.

115 days!

If there's an r in a spanish word you have to trill the r, but is not that difficult once you get use to it.

"Por favor, mantenganse alejados de las puertas"

Oh, sure, watching someone try to get around in a wheelchair is a barrel of laughs.

Come on, now, there's hardly a correlation between physical deformities and someone who can't roll their tongue. Every person has something they're not good at; that doesn't equate to a "handicap."

And I do recognize the difference between real speech impediments and just not being able to make a certain sound. I was referencing the latter in that post.

'Twas a joke, nothing more. I promise I haven't pushed a handicapped person down a set of stairs in nearly a month. (That's sarcasm, folks, in case I have to say it.)

No, babe, you don't trill them all. Just the firsts and the doubles, which are a separate "letter" in the Spanish alphabet. You must not realize you are speaking to the Foreign Language Field Day Spanish III Spelling Bee Champion of Northeast Florida! Try to control your trembling.

Stepharoni is right, only RRs are trilled.

However, the saying really is "Por favor, mantenganse alejado de las puertas."

It is NOT EXACTLY the same as the English. It actually translates "Please keep yourself away from the doors. "

Mantenganse comes from the verb mantener, to maintain. Mantengan is the conjugation used for a command, and se makes it reflexive, adding the "yourself." Alejado is an adjective meaning distant or remote, or in this case away. De means of or from, and of course las puertas means the doors.
