Monorail beam cleaning in Epcot - looks fantastic

Good God, YES! :sohappy::lol::sohappy: THAT would be fantastic.

Where is that!? I'm slightly freaking out, now.

Try this then. This is very possible. The tech exists and could probably be done wirelessly except for the electrical connections. And SSE has the added advantage of having a reflective surface. So it could have even crisper resolution.

Mind boggling. :dazzle:

EXACTLY what I envisioned, though it would take a ton of LED diodes to line the triangles.

Pin points would be MUCH more realistic.

Actually with modern LED's you could light an entire segment of the panel by lighting it indirectly. So instead of seeing a point of light each segment would light up and create a substantially larger "pixel". By doing so the surface would look much more like the globe from illuminations but with even greater resolution. Even better resolution than the video I posted.

You are the LED expert...and yes, I understand. All for this.

When can we have it installed by?

They might wait for OLED technology or something similar. That would allow each panel to emit light rather than reflect it. That would essentially turn SSE into a giant television. Maybe they are waiting for that.

That would be even more amazing.

Funny, that was the original plan in the late 90's, for RoE. When they realized that it wasn't feasible at the time, they made the Earth Barge.

Maybe we are close to this innovation finally being realized. :D

It isn't one of those things that I thought they obviously needed to address, but now that I see the clean beams next to the dirty ones, the difference is striking.

They did look grubby in November, what is it rubber off the wheels?

Its mostly the grease in the underbelly of the monorail. Hasn't been cleaned ever. At least from what i can find. They have to grease and oil the underside all most every night, a lot of moving parts.

Eh, maybe I am in the minority here, but I happen to like SSE the way it is.

Elegant, grand, understated and classy.

Not all flashy and glitzy like some holiday tart of an ornament.

There is something to be said for quite dignity as opposed to flashy screaming 'look at me'

You have company in that minority. I do not mind external lighting but SSE needs no LED bling.

I would rather keep the Earth Barge.
Me too.

I agree with this, as well. I wouldn't want these effects running all night. Maybe a gradual change, or just for "shows" at certain points. Like with the FoN or RoE.

Re converting the SSE shell to a giant TV the idea is intriguing, but given the companies recent ability to defer maintenance I would hate to see them install this only to neglect it into oblivion. Ever seen the Earth barge with entire panels out? I have. Granted I believe they are out of this phase where they don't usually address problems, but that mentality could easily return.

The beam ways look so much better clean. It certainly gives the area where they have been done an aesthetic boost.

I would think they could mount pressure washing nozzles on a frame that bolts to the ungodly loud tractors and clean a bit easier/faster.

This was my main complaint about the wand being there. Took away from what I thought the natural beauty of the structure was.

Well, they did just refurb it.

Purity is beauty.

:)
I think the images that Rob provided for us are quite pure, don't know about the TV idea, though.
