I just watched a ride along and wow, that is some attraction. The building must be huge.

I agree that is a bit much for Moana.
In person it is a little overwhelming...the sets tower over you...and the way the vehicles move...it is like you never stop movingand turning... like a dance... It is a beautifully done ride....And if they wanted to tell a BIG STORY about Moana, it would be great tech...as long as it donesn't rely soleley on projections...

Totally forgot about this with everything else announced. Why couldn't this be happening instead of Cars??!

Well, it wasn't an either/or. If it weren't Cars, it presumably would have been Coco but they seem determined to do BBTM as a location for the next expansion at MK. I don't think Villains gets announced without a Phase 1 for BBTM

I would think they will have a destination D23 next year in Orlando - could it be possible this (or something else like a TLK ride) could be announced there? I know historically they haven't used that for announcements of such substance but it's plausible if they are really going to do the $60B parks investment (and $17B in WDW) over the next decade.

I assume they want to see if the franchise is more than a one hit wonder with Moana 2. Which is ultimately a fair play, but also immediately gets contradicted by the fact they announced an Encanto ride so....

Wrong place wrong time?

It's hard to imagine a franchise with as much clout after one movie as Moana - its basically Frozen lite in terms of popularity from one film. The viewing numbers on Disney+ for the films are ridiculously strong and consistent.

This is just my opinion, but I think Disney is ready to pull the trigger for the Moana attraction…. I feel like they just diverted the funds to fully flesh out Beyond Big Thunder & Monsters. It’s fully possibly that this is announced in the next year or two.

Seems like some top people at Imagineering are really obsessed with projects that never got greenlit in the early 00s. We got villains land and monsters door coaster and if you look at the concept art for Fire Mountain it was originally based on the animated movie Atlantis but can easily be repurposed as Moana.

im pretty happy. Hopefully we get an actual new Tomorrowland for both DL and WDW too

They screwed up and announced blue sky plans for BBT two years ago, so their hands were tied. If they didn’t announce villains/BBT people would have felt lied to.

I think BBT is too much investment going to MK to add another expansion at the same time.

I don't think the Imagineering Team are obsessed. Villains is brought up in surface because of Dark Universe, Monstropolis is basically a last IP Land they never made that would make it exclusive and actually be on equal level to Cars Land at DCA than Toy Story Land ever able to try. They didn't decide to bring Cars Land to DHS and neither looked into Villans going there instead of Magic Kingdom so what is left picking another thing that was in between amongst the early additional plans for another land(s) for Hollywood Studios.

That makes me think, a Fire Mountain could still happen- Te Ka was a huge part of Moana after all. Just make a volcano and have Te Ka inside it and boom, perfect. Maybe a boat ride instead of a roller coaster though.

Looks like Tomorrowland and Imagination are on the cutting room floor for another 5+ years... Along with Moana Mountain, Coco, and Wonders Of Life... And I guess the first thing to open that was newly announced will not open until 2027... Maybe they will open it in tandem with the Cake Bake Shop...lol
