MNSSHP and MVMCP 2016 prices released

Wishful thinking that it will lessen crowds in any way. If they don't sell out (which is unlikely) they'll just discount the tickets to get rid of them like they did with the overpriced evening event.

We reluctantly attended the Christmas party this past year. It was a fun night, but certainly not worth to us what we paid, which looks like a bargain now.

We were considering our first Halloween party trip this fall before our AP's expire. I'm pretty sure this puts an end to that idea. We can afford it, but we can also spend a week in Universal for what renewing our AP's will cost. We haven't been there in more than a decade, so it seems like the right time to break rank and see what else is out there. It honestly saddens me, but it is what it is.
Understand completely! We're debating waiting on purchasing tickets in hopes that they DO decide to extend AP discounts into our trip. Not holding my breath but we have a couple of nights to choose from AND if all else fails, watch for the first one to sell out and then jump in.
(Our APs expire in Oct as well and will see if/what they change there too to decide if we're going to renew....planned this trip where they expire the day we leave)

I can easily see both sides of the issue here, but I like what another member recently said in a different thread. Essentially, it's not a matter of how much or how little it costs, or how amazing or dull the quality is. If something costs more, then you simply decide if it's worth it to you, then you SAVE for it. Plan it into your budget. If paying an extra $25 a ticket for a family of four means finding a way to put aside that extra $100 before my trip than I had originally budgeted for, I would simply plan for it. If I'm planning a trip a year out, and if I feel the extra event is worth the money, I'll save for it, put $10 a month aside ($2.50 a week? I can find a way to do that) for the added cost to the tickets from previous years' prices, and really not complain at all about it. If I feel that the quality of the event isn't worth the price, I'll look at some other offerings around property. There are two different debates going on: One is about whether the quality of the event has decreased, and the other is about the raised prices. It is really quite easy to argue all sides on this. So really, if it's an event I enjoy, and with my knowledge of Disney and their prices, I'm not going to really sweat paying the extra. As I told my wife before our trip last Dec., you are going to ruin the enjoyment of the trip if you go onto property thinking, "This burger/bottle of water/churro/parking fee/park ticket is HOW much???", so accept the reality of the prices and plan accordingly. But NOBODY'S opinion is really wrong in this matter.[/QUOTE
I agree. Very few people are in the bracket of money is no object. Most of us experience holiday envy to some degree or other. When you fly economy you wish you could be in first, when you stay in a 3 star you long to be in the 5 star next door, when you are in the five star you think how great it would be to have the villa instead of the standard room. It is all about deciding what you are prepared to spend and the things that are most important to you. For most of us it is a long stretch of saving and planning and then making choices because we can't afford to do it all. The Halloween party is not something we have done before and yes I do think it seems very expensive but as we probably won't be back for at least 5 or 6 years we want to expèrience it. Maybe we will feel it is a one off because of the price- we certainly feel that way about discovery cove - glad we did it, loved it, but a lot of money and we will put it down as a once in a life time experience. I am looking at the amount of spending money I have and trying to decide what the family will enjoy the most and get value out of but that is bound to be different to what other families value and have already done before. Disney are amazingly good at extracting money out of us all because they offer experiences we would all love to do. I wish I could take the moral high ground and refuse to pay for any extras because I am already spending so much but the truth is I want to come away without any regrets. If it is high up on my families wish list, as the Halloween party is, I will cut back in other areas so that we can do it. I wish the prices were such that everyone could enjoy and experience all of Disney but realistically that is never going to happen. We are fortunate in being able to visit and have a really high quality holiday but there are always going to be things I can't afford. Let's hope that they pull out all the stops and make Halloween spectacular!

I'm beginning to wonder if those families that still want to go to this as these prices MAY begin to consider 1 less day of park tickets and use that at the resort by the pool etc and then just go to the party at 4 when they can get in.

If that happens that is a win lose equation for Disney

I have an AP but I'm doing something comparable: I'm hanging out in DS that day before the party. If I had tix I'd do exactly as you suggest. Entering at 4 and staying to midnight gets you 8 hours anyway. I definitely wouldn't waste one of my park admission days on party day.

Besides, it would be a very long day to be in a park during the day then do the party.

According to many insiders the 1 day ticket is the most popular admission media at WDW.

Which means at its most expensive day (10/31), the party ticket is equivalent to one day's admission. That's probably their reasoning for the price increase right there. Any other party day is less than that but still has an increased price. Simply put, don't purchase a one day's admission on party day.

While sales are "limited", the limit is much higher than 19K. It might have been 19K once upon a time, but not anymore.

The ride lines are short because no ones there for rides. They're there for characters, shows and candy.
Really, we went last year and the ride lines were not short at all. They have upped the capped attendance compared to when i went 5 years ago. it was way busier.

Just read through the whole thread and man are there a lot of opinions here. While I can see a side for almost all the stances, there are a few thoughts I had whole reading

1) It seems to me the same people who are reminding everyone that Walt wanted Disney World to be a vacation for everyone would also be the first people to march themselves to Guest Relations and complain about crowds on a normal day in The Magic Kingdom. Crowds would only double or triple if Disney was truly a vacation that everyone could afford (not to mention an even more prominent decrease in quality in the parks from less $).

2) I realize this is a Disney forum so this might be weird point but I constantly wonder why I don't see the same criticisms for Universal who have just as expensive (if not more) one day park tickets. As well as charging just as much for food and some other certain experiences.

3) When talking to people who are visiting Disney for the first time, most of them are just excited to be there. None of them seem to be overly worried about prices (more than you would at any other place). I see a lot more of the gripes coming from AP and DVD than anyone else. Maybe this can be attributed to the fact that we've seen Disney during cheaper times.

4) The most heartwarming thing to notice is how many people are passionate and committed to the future of Disney (no matter where that may be). It's awesome to see people come together and be willing to share their opinion so openly to try and incite change and keep this company going for years to come.

This post wasn't meant to target anyone specifically or get anyone's knickers in a twist. Just a few observations I had while scrolling.

1) The increased attendance seems to be foreign visitors. That's because they(WDW) throw them very seductive offers.

2) We do criticize Universal. However, they seem to be plussing things, something that Disney used to be king at.

3) That's correct. We're not "noobs" anymore, so we know the score on pricing and value.

4) Absolutely agree. We LOVE Disney, otherwise we wouldn't waste our time being here or voicing our concerns.

We reluctantly attended the Christmas party this past year.

How do you "reluctantly" attend? It was your choice, and as best as I can tell, nobody from Disney was twisting your arm and reaching into your wallet.

We can afford it, but we can also spend a week in Universal for what renewing our AP's will cost.

Uh, your APs will last for longer than one week, regardless of which one you buy.

What's disgusting is ISIS killing people left and right.

This...just kinda stinks.

Um...obviously I meant that in the context of discussing the price of a theme park ticket on a message board about theme parks, not the world at large.

And I'm sorry, the price of these tickets nearly doubling in a mere 5 years is disgusting to me. Hooray for those who see absolutely no problem with it. No no one is forcing anyone to buy these tickets. Just another in a long list of reasons I won't be going anymore. I can still afford it, but the cost of a WDW trip is rapidly becoming what would be a foolish expenditure for me, compared to even 3 or 4 years ago. The value is no longer there. People are really ok with a ~25% increase in a year? At a place that is experiencing record attendance? Mind boggling.

Cool

And if demand for these events continue to increase each year, so will prices. Ah, such is life.

And like you said, you make your own determination as to whether there is still value.

I say reluctantly because we made a special trip to see the Osborne lights, and forking out nearly $300 for our family of four for MVMCP wasn't high on my list. I really couldn't justify the cost then, and I certainly can't now. You're absolutely right that it is a choice, and Disney is making it much easier for me to say no.

I also understand that an AP will last longer than one trip, but again Disney is making it more difficult to justify multiple trips in a year. It's not about Universal being better, it's just that I'm finally considering my options, and I don't think I'm alone.

In a matter of a few brief years, the WDW vacation we have become a custom to has moved beyond our grasp. We have moved from delux, to moderate, to value - all in trying to stay on property to retain the quickly-dwindling resort guest perks. The next step will be staying off property so we can afford the growing list of add-ons.

We'd probably be in the same boat if not for the fact that we bought DVC in 1999. We filled our DVC condo with lots of food so we could minimize the cost of eating in the parks, and used all our Disney credit card reward dollars. I'd say we spent far less out of pocket than the typical Disney guest for this trip, even when you factor in our DVC maintenance on our points.

Still, it bums me out because I've always felt DVC provides the best value when you use it at WDW, and I don't see us visiting WDW nearly as often in the future.

I'd argue that there's the third bit which is WDW selling the park multiple times during the day. For these events they're closing the park earlier than they normally would and these events are now 4/7 nights. Yeah, you could still see the park at night on one of those 3 nights if you're there and your schedule lines up correctly or you could just buy the party ticket and not go during the day and hang out at the hotel. The problem, though, is that they've made it fairly common to sell the parks multiple times a day (morning, regular hours, evening events) and that, IMO really diminishes the value of the regular ticket and adds another cog of complexity into the wheel of visiting WDW. Now you have to try to plan around these extra, paid for events. Easiest thing: Pay 2 or 3 times to visit the park that day. It leaves a bad taste in most people's mouths, though.

Very good point. I can see that being a valid frustration for people.

I think the company may feel that since they DO offer Extra Magic Hours, it kind of balances out. At least if they are offered at MK on the same days when they have the events. That, of course, only benefits those staying on property though.
