Cards sign free agent SS Jhonny Peralta. Just a few weeks after playing in the WS they've replaced 3 players in their starting lineup and moved 2 more from one position in the field to another.

Tigers trade starting pitcher Doug Fister to Nationals for 2B Steve Lombardozzi and LH pitchers Ian Krol and Robbie Ray.

Ray must be the key to this for the Tigers, even though he's never played in the majors. He's rated as a pretty good starting pitching prospect. They're also reducing their payroll more with this move.

Red Sox signed AJ Pierzynski so it's highly unlikely that Saltalamacchia will be re-signed.

Tigers signed Joe Nathan, formerly closer for Rangers and Twins.

I only went to one Os game this summer. They had a big lead but Johnson blew it and they lost.
I remember that game. I might have been there too. He's blown WAY too many saves. I mean, I've seen some of his saves, but I get nervous when he goes out there because he'll either make it or blow it big time.

Besides, if they had gone into arbitration, he would have asked for 10 million. We have more important guys to spend that kind of money on. Like Machado, Weiters, Jones, and especially Chris Davis.

I hate the Ellsburry deal. Too much money and too long of a contract for somebody who is 30 and seems to be hurt too much

I agree - they're betting he'll have a few more years like 2011. I wonder how this affects their chances of re-signing Cano or upgrading their starting pitching. Those should have been higher priorities.

But if they could steal one of the Red Sox's players, they would drop everything and do it, which is what they did

The Royals traded Will Smith  to the Brewers and the Dodgers re-signed Brian Wilson. They must value their versatility.

There was (true story) a girl on my daughter's soccer team named Selena Gomez.

There was also a very minor move today by the Mariners:

The signed some shlub named Robinson Cano. If they really want to contend, they should sign someone with a name, right?

Big news. Some people thought he was just bluffing in negotiating with the Mariners and would end up back in NY.

Speaking of NY it looks like the Mets will sign Curtis Granderson.
