Rumor MK Space Mountain REVISED in 2026? (One track? side-by-side seating?)

Cosmic Rewind isn’t sending empty seats.
(Well, sometimes it is. I just rode it on a night when there were a number of empty seats. Granted, it was fairly late, and they have now decided to end the VQ. If not for the VQ that night, I totally would have done a re-ride.)

I agree that the facade will be fine, but I honestly think at this point, the only true safe things are figment, mansion, and pirates with the merch they sell. It’s become obvious that at Walt Disney World, nothing is sacred. If they can get away with muppet *vision, they can get away with anything.

It’s the hope that kills you moth. Not now. I don’t think.

Although I could hypothetically you know what getting pushed up as an “we’re sorry” olive branch to the fandom for how mad they’ve made us. But that’s just me.
Muppetvision? Seriously? That’s the sacred cow? Not the major E tickets or the whole river that’s been there since opening?

I’d guess the exterior discussion is not just looks and upgrades, but also one of practicality.

I wonder what kind of access they would need to accomplish what they want to do. But that isn’t even clear yet.

No it wouldn’t. That problem would still exist with the current set up. They can easily fill every seat despite odd numbered groups. Cosmic Rewind isn’t sending empty seats.
They did one morning. My BG was called during early entry and there were a total of 2 people in the preshow room including me.

Ugh, I’ve waited a long time for this. But I’m not totally onboard with the new single track idea. The inline rockets and dual-track system, I mean say what you want about it but I just really like it even in comparison to the other versions, and it’s also why I appreciate Matterhorn Bobsleds. I honestly feel it could be even better than the Anaheim and Hong Kong locations if they just retracked both sides and added new projection effects and onboard audio, because then it would be along the lines of the great ride experiences of those two but with actual drops. IMO replacing it with a brand new layout would disrespect the OG Space Mountain. But then again, welcome to modern Disney. Nothing is sacred.

I think one thing that isnt being brought up enough is the redundancy that two tracks offers. It is rare we see space mountain go down for a longgg time as a whole becuase they can work on the one track (off hours obviously) while the other one can continue to operate. Also if true this almost certainly means a lengthy closure of the peoplemover which is a big people eater itself. I feel like this would be more likely to worked on after some notable capacity is added either with a new attraction in stitches place or maybe even waiting untils cars is done.
Regardless of what happens, upon opening, the new cars attraction and villains land will undoubtedly make tommorrowland look even more dated than it is right now, akin to how SGE made animation courtyard look even more like a sore thumb than it already was. Even new fantasyland I think started this awhile back considering you can see one area from the other.

I’d take this rumor with a grain of salt. I don’t foresee Disney having any desire to not only replace the track (they do have this desire), but to also demolish the entire inside in the process. They would have to destroy the large room queue, the loading stations, the entry points of the coaster, everything. A retrack is a given, but everything else? I’ll believe it when I see it.

Could be, but I doubt Disney would penny pinch to the point of losing valuable capacity for a refurb (maybe I’m naive though!) I looked it up and there was something about a cell phone ban on Space Mountain - my guess is they’re going to try for a track that protects against projectiles.
If they are charging the seats to be two per row then wouldn’t the capacity stay the same?

Ugh. Another classic ruined.
I agree. At this point it feels like those in charge don't care and from the responses of some of the younger fans they don't either.
So improving the comfortability of a ride thar is 1) due for a retracking anyway given it’s age and 2) that people of all ages have been complaining about for well over a decade due to how poorly it has been aging is…ruining it? DL’s refurb took it from being the same uncomfortable outdated back breaker MK’s is and turned it into one of the best rides at any Disney park on either coast. Some TLC can go a long way on these old coasters.

I'm all for refurbing older attractions. In fact I'm all for changing the layout and making a more intense coaster.

My quote was more in general in how newer fans and those in charge don't care as much about what the theme of a land or park is.

For one, no part of the roof would need to be “taken off”.

There’s also not a huge amount of space inside (no pun) for a layout that’s hugely different to today. Factor in the queues, exit, WEDWay tracks, WEDWay garage, coaster BOH, a shape that has to conform to the building slope and footprint, required clearance from projections, ancillary areas at ground level etc etc and what we have today is a perfect use of the available space.

It needs a LOT of love but shouldn’t try and be something it isn’t. And it’s nearly 20 years since the track replacement was planned.
