mk attraction update...

Noooo - the same layout was always the plan. The grand plan was for new track to replace all the 1975 main ride track. Imagine the current attraction, but super smooth in brand new cars with enhanced visual effects and a synchronised score.

It`s management who are now trying to take this away. Idiots.

Good God!Do they want Uni to win?

What's WRONG with them???:brick::brick::brick::brick:

I understand now that it was always the plan, I had just hoped they would go with a brand new layout which would have forced them to update the entire attraction. My whole point is that by not going with a brand new design, the twin track retro-fit allows management to default back to original design elements and it is too easy to scale the project back. And if someone (usually bean counters) can scale something back they will. It is in a "bean counters" job description. Problem is it is incredibly short sighted and is BAD business at someplace like WDW. So we are probably going to get another un-disney SSE type refurb. And WDW will continue to "decline by degrees". :(

I'm graduating from bean counting school early next year. Petition for me to be hired at WDW and you guys will have someone on the inside!

I actually read a blog about a year ago that claimed Disney was adopting a new business model that would scale things back at WDW so that Universal would not seem so mediocre. So instead of Uni elevating it's standards it made more business sense for Disney to become more "average" and thereby help Universal and the overall health of Orlando's tourist industry improve. I laughed when I read it but now I am beginning to think the blogger was right and this is Disney's strategy. If it is true it is disgusting (and quite un-American too). :brick:

Dude, you and I both know that that makes NO sense.

I blame the managment...Do they even have a reason to do this?

You have to replace both at once. The supports are the same as previously mentioned. Also, you can get a bigger crew to work both sides at once. Why would anyone think to close it twice? That dosent make any sense!

Hey, it was a thought. Park ops seem to be willing to do everything backward and wrong to keep the ride open as much as possible. As a general rule, if it makes sense, they won't do it.

Well, Im not gonna say that Space doesnt need work, but I am gonna say that its not like it suffers from any attendance problems. I know it is the big thrill at the MK, so in a way the people who want thrills are gonna cling to it, but I think if they were to keep its current state open for another 5 yrs or so, attendance would never go down. So maybe management has caught on to that. And they may think that if Space does close down, people may not go or want to go to MK with such a major thrill ride closed.

All I know if Space is closed for a year and a half, I want to make some more trips down there this year before it closes, because I will have no interest in going back to WDW with Space down.

The much-needed extended refurbs have proven only one thing:

The park needs another high-capacity E-ticket.

Management is concerned about the impact a long SM refurb will have on park operations, but it's their fault for going 16 years without adding a significant attraction to the park! In fact, they've only taken popular rides away with either no replacements (20K, Skyway) or unpopular ones (Tiki NM, Stitch).

Don't get me wrong; the entire park will be refurbished, new attractions are on their way, and SM's refurb will probably turn out all right. But this is all too little, too late. Did any of you visit the MK during the PotC, HM, or extended Splash Mt. refurbs? Even slow days felt busy because the lands lost high-capacity attractions.

Your right, but the way management is you could have 5 more E-tickets and they would probably still freak out and complain

SM really needs a rehab -- it broke down friday big time and maintenance even removed an entire station brake and had it up on the loading platform

I have absolutely no idea if this means anything at all, but I've noticed over at least the past month or so the side of Space Mountain facing away from the park hasn't been lit. Could this have anything to do with upcoming major refurbishment?

Unless they are removing the roof so they can do work,I don't see why I wouldn't be lit.
