Been there :rolleyes: My dad worked a factory job all his life, and it was STILL too much to qualify for aid, other than loans and work study.

I think the math tutoring sounds like a possibility.
It's so ridiculous - they look at your earnings, but not your debts. And since we are 1/3 owners of MIL's house, apparently that makes us millionaires!

Actually that's one of the things on my list. I had worked for the Huntington Learning center here before, which is similar to Sylvan, and that paid well and I basically set my own hours, so I want to go talk to them tomorrow.

That sounds like a good idea. They may have some summer programs for people who need to get caught up with math.

We both still have ours on deferment....Med school + PA school= a whole heck of a lot of loans.
I bet! I tell ya - I can't wait until I write my last check! Then I'm going to do everything I can to pay for my kids college before hand so they're not stuck with $24,000 in student loans!

Grrr.....

The problem with that is that the cost of a college education inceases so much faster than you can save.

Down with Sallie Mae!

They are my least favorite! The completly messed up my consolidation loan:fork:

Saving for us is just not realistic. We've never been good at saving (and no, I'm not proud of that), but Joel may or may not live with us the rest of our lives; I can't predict his future either behaviorally or medically, but I do know it will not be inexpensive. So, as a result, Abby loses out and we have to hope and pray her grades will help her secure academic scholarships. And yes, I feel very guilty about that. :(

You can pay yours off - it just takes time. By January, it will have taken us two years to pay that sucker off! :rolleyes:

Aw... Jenny you're doing all you can. Your kids will look back years down the road and see how much you've done for them and feel so grateful. {{hugs}}

We each have so much that it qualifies us for the 30 year payment plan (and that is for each of us...not our loans combined together)... I can't even imagine paying on these things for 30 years.:eek:

You'll get 'em paid earlier than that. If I just paid the minimum who knows how long mine would have stuck around. You'll do it! ;) Especially with more of an income to work with.
