Drama at work - I might as well work at General Hospital...

So I put together the monthly newsletter that goes out to employees, volunteers, physicians, board members, etc... Every May we include photos of recent graduates (high school or college). They can either be employees or employees/doctors' children or grandchildren. WELL... "Ashley's" mom just called me saying, "Um... did someone submit a photo of Ashley so-and-so? Because I'm her mother and I think Ashley's step-mother may have submitted a photo."
Me: "Um... let me check." *looks through 50+ photos* "Yes, we have a picture of Ashley"
Mom: "Was it 'Christie' who submitted it? That undermining tramp. Well, I was going to submit a photo of Ashley (NOTE: photos are due on Friday and they've known for a month and a half to start submitting photos) but 'Christie' had to go behind my back. Well, what are you going to do?"
Me: "Would you like to submit a different photo?"
Mom: "Well, I just don't think I want Ashley's photo in the newsletter at all. I think, as her mother, I just may have you take it out completely b/c I didn't want 'Christie' submitting a photo of MY DAUGHTER!"
Me: "Well, if you want to discuss it with 'Christie' and let us know what you two decide we'll go with that."
Mom: "I don't talk to that woman!"

Oh my goodness!
Anybody home? I could use a hug.....:(
{{HUG}} Fishy!!! Whatsa matter?

Just got a call from DH. Apparently the school committe voted last night to do away with his position, so he'll definitely be back to being just a classroom teacher next year. Then DD called him, and on her way to a job interview her car was overheating, and she's 2 1/2 hours from home and 2 1/2 from her apartment.

Oh no! Too much stress right before the trip.

What was DH's position? Does DD have a way to still get to the interview?

DH is chairman of the math department for his junior high. It's a real PIA job, and although it did mean a pay raise, it takes 4 years to get 100% of that raise (we're on 50% now). He also teaches 3 classes as part of his job. Now they've decided to meld the junior high and senior high department head jobs, so 1 person would be supervising both the senior high and its corresponding junior high. he has no desire to do that, so he's not about to apply for it, and even if he did, he'd be starting at Year 1 of the 4 year thing again, so we'd actually be losing money on the deal.

DD got to the school where the interview is - it's the getting home that will be a problem.....

That's exactly what I said to DH.

Soooooooo, tomorrow I'll be job hunting definitely. He's not too crqazy about that idea, but there's no way we can afford to send DS off to college without at least our income from last year....:(

What kind of a job do you think you'll look for?

I don't know - basically all I've done is child care, newspaper writing, and part-time teaching for the past 20 years (!), but I have a degree in math, so there must be something out there for me
How about freelance writing? I know there isn't too much money in that, but it would keep you at home...?

I'm back for a couple minutes...writing a trip report is harder than I thought!

Betty--I'm so sorry to hear about DHs job. Have you considered math tutoring? A friend of ours is high school math teacher and she does private tutoring a couple days a week...she said that the money is pretty good for the amount of time she spends doing it.

He has some (thank God!), but we still have to come up with quite a bit. The government thinks we can afford it.....

Been there  My dad worked a factory job all his life, and it was STILL too much to qualify for aid, other than loans and work study.

I think the math tutoring sounds like a possibility.

Actually that's one of the things on my list. I had worked for the Huntington Learning center here before, which is similar to Sylvan, and that paid well and I basically set my own hours, so I want to go talk to them tomorrow.
