I think dealing w/ debt is such a common problem these days. I got into major debt in college, simply because my parents never really taught us about $$. Freshman year, I got 2 credit cards and you can imagine how quickly and easily I made my way into debt. I've gotten it under control over the years, but it still seems like there's always some kind of debt...now in the form of student loans (which, as I've said I'm allergic to).
That's a tough call. Do you think if you went back to school you'd have time to study? Maybe initially when he first starts back, you should get a part-time job until everyone gets used to the change (Joel being in school all day). Give it a few months, building up some savings and then decide about school? Then you'll be able to better judge how much time you'll be able to devote to studying.
