Please don't tell me we are going to start blaming the guests again??
Why? Most guests are idiots while on vacation and don't think that they have to *gasp* read something. Heaven forbid....

I am so relieved after reading this because I thought after reading the headline that the whole thing would be switched to a no g force version. I still plan on riding the real thing with the g-forces, since it is one of my favorites!

If it was just a rumor before, it's confirmed now:

Epcot Guests to have Choice of Two Mission: SPACE Adventures
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla., May 2, 2006 By the beginning of summer, Epcot Guests will have two options when it comes to riding Mission: Space the original thrill attraction and a new version for those who prefer a milder ride experience.
The new version, which is created by turning off the spinning centrifuge, may be more suited for some Guests, such as those who are prone to motion sickness or have other conditions. Both versions will offer an exciting astronaut training experience through a dramatic story that invites Guests to explore a new world.
"By offering a second adventure, we hope to broaden the appeal of Mission: Space and enable even more Guests to experience the attraction," said Al Weiss, president of Walt Disney World Resort.
Signs posted in the queue area of Mission: Space will outline the difference between the two adventures and provide health advisories appropriate for each experience.
"Providing a choice between two ride options will help to further encourage all Guests to carefully consider posted health advisories when making their decision," added Weiss.
Mission: Space opened in August 2003. Since that time, 11.8 million rides have been given on the attraction, which simulates the launch, approach and landing of a futuristic spacecraft on Mars. The attraction is made up of four separate ride systems, each with its own centrifuge and programmable simulators.

I see nothing bad about this change!:D

It will bring in more people, still have the regular version for the people who love the Gs, and everything should work out perfectly!!:sohappy:

Regardless if people read or not.... I thought we were beyond that now since this topic lead to a lot of heated debates in the previous M:S threads...

Is this a joke or a real announcement? Just where is the link so we can read it?

A 1G version of the ride is lame

They should have a toned down version instead. Say, have the centrifuge spin at 0.5x the normal speed. This way you could still feel some degree of launch and weightlessness, but it won't be as intense as the real ride.

I will admit that I will have to check this out next month. It will probably make me laugh, but that's ok. Maybe reactions to this will help Disney design the next adventure for when/if M:S gets a new ride program in the future.

I think this can be a positive for the ride. I think it's being explored as a way to increase usage and that it's possible at all is a testament to the design.

Think of all the people who avoid looping coasters, or teacup rides etc. Not because they are afraid of mortal injury, but common nausea. I for one will consider riding again. I did ride ONCE to say I did. Felt fine afterward for awhile. Then about 20 minutes later......... But I'm glad I experienced it.

Interestingly, while in the original version we are warned not to look away from the screen, looking away will probably help combat any typical simulator motion sickness in the milder version. The cold air on the forehead certainly can't hurt either.

It certainly does sound that way. Maybe they will add movement that's not currently in the normal profile?

I'm sure they have thought this through to its fullest. They will probably make a separate queue for it too, or use the fastpass queue

Or possibly take away the Single Rider Line

That would suck

EDIT: Of course, they could always send the SRL people in with the FP guests. Do things the same way that I am hearing EE does them.

Considering the current movement pattern, M:S without g-forces sounds like the involuntary swings of a hammock.

That's why I'm thinking they would have to add some sort of movement to it. If that's the case, then it's probably worth trying out by any M:S fan. But if it's the current profile minus the spinning, ouch.

Don't they have this already?

It's called a carousel!

ummm no its not...see the g-force inducing part of the ride is the centrifuge which spins you....this ahs been deactivated, therefore disallowing any sort of spinning so this is actually nothing like a carousel. More like cyberspace mountain
