Mission: SPACE testing a "no G Force" version of the experience

Huh? How is this going to work? The capsule is just going to rock back and forth a bit? This doesn't seem feasible with the current ride system if the centrifuge isn't spinning.

We'll just have to wait and see.

Yes the centrifuge would remain still (so no Gforce), and the rest of the capsule motion would remain as it currently is. This is certainly feasible. Which part do you think is not feasible?

This is welcome news. Hopefully this would lead to less people getting sick.

It would certainly give people the option to ride the no GForce version, which opens up the ride to more people. It is important to note though, that the regular, original version will still be available should the other version be offered.

Oh, sorry, that came out wrong. I understand that the motion of the capsule is feasible...to pulling off the whole "point" of Mission:Space isn't.

This is pretty much just going to be Star Tours with less motion, less excitement, no thrill, and there aren't even any characters to relate yourself to. As of right now...the capsules can only rock back and forth...so it'll rock you back for the launch...the video will play with no forces being applied to you...when you get out of the atmosphere...it'll rock a little forward...and then it'll rock a tad at the asteroids and when you're landing.

I may be wrong, but this ride system doesn't allow it to tilt, shake, or rock side to side...

Thanks for the info. I think testing this is a smart move from Disney, it would help with the current bad reputation as if you have an option you have no reason for complaining, it will stop people being alienated if they are scared/don't like thrill rides and also stops any investment being (potentially) wasted. And also it means possibly shorter lines for me on the spinning centrifuge :) It'd good that they made the ride system so adaptable.

Glad I read that all the way through. My initial reaction was that the lawyers must have talked them into switching the whole ride to no-g!

I like the idea that others will get a chance to experience a tamer version whilst letting everyone else still experience the full on ride.

I can only imagine if some CM forgets to hit the "no G's" switch, and all the grandmas and grandpas in line for the tame version end up with more than they bargained for.

what? No thanks. The fact that the g force matches the video keeps me from getting sick on mission:space. Without that i'd think i'd get horribly sick like i do on star tours and body wars.

He did say only one capsul. And it wouldn't take away from the entire ride for those who want to experience the G's.... I think it is a good idea for those prone to getting ill on this ride.. Now they too will be able to experience M:S... The entire ride would not change, just one riding vehicle...

It would be one ride bay, not capsule. So that would be 10 capsules in the ride bay at a time that would feature the no g option.

The capsule can tilt up and down, and left and right, so the degree of movement is fairly extensive with both pitch and roll.

Or longer lines considering now you'd only have 2 spinning centrifuges rather than the 4 we have now.

Really??? Well then...maybe this could work! I thought that it only pitched back and forth.

Now...just for future knowledge...how much can it "roll?" Can these pods actually spin 360 degrees in both directions?

I think it is a good idea. A mild option should increase the number of people that can ride M:S without incident. Cu-dos for WDI for designing a ride with that much flexibility in the ride system.

Ditto. I get suuuper sick on Star Tours, but feel fine after M:S.

That being said, I think this is a great idea! I just hope that they adapt the warnings to the "no g force" experience - guests are still going to be in tight, closed spaces in the dark and I still think that people with motion sickness could get horribly sick with this "tamer" version. I just hope that people don't think that no Gs automatically = walk in the park...

This COULD create confusion in the queue, and in turn the rider decision making process (as it relates to people's health and the ride).

That said, it's an interesting idea....maybe they'll add unique effects to the "no Gs" version to make it enjoyable.

They cant do 360, its more in the region of 45 degrees
