Missing: Hidden Mickey In Haunted Mansion Dining Table

I heard that one too! But I heard they knew that someone painted it red but repainted it back on b/c they thought it looked cool! Really I have no idea!?!
Those benches aren't taken in and out during busy season, they're still there. They were just moved from near the pet cemetary to in the wheel chair queue. Next time you stand in the line, go through the wheel chair gate (provided you don't try and pass yourself off as a wheel chair guest) and you can see them.

I have never heard that story, but the red eyes do look tacked on and out of place. But also cool.

Thanks Raven. If you ever do get a chance to take a peek under that plate let me know. The rumr was that a family had a sick child who they had brought to the Magic Kingdom and he rode HM over and over, it was his favorite. After the child passed away the family mailed a letter to the Magic Kingdom talking about how the child had loved HM and wanted to be a part of it, so they included a picture of him to out under a plate in the ballroom. I think the picture is taped to the plate so it wont be lost.
This is all i know about that rumor.

Thanks
Erik

I took the CM tour a week and a half ago and asked my tour guides (a trainer and a CM who has worked at HM for ages) about it. The story was that some kids brought a picture of their mother to a Haunted Mansion CM, telling them that she had recently died (I believe of cancer) and that HM was her favorite place in the world. The kids asked the CM if he/she could place the photo somewhere in the attraction, as a tribute to their mother. The photo couldn't be placed visibly onstage, obviously, so the CM placed it under the plate at the head of the table in the ballroom scene.

My tour guides said that the picture did indeed exist, and was indeed there in the ballroom for years. It was a picture of the mother with Donald Duck. During the 2007 revamp, one of my tour guides actually brought it home to keep it safe. Unfortunately, the tour guides said that three months ago, during a routine maintenance check or whatnot, the photo was either stolen or taken out, and they have no idea of its whereabouts now.

Did you have Ginger? She's the best HM tour guide!

Thanks Neverland!!! I knew someone here would have the answer. That is too bad that the picture has gone missing. It is really great that the picture remained there for so long though. I hope it shows up again and earns its rightful place back inside the ride. I think that is a great tribute.

Thanks again

Erik

I work in the Mansion and yes there is a large piece of glass in a big wooden box behind the fireplace. We had to replace it years ago because a guest threw something at one of the windows and shattered it. That's why there is plexiglass between the doom buggies and the ballroom glass now.

Most items in the Mansion are screwed or glued down but the plates are not yet. I have a pic but I don't know how to upload it.

Please notice next time you ride, there are books in the attic with Jack the ripper on the covers. There is also a VERY hidden Jack's head in the attic. Without a flashlight you can't see it.

Is there anything else you would like to know?

The plexiglass between the doom buggies and ballroom glass helps disguise the "secret" of the optical illusion. Because the plexiglass gives off its own glare, any glare created by the ballroom glass is less noticeable. :sohappy:

I knew about the Mickeys in the frame of the portrait over the fireplace before you step into a stretching room. I have one more "nugget" to ask about. We were told a pretty elaborate story about some benches that aren't always sitting outside the HM or just outside the house gates. I've never really remembered to look for it. I was told they aren't always put out. Only during slower seasons. Anywhoo, supposedly there were some black wrought iron benches that a teenage girl sat on waiting for her family to return from riding the HM. She was too cool to hang out with her family or something. So she's sitting on the bench & takes out her bright red nail polish from her purse & occupies herself by carefully dotting red paint on the decorative snakes or serpents or whatever that the bench arms or legs or feet are shaped from. A CM wasn't far & saw her doing this but got distracted before he/she could say anything. The girl's family came out & she moved on leaving behind the red eyes on that bench. The CM forgot to say anything to anyone. The benches were removed within a day or so & sent to Central Shops for repainting/refurbing. The cast there see the red eyes, not knowing this isn't the way the benches should look. They strip them down & repaint, red eyes included. And that's how a guest forever altered the appearance of something in a park.

Any truth or substance in that one???

Anyone want to take some nail polish remover and find out? :drevil:

I was there on 8/9/10 and the plates were in all of their hidden mickey glory. I have seen them not in what I consider to be the right place before. It's just not as charming without that hidden mickey.

WED didn't put it there, thus not making it an official Hidden Mickey. I've heard a fair amount of criticism regarding this Hidden Mickey, so perhaps its better the HM is no longer there. Now guests can enjoy the rest of the scene instead of looking for it.

does anyone know the criticism behind this and why WDI doesn't want the plates arranged in a hidden mickey? seems everyone wants it, so why not keep it..? I also want to say this is the most interesting thread I've read on WDWM in a long time

BTW, I am a CM. How do I go about scheduling one of these backstage tours?

Everyone else is right, it's a CM-created hidden Mickey, and therefore not an official one. Most of the stuff in the ballroom isn't bolted down, so if the CMs wanted to, they could make multiple hidden Mickeys, or move the props and furniture around (and then get fired for it...).

Why don't they either make it an official HM or bolt down the plates in the correct positions?

Whish is why I don't understand the other statement of how the pane of glass broke when there is plexiglass on the railing between the two. :veryconfu

Go onto the hub, click the 3rd yellow button on the right (Developement Connection), under WDW Learning Information click "Disney University" then "upcoming events." Look for Behind the Scenes Tour: The Haunted Mansion in black writting. It's not always available but currently there is one scheduled for 9/17.

Yes, how does someone that isn't a CM arrange to take a tour of the Haunted Mansion? I'd give my left thumb to take that tour!

You can get a small taste of it on the Keys tour but nothing real indepth like the CMs get. Out tours start at 7AM way before the park opens so the attraction isn't up and running yet.
