What is up with these people!?! Especially while they are on vacation in WDW.
I can't believe how many perverted stories I have been hearing about that take place in WDW. This is horrible!! :(

Just disturbing... :brick:

OT: I hate those Bob Dance commercials...

I feel your pain, I am ready to through something at the TV every time I see a Bob Dance commercial, which is ridiculously often. The only thing worse is Scratch and Dent, that makes me wish I were deaf.

They're facing more scrutiny due to the deviation of their precedent of siding with the guest. Brittney went public, this hit the press, and Disney is being scrutinized.

Now because she spoke up does this mean she'll lose her job??

So because this man did something, his friends and family are automatically plotting to do it as well?

But if this man at age 60 would think it is okay to do this who knows how many of his friends and family may think it is okay. Not trying to accuse any of them for anything just saying. A slap on the wrist was not enough for this guy.

That is not what I'm saying at all

So if a personal assault is taking place with the character and the handler is not taking action for whatever reason, can't the costumed cm walk away?

I can understand the Disney policy in relation to "integrity" but seems like the CM could make a personal judgment call if they feel the situation warrants and just exit the area and head backstage to report it.

If they get reprimanded for it later, then shame on Disney management! In the real world, there comes a point where employee safety overrides any "show" factor.

There are times when the costumed CM might not have quick or easy access to a backstage area. At the MG area at AK where Pooh etc come out it seems there could be some distance to cover. Maybe there needs to be more handlers etc to make sure the CM's are safe.

As far as Im concerned 1 episode is 1 too many. All of these "nuts" should never be allowed back again and have some serious jail time and $ loss.

May I just say from myself that I appreciate all that you CM's do whether you are costumed or not. All of you have made my trips to WDW and DL very enjoyable indeed.

I think a couple days in jail would deter the average person from trying something like this again.

My view on this is that the guy did something rude and abusive, but it doesn't rise to the level of sexual assault. If he has any sense, he'll count his blessings that he didn't get the maximum (a year in jail and $1,000 fine) and keep his hands to himself from now on.

Agreed! No question about it, the guy was definitely being sleazy. But anything above what he received as punishment would be, in my opinion, too harsh. If for no other reason, it diminishes from the severity of other more serious crimes involving people who are truly dangerous and do need to be locked up. This sounded to me like a guy who lost all good common sense while on vacation. Not defending his actions in any way shape or form, and I do believe he deserved to be punished. But some of the reactions here actually scare me more than the crime that's been reported. I mean, seriously... castration?? Really?? It's times like this I'm glad we have civilized laws that prevent lynch mobs from forming.

Disney should be smart enough to avoid the public relations nightmare that would be her termination due to this. If she hasn't been fired over this yet, she won't be fired over this.

Not sure what the law is in Florida, but I know that in California an employer cannot fire (or reliate in any way against) an employee who makes a claim of harassment or discrimination. It sounds like this was "battery" so it may work differently because of that as well. I don't know. Also, in some states, the employee would have had the right to file a harassment claim against their employer if the employer didn't make reasonable efforts to stop the offending behavior. From what I've read about this case, it doesn't sound as though Disney did anything to try and stop the guy. If this is something that "happens all the time" (as many posters in this thread have claimed), then a group of Disney CMs could possibly put together a class action suit against Disney for not taking precautions to prevent this sort of thing... and again, in some states they would definitely have a case. But again, I'm not sure how it is in Florida.
