Mine Ride Construction Update

One of the things we need to look out for is when they start removing the scaffolding. Remember that this is "toothpick" scaffolding. To remove it they need to remove the decking and railings from the top level, cut off the "toothpicks" that hold it up, patch the holes and paint them to blend in with the rest of the rockwork. Once this is done on the top level, they can move down to the next level and repeat. The result is that it takes a lot longer for this to come down then normal scaffolding, so it could take a couple weeks to remove it all.

I was there Wednesday on a Youth Education Series class. The CM leading the class told me about connections he had with a land-level manager (but not one directly involved in Fantasyland, so how much he would know is not clear to me). The CM expressed agreement with early Feb as a target date, but his tone of voice carried uncertainty as to whether they would make it.

Looks like they put the restraints in @danlb_2000...another small step forward! (borrowed photo from OTPN-thanks @orky8 for the link :) )

Oh, and either Wednesday or Friday I saw a few (fake, I think) plants on the mine train mountain/hill. I don't remember seeing any in pictures before. I didn't take pictures, sorry.

Well to be fair each "component" of FLE was about 2.5 years (same as Diagon's 2.5 years). It just happened to have two overlapping components as they course corrected midway through construction.

Moral of the story let's hope they never role out a singular land in phases again, multiple lands like in HKDL expansion are a'ok and didn't seem to get the same flack.

to be fair.. Transformers is mostly just a bunch of screens with occasional set pieces.. I don't find it nearly as deep as Spiderman.. not saying it wasn't fast, but the simplicity of setting up projections compared to 3 dimensional theming is worlds different..
Transformers on the other hand... that was just stupid fast, but that's more of an exception.

Disney construction could definitely pick up the pace, but I don't think they are as glacially as they get the rep for.

Oh I agree, but I find some concessions need to be made to get the point across, which is namely SDMT is not as slow to be built as everyone seems to think it is. No matter how SDMT stacks up, I agree it's technically a more elaborate build than Transformers.

Looks like the shroud over the swing bearing is off in this picture. Anyone else noticed any pictures where this was visible before? Assuming it is for adjusting amount of swing. Hopefully if they have adjustments on the bearings to limit the swinging affect they are heavy duty or maintance will be horrendous.

The covers have been off in all the ride testing videos I have seen.

Does anyone remember roughly how long it was from the time that they put on the artificial trees and grass on top of Little Mermaid and Be Our Guest untill it opened full time? I know that it was one of the last things to go on, that stuff has a finite life span and they would like to replace it as few times as possible. I'm going in May and I'm cautiously optomistic that the mine train will be open. I'm waiting to see the grass go up on the mountian to guage when it will be completed.

I found this post from September 10th, 2012 saying that the Little Mermaid grass work was just about done:
