Millionaire Replacement??

I was there during the ESPN Weekend editions, and the hosts always talked about how that was kind of a trial, and that they may be doing other themed Millionaires.

Last year, at Super Soap Weekend, they had themed millionaire shows. Whoever got into the hotseat got to be there with a star. Looked kinda neat, but I didn't do it because I was both a cast member and not interested.

I wouldn't mind seeing something replace millionaire. The television version's lost a lot of popularity and isn't even on anymore except for specials like Super Millionaire. I've never been to the Disney Studios millionaire show. Even before I was a cast member I had no interest in it. Then I did the college program and didn't see the point in wasting my time since I couldn't participate. Last fall I was a Disney Store cast member and couldn't participate. I've had a few in between trips as a non cast member, but still have no interest.

I would much rather see a new d or e - ticket attraction. I thought I'd read that Roger Rabbits Car Toon Spin was replacing it. That sounds neat and I'd like to see that. If not Roger Rabbit, then I'd still like to see something new use that space, as well as the other unused sound stage buildings.

Just please no more stunt shows, power rangers or anything else. Two stunt shows are more than enough. I liked the power rangers back in 1993 and early 1994. Then I hit middle school and stopped watching them. Then I didn't realize they still existed until the disney store started selling power ranger toys.

Thats not true!!!! It is still on as a cindicated(sp?) version! In Florida it is on around 7:00

Will Kimberly be there?

Sorry, I couldn't help myself. With the age spread of my kids, I'm afraid I've seen all iterations of the show, not to mention theatrical releases. While the show will never win any awards, (clear your mind now), the thought of a martial arts show with silly monsters and zords could be entertaining for the younger folks. I have to admit that I enjoy the bizarre parade of "monsters" (then again I still like the Godzilla movies).

With that said, I see no immediate need to replace Millionaire as audiences are still OK and there are plenty of vacant sites for attractions to be added. I wish Disney would wait to close something until a replacement has been identified. Between MGM and Epcot Futurworld, I continue to be bothered by the vacancies...almost expect to see wood boards covering the windows and a no occupancy sign on the door... :(

Disney Closings

The last thread brings up a good point! Why does Disney close something like "Doug" (even though I hated that show) and just leave the building unoccupied? They could have left superstar television there, just change the scenes once in awhile and keep it open until they have something to put there. It makes no sense to me to leave it empty!!!! What is the reasoning behind that? Please occupy all the unoccupied venues first before talking about taking something else out. They need all the venues they can get at MGM. And no more stunt shows please! :brick:

I stand corrected. :)

Sorry, I just didn't realize it was still on. I don't watch a whole lot of tv and I made an assumption based on the fact that I haven't seen a single preview for the show in like two years.

I want them to shoot a DIsney Channel show there... Something like Thats So Raven... That would get kids to MGM (if the shows a hit)..

Darn. I got my hopes up. Maybe a larger scale ride/show will find it's way to that soundstage in the future.

I wonder if the back of the soundstages could be expanded out if the CM parking/costuming is relocated.

Well I'm pretty sure that there would be alot of room there if they used the old Backstage Pass area, they could build a pretty decent size ride/show. I do not know this for a fact, but I think that the Armageddon show would fit perfectly in this area.

I'm sure that the people in the know on these boards could give you a much better idea of what kind of room they have over there. But my personal wish would be to close down Millionare and put the Armageddon show there.

<<quote snipped>>

Sometimes you have to realize that it's not always the show itselfs' fault for closing, or money, or popularity. Sometimes it's the facility that the show is in. Sometimes, these facilities need a lot of work done to them to keep them up to code/standards, good working order. Sometimes it's cheaper, and easier to close a show than to fix all the problems with it. Now, I'm not saying this is what happend to the ABC theater...but it might what happened to other venue/s in parks.

Also, the two soundstages that Millionaire is in wouldn't really house a good dark ride to well. When you walk around inside, there isn't really that much room for a ride. Sure, it's tall, but not that much real USEABLE space. The most space you'd end up with is somethine along the size of Pooh , or shorter. I REALLY don't think the show is going anywhere anytime soon. And if it does, nothing is going to immediately replace it.

Millionaire

I don't see them taking out Millionaire. Like a lot of the posts said, it's extremely popular (especially during the recent ESPN: The Weekend).

Part of that might be the allure of trying to win the cruise. One show I was in, a guy got to the million point question and it was very tense even being in the audience. Felt like actually being at the show!

The show is still in syndication with Meridith Viera, and while she's no Regis... it's still the classic show.

It seems like the attraction has good replay value (for people like me who have been to it a million times trying to win the cruise -- best I've done is 125,000), and the first-timers love it because it's an exact replica of the TV show and is really a neat experience for people who watched the show during its hey day.

And when it's all said and done, people can't resist a dry and air conditioned show during the hot and wet Central Florida summers!

It does seem weird that Disney doesn't have one of their shows being taped at the Studios. I would assume it would be because they aren't "shot before a live audience" or the actors live in LA and don't want to relocate to FL. They should do this though as it would be a unique and popular experience.

Yeah.. I was going to say do something like shoot That's So Raven there (Or maybe Phil of the Future or something)

But, I figured that the actors are probably all happy where they are... So, I think that they should come up with a new show, with actors from Florida...

power rangers/kingdom hearts

in late february power ranger prototypes were done and test photos taken, I heard at that time they would be doing meet and greets at studios begining in april/may ...I heard they never made it because the prototypes were too expensive, especially since the would have to be changed as the power rangers changed... I also heard they we're once considered as a part of the new motor stunt show, but with only cameo appearances, however that idea passed quickly.
I had also heard that there were plans to give them their own mini-show...this could be that

as for kingdom hearts
an entertainment costuming manager told me the costumes were currently being developed, Im not sure which ones however

as for the ABC theatre (former superstar and doug live) it is currently used for cast chorus (Encore) shows. and the stage is used as a breakroom for some of the hat characters as well as the monsters, inc group

the reason they dont shoot their own shows in the studios is because the soundstages are far too expensive for the average tv series to rent

-yes I know they are both disney, but like most large corporations disney is run like many small companies, and they do not discount their soundstage rates, even for disney tv-- oh and BTW universal's soundstages are dirt cheap and always full, unlike disney's

Greetings from the West Coast...

Just to clear up some points about the Cali version of Millionaire at DCA, it wasn't closed because it wasn't popular, it was just that it was really only being used by AP holders going multiple times and wasn't pulling in any new people or day visitors. And real estate at DL, especially DCA, is at an absolute premium. The closure of Millionare now makes up a row of 3 conjoined buildings (2 attractions and a restaurant) that have gone dark. There is major speculation out here that the three buildings will be replaced with one major E ticket, which DCA sorely needs.

After reading some of the post in this thread stating Millionaire-The Show was dead, here's an article on it:

'Switch The Question' Added as New Lifeline on 'Who Wants To Be A Millionaire'
August 24, 2004: 1:46 p.m. EST

NEW YORK (PRNewswire) - NEW YORK, Aug. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire" with Meredith Vieira continues to break new ground as it enters its third year of syndication on September 13, 2004. The show that experienced ratings growth across demographics and time periods during the 2003-2004 season gives viewers even more reason to watch. "Millionaire" is adding a new fourth lifeline called "Switch the Question." The lifeline will be available to contestants who have successfully answered the 10th question. After reaching this threshold, if a contestant receives a question and they don't know the answer, they can use the new "Switch The Question" lifeline one time and have the question replaced by a randomly selected question at the same dollar value. "We added an extra lifeline to give contestants further incentive to go for the higher dollar values on the show, ensuring more dramatic, high-stakes moments in the game," says Executive Producer, Michael Davies.

In addition, "Millionaire" is making TV history by becoming the first syndicated show where viewers can interact with the show during production tapings. Buena Vista Television (BVT), and America Online, Inc., the world's leading interactive services company, are partnering on a groundbreaking initiative that will allow the tens of millions of AOL(R) members, AOL(R) Instant Messenger(TM) (AIM(R)) users and fans of "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire" to participate in the show's "Ask The Audience" polling. Available now, those who add the "MillionaireIM" screen name to their Buddy List(R) feature will be ready to receive actual game questions via instant message (IM) and give their answer when any contestant selects the "Ask The Audience" lifeline during the taping of a show. Contestants will see the responses of both the studio audience as well as those participating via IM.

To participate, AOL members and AIM users need only to add "MillionaireIM" to their Buddy Lists. Visitors to http://www.millionairetv.com/ who are not already AOL members or AIM users will receive instruction on how to participate by downloading AIM for free. Registration is currently open, as of August 16th. "Millionaire's" third season will tape from September 1, 2004 through January 16, 2005, during which time registered "Millionaire Buddies" will receive multiple-choice questions via AIM(R).

"The lifeline changes we've introduced for contestants in season three have been designed to further engage viewers and enhance their experience," said Janice Marinelli, President of Buena Vista Television. "Through this new partnership with America Online we are creating a new facet that will provide contestants access to the combined knowledge of tens of millions of online users, and the additional lifeline will help more players become 'Millionaire' success stories."

Entering Season Three: Feeling Like A Million

"Who Wants To Be A Millionaire" with Meredith Vieira continued its extraordinary run in syndication for a second consecutive season, winning both critical acclaim and a ringing endorsement from national audiences. When it launched, "Millionaire" rapidly assumed the position of highest-rated new game/reality strip of the 2002-2003 season, and the show's success only grew during the 2003-2004 season. The continuing growth trend led MediaWeek's Marc Berman to write, "Growth from both the lead-in and year-ago time period averages makes Buena Vista's 'Who Wants To Be A Millionaire' one of the most underrated hits in syndication." "Millionaire" also won the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Directing in a Game/Audience Participation Show, while also receiving 2004 Daytime Emmy Award nominations for Best Game/Audience Participation Show and Outstanding Game Show host.

* "Millionaire" tops the list of syndicated shows that experienced

growth from May 2003 to May 2004 with 31% national growth (1.3 to 1.7)

in the key W25-54 demographic. "Millionaire" also posted 16% gains in

households and 18% growth in the key W18-49 demographic. May 2004

also featured "Millionaire" among the weekly list of Top 10 nationally

rated syndicated strips in households.

* Also in May 2004, "Millionaire" continued to show time period growth

locally, with a 25% increase (2.0 to 2.5) in 'Daytime' viewership and

an 8% increase in 'Early Fringe' (2.6 to 2.8), while 'Access'

maintained a strong 4.7. This is in addition to the impressive time

period gains posted during the 2004 February sweep which saw

"Millionaire" deliver more growth than ALL returning first-run

syndicated strips.

'Life-Changing' Money on "Millionaire"

"Millionaire's" ratings success is due not only to the dramatic and engaging game format, but also to the life changing money it continues to award its contestants. "Millionaire" maintains the most aggressive prizing structure and budget on television. On any given day, contestants have the opportunity to correctly answer 15 questions and walk away with $1 million dollars. Since debuting in syndication, two extraordinary contestants have walked away with the top prize and more than $21 million dollars has been awarded.

Now with the addition of a fourth lifeline, "Switch The Question," contestants will have even more opportunity to walk away with the big bucks. In conjunction with the added lifeline, the mid-level prize money categories have been slightly modified for season three, with cash now being awarded past the $16,000 question in the following increments -- $25,000*, $50,000*, $100,000*, $250,000, $500,000 and $1 million. (*indicates new amounts). "These minor adjustments were made to compensate for the increased winning potential that comes with the addition of a fourth lifeline," added Executive Producer, Michael Davies.

Meredith Vieira and the "Millionaire" Team

Meredith Vieira, host of the half-hour program, is fresh off of her 2004 Daytime Emmy nomination. A critically-acclaimed broadcaster and moderator of ABC's "The View," Vieira has brought her unique style to the game show. TV Guide has dubbed her "the thinking person's game-show host," and raved "Vieira has made the show her own, with daily doses of intelligence, wit and that million-dollar smile. "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire" is produced by the same Emmy Award-winning team, Valleycrest Productions, which brought the original "Millionaire" to ABC in 1999. Michael Davies, Paul Smith and Leigh Hampton are executive producers; Vincent Rubino is co-executive producer.

You won't see anything there for at least 3-5 years. Where do you think that Matt's getting the money to fix Disneyland Park from?
