Mickey's not so scary saturated Halloween party

I worked as a ticket agent at Ohare for years. Like I could control flights cancelled because we had a blizzard conditions. We'd rebook them, refund, but some wanted, money, a car rental, food, people expected a lot and wanted to hit the jack-pot because the weather didn't co-operate all the while abusing the front line staff.

My brother works for United (formerly Continental) in customer service & says the same thing ... I often ask him what he would consider a reasonable complaint, given what he deals with on a daily basis.

It's great that Disney offers the refund if u ask before you leave, I would have never guessed they would do it unless somebody said they experienced it.

I can't imagine that many guest are that clueless or unaware that fireworks could be cancelled or parades cancelled, delayed because of storms when they purchase special tickets. It is a gamble.

The parade and fireworks are the main reason that many buy tickets, so of course they are going to refund your ticket if you do not get to experience them. I've never had a problem getting my money back and would never pay for a party that didn't offer them. Disney can't control the weather, but they do control the guest experience and that is why they refund the tickets. If they kept money on rained out nights they would loose future sales and they don't want to do that, especially since the party caters to repeat and locals.

You have to be kidding. You mean we could have gotten our money back. It rained the entire night except for about 30 minutes when we went. They cancelled the first parade and all of the Villian shows. The parade was miserable because everyone who would have watched the first parade waited and watched the one and only parade. They didn't even have the headless horseman. We were packed like sardines. Some places were 10 people deep.

Of course they'd avoid a lot of these problems if they didn't try to make everything a separate ticketed event and give all guests their money's worth, but oh well....that's not what Disney's for these days.

I wish. At DLR.. people line up for refunds over simple attractions being down! Fireworks or F!.. and they are lining up fuming.. and that's normal day admissions.

where were you watching from?
We were across from Sleepy Hollow by the Christmas store.
We had lined up for the first parade even though it was raining fairly hard because the cm's kept telling us that they were going to have the parade. We stood in the rain, in a really good spot for around 45 minutes, then the announcement came over the intercom saying there would not be any parades that night. Then about an hour later, they announced the parade would start at 10. We were way down at the fire station when they made the announcement, so we had to make our way back toward Frontierland where we wanted to watch the parade. By the time we got across the bridge, it was obvious there wouldn't be any good places to stand. We were able to get close enough to take pictures. We were disappointed, but we knew these things happen, but what made us upset, was that two cm's told us they were going to have the villians show, so we stood in front of the stage, in the off and on rain for another 30 minutes. Then, even when some guys came out and started removing the cables to the amps these same two cm's kept telling everyone they would perform. Someone on the front asked one of the guys removing the cables, and he said they were not going to perform. Because of those two cm's, people still kept standing there even after the guy said they were not going to perform. We left, but we were not happy campers. We still didn't let this ruin our night.

Really? I first started taking my kids 16 or 17 years ago and I wrestled with the $15 charge. No way would I fork out that kind of today admission prices for fireworks and a parade when we could see so many versions of fireworks and parades at most of the parks without paying more. We went for our kids to have a dress up night, no-line attractions and the massive amount of treats they received, it was so much fun for them to be the only ones in their boat at the Pirates and the tears my 4 year old had when the CM Pirate tried to pirate her bag of goodies. We still laugh. We just never zeroed in on one particular offering as dealbreaker anywhere at Disney. We went for the total experience. Most of all though I don't want to be flagged as FC (frequent complainer.)

I was told this evening management is already working on a foul weather plan for the future. It is possible the guests would be happier with the party being canceled with the threat of rain or other future parties absorbing all these guests from the rained out party. There is no way Disney protocol is going to continue to pay CM's for hours inside the park for the "party", CM's outside the park, pass out candy, re-set the park, run transportation for hours and return all the guests admission money as standard policy for the future. They are better off canceling it financially. It will be interesting to see what management does next year if it forecasted to pour during a party.

They only refund tickets to those who request it at city hall. They have been doing it this way since day 1 so i doubt they will change or better yet cancel the party in advance because of a chance of rain. Weather doesn't typically play a role in most party nights anyway so I don't see it becoming a major problem. Should a party be canceled in advance they now have to refund everyone's money over just a small percentage who request it at city hall.

God bless the "Ignore" button.
You can't get a refund on a botched meal after it's eaten.
You have to go to Guest Relations on your way out, not after you've left.

this was not our first MNSSHP ... we've been at least 10 times, dating back to 2002. we've had a mixed bag of weather over the years (always the first week of October), but I don't ever remember a storm on a party night like the one on Thursday night. For a period of time, it wasn't safe for anyone to be outside with the lightning as intense as it was. The Tomorrowland Speedway cast members were taking shelter in Cosmic Ray's. There were a few guests taking shelter at umbrella tables outside Cosmic Ray's, but other than that, no one was out and about during the strongest part of the storm.

Personally, I'd be disappointed if the policy became a cancellation at the threat of rain. How many times have we gone thinking it might rain and it was a beautiful night or vice versa. We didn't buy our tickets until 3:00pm Thursday afternoon, and it was a sunny afternoon. There were the usual clouds building off in the distance, so we brought our ponchos with us. I had no reason to think 4 inches of rain would fall between 6-9pm that night. In fact, the weather forecasts at noon said there was a less chance of rain Thursday afternoon because the upper levels of the atmosphere were drier. We kept checking the radar & it would look like it should be over any time and it just kept storming.

It's never a bad idea to reassess the current policies to see if they should be changed or not. I was very surprised to be offered a refund, since we were given a card stating the inclement weather compensation options and a refund was not one of them.

they were processing refunds for resort guests at the resorts & parks guest services windows on Friday. the line was so long at City Hall they wanted to get the people who were not resort guests taken care of on Thursday night.

Yeah, I agree. We did rain too a few times, not uncommon for fall, less of it for the Christmas Party.

But as is commented here, when more and more guests are starting to work the system for refunds whenever a parade doesn't come off, or Fantasmic is canceled, an attraction goes down, yeah they are going to have to re-evaluate. Disney walked away from Grad Nights, many nights of double dipping revenue and walked away from it. Look what they did to good forever park hopper passes when guests worked that system. Disney fixed it, it wasn't most of us who abused it however we all suffered the consequences of a few. It might just take walking away from rainy nights and canceling parties at the last moment, if rain causes them to loose money on those evenings, cut their losses and send the CMs home.

Thursday was a small number of guests at City Hall and outside guest relations?

I agree with CeciliaKY. I have been to many MNSSHP's and even attended during a tropical storm and it wasn't as bad as the storm on Thursday night. I went through 3 hurricanes there. It was not safe to be outside. It wasn't one of those put on your poncho and suck it up kinda night. It was relentless rain. I think we got 5 pieces of candy that night. I know you can't control the weather but I was just really disappointed. I didn't want a refund. I would have liked the option to be able to attend the next night. Now, we will have to wait til next year to enjoy it.

Well just returning from an 8 day trip to the world and saved the best for last Mickey's not so scary Halloween party. We were there celebrating my twin sons 12th birthday and really looking forward to the party all week. Upon arrival it started to rain and keeping a positive attitude and hoping Disney would push on with the show. We lined up on main st. for the parade and after waiting almost an hour in the rain they cancel it. My sons now in disappointment I tried making the best of it and hoping to see the fireworks and castle show but all events were cancelled. I've been reading rumors of Disney refunding the price of party admission on Facebook. I called today and Disney rep said she's heard of this issue and rudely said she couldn't control weather and that was that has anyone else had any luck with this issue?[/q

My Family and I were there Thursday October 4. We Got a full refund, Of course we had to wait in a long line to get it. The cast members were very pleasant, they saw my daughter as well as other children were upset and offered loads of candy to everyone. It wasn't the experience we thought we would have, but we did receive pleasant service from cast members. My opinion is, they were working as fast as people would allow them to work, and they did a great job especially when some let the weather get the best of them. I'm sorry your boys were disappointed, hopefully the weather cooperates better for us next time! Take care!

Well once again Disney makes things right. Just when I was thinking Disney cares only about income, I got an email and after a brief phone call to customer relations who were very compassionate about the situation and were sorry about the unpleasant experience at mnsshp Disney turned the Halloween party tickets into 1 day magic kingdom passes. It's really nice to talk to guest relation cast members that have family and realize all the hard work some parents put into a vacation so there children can have a great memory of Disney. I would like to thank all at wdw that did make my boys birthday in Disney special and for understanding the circumstances and helped me out

first of all they tell you when you purchase the tickets not responsible for weather and no refunds given rain or shine.so from the start you purchase the tickets at your own risk early to get a better price.so you should not expect a refund because of rain as you were pre warned.i have no problem with this policy since i just purchased our mvmcp tickets for our dec. trip.
