I hope they start tearing it down the second 100 Years is over. The only thing the hat has going for it is the lighting package they have on it at night, that is pretty cool. But I pray for the day that I can look down Hollywood Blvd and see the Chinese Theater. :(

I have to agree with ya...I haven't seen the finished product yet but what I saw of that monstrosity last year made me vomit...did they have to put the darn thing in front of the theater like that?...sheeeeesh.

Mickey's Hat is pretty cool!

We first saw the hat when it was started under construction last year and then saw the completed hat back in December of 2001. I get goosebumps when I see it....I just can't explain it! It's like a presence that welcomes you! Forget about the Chinese Theater! I'd rather look at Mickey's hat! :king:

I think walking down Hollywood Blyd looking at the Chinese Theater was getting old. The building looked as if it were becoming run down. It was about time for a change of scenery, i mean you can go see the real Chinese Theater but the other three park symbols will never get old since there is not any thing else exactly like them.

The hat gives MGM that "magic" touch...especially at night....

AND...theywon't tear it down after the 100 years celebration.....it's firmy rooted and spent a lot to put there, and seems like it's the new centerpiece of the park.

If they leave the hat I just hope they do not put a sign that says MGM.Like the Spaceship Earth with the Millenium sign, they put EPCOT on SE like we do not know it is EPCOT.

Hiya Fievel...

I'm looking forward to seeing the hat at night....maybe it will change my opinion....I'm not against the hat itself, actually it looks pretty cool, but I'm not crazy about it's location, particularly cuz it's only a pin kiosk...I think it would have looked awesome just outside the gates in that open area where you board the tram or catch the bus...

...but I agree with you on it's permanency. It ain't goin' nowhere.

The only reason that I don't like the hat is because it DESTROYED the LARGEST HIDDEN MICKEY!!!

I do admit that I enjoy seeing the hat more than I enjoyed looking at the rundown looking Chinese Theater. (and yes, the lighting at night is AWESOME...looks great from the Tower of Terror :) )

or right! The hat gives the park a bigger Disney feel, before it was represented by the Earful Tower, which is very unnoticeable in the park. Now there is a big centerpiece to represent the Disney Studios and it makes it much easier to replace the Chinese THeatre in the future. But I don't care for the EPCOT sign. SE was plenty a big enough symbol, and very noticeable, like the tree of life and Cindy's Castle.

I have to agree with you...they definitely needed a new park icon...good concept with the earful tower...just bad location. (and to tell you the truth...not "cheerful" enough)

You should probably expect the hat to stay. Everything that I have heard/read/seen, in conjunction with the problems at MGM, lead me to believe that the Great Movie Ride will be going away soon. I have heard many times that the Disney-MGM agreement for use of the MGM characters is not going to be renewed, which wil eliminate the ride. What else would go in? Maybe Disney would build the facade of the El Capitain from Hollywood, since they have recently refurbished this landmark as use it for their premiers.

The GMR was always a marginal eye-catcher, compared to the other parks. The hat does catch your attention, whether you like it or not! However, with the hat, and age/licensing of the GMR, I expect that the hat will stay (too much money invested), and the GMR will become something else in the next few years. Let's hope it's something good!

Hat is temporay. Made up of a lightweight plastic (from what I was told, correct me if I'm wrong on that). The hat will go bye-bye as soon as there is a new attraction in the Chinese Theater. I thought there would be more to the hat than just a lot of pin stations and interactive kiosks. I was hoping for a show or something. Big waste of space and $$$ in my eyes. The hat is kewl looking, don't get me wrong, but I don't like walking down Main Street to a birthday cake, and walking down Hollywood Ave towards a big hat is just as special as seeing that iconic building with the dragons. (Hmmm.. dragons? Maybe they should move the Chinese Theater to Beastly Kingdom)

OK.. I voted yes I like the hat, just as an FYI, but I still don't think it should be permenant.
