Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway confirmed

An extra $100m could have completely redid GMR and built MMRR elsewhere. Pennies compared to what they’ll spend to add yet another E-ticket when they inevitably determine the park needs more.
ARE YOU KIDDING ME!

They will be kicking themselves for not forking over the extra 100 million we Galaxy's Edge opens. They could have had everything they will have now plus a refurbed and refreshed, people-eating, GMR to promote.

This aggressive, short-sightedness is going to cost them so much more later, but I guess Iger thinks that's the next guy's problem.

Perhaps they redid GMR because it was kind of a boring ride. Even when it opened. I’ve never been a fan and I would consider this attraction much more appealing. GMR has its fans, but I don’t think it’s enough to attract people to the park itself. Issues have to do with the general ips connected to the ride more than anhrning, which I’m sure is part of why it was replaced.

Not really. Take a look in the GMR thread for why it happened.

crowd control, yes...
but maybe not the way you mean it
;)

hmmm... you should prob get a bonus for that - anything else?

Never would have guessed but Disney often has done similar debuts of lands and attractions. The entire situation now seems manageable. Still hoping for 'before hours' tickets. I think it could become something.

You won’t get much argument against the idea that 2017 GMR was lame. It would have needed SERIOUS work. However, the idea of going into movies still works (see Universal) and slow-moving rides still work. They’re still building slow-moving rides. My point is that a short-sighted decision in 2017 to save perhaps $100 million (to fix GMR and build MMRR in Animation Courtyard) will end up costing far more to add more content elsewhere in the park in the 2020s. Their inefficiency with money is staggering. Don’t even get me started on their inability to update three ancient shows in the park when no one was visiting DHS in 2016 and 2017.

I know the folks in charge have degrees from great schools but I question their intellect. Maybe Mom paid a coach to pretend they were star rowers on the crew team?

On the latest episode of our Armchair Imagineering podcast we were tasked with a $1.575 billion budget to better spend Disney's money ($1.5 from Next Gen and $75 mil from Frozen Ever After). Amongst my expenditures was $75 million in additional cost to put MaMRR on the VotLM footprint and $75 mil to update Great Movie Ride.

Two questions.

1. How did you come up with the figures?

2. Are you allowed to tell us what the podcast is called? If not, if I literally search “WDW Armchair Imagineering podcasts” will it come up?

The numbers were arbitrary, I'm sure we were too high on some and too low on others. It was less an exercise in predicting the cost of things and more an exercise in saying that the current Disney leadership hasn't done anywhere near as good a job as the could have in the parks.

The show is called "Marty Called" - mods feel free to delete if that's inappropriate.

Can't express how frustrating it is that they chose to ax Great Movie Ride and forego its capacity when the option was on the table to add capacity to Hollywood Studios. It's almost like they're determined to make Studios stay the red headed step child of WDW.

The rumor that Runaway Railway will be put in other parks makes that decision even more disappointing. The marquee attraction in the center of Hollywood Studios won't even be something unique to WDW. Come to think of it, with Galaxy's Edge in Disneyland and eventually Walt Disney Studios Park, Tower of Terror and Rocking Roller Coaster in Walt Disney Studios Park, two rides in Toy Story Land will be the only thing unique to Hollywood Studios. Sad, considering it used to be such a unique theme park experience.

Perhaps I'm strange but my enjoyment of any attraction has never been enhanced by the thought "This is even better because it's not in other Disney parks". I'm not sure how that would make any logical sense really, unless I was travelling to those parks also specifically to see unique attractions. It's like I don't enjoy my HD television any more or less based on how many other people have the same model, it doesn't effect me?

This is it, in a nutshell. If you don’t ever have plans to visit and resort other than WDW, then of course clones are no big deal. Many people travel to the other Disney resorts too, and it makes sense that these people would want to see unique attractions (for the most part) at all of them. I don’t see what’s so bad about holding that opinion.
